He is right, it did hit his leg before the arm. So I don't know how they want this to be assessed.

      Delete
    3. It's a good question Victor. I would maybe think that the player took a risk and made himself unnaturally bigger anyway, so maybe it is still punishable??

      Delete
    4. I think, with the hand over the shoulder a deflection by the same player is not relevant. Only a deliberate play by himself would be a reason to not punish the handball.

  5. Your thoughts, MACRON will present new referee equipment before UEFA EURO 2020? or it will be used current versions?

By officiating Juventus - Milan, Maresca gets an "indirect" confirmation that he will be the new FIFA referee replacing Rocchi on the list. This match was very controversial on last season with a very poor performance by Fabbri.

For Massa, this season should have been the confirmation in Champions League, but unluckily he didn't manage that due to poor performances in his domestic games. To be honest at moment it is very difficult if not impossible to think that he should be the Italian referee in Qatar for WC 2022...

About the NO FIFA referees, so far a very good season for La Penna, while Giua is experienced some problems in my opinion also because he doesn't have a so big experience and relatively young age (promoted in serie A after only two seasons in serie B).

    ReplyDelete
  7. And there was me thinking that Andrew Dallas had resigned as a FIFA official due to work commitments?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Andrew Dallas is not the first case of referee who stops FIFA career continuing only domestically. It seems that the UEFA career at high level is very, very demanding. There should be an abysmal difference, based on many news and situations I read on the blog here by years.

    2. Sorry what I meant was that I'm surprised to see him back as a fourth official with Kevin Clancy tonight.

  8. OT, LotG question: Ball goes out after a touch of a Red player and referee signals throw-in for Blue. But when the game continues after several minutes of injury break, Red takes the throw-in. The referee doesn't notice the mistake and play continues. Red scores immediately from the throw-in. After complaints, the referees remembers that it should have been a throw-in for Blue.
What is the decision and why?
Would it be a different decision,
    - if Red only scores after 30 seconds possession?
    - if Blue gains possession and scores (without any stop of play)?

  12. Wrong disallowed goal by the Danish team by Astana-AZ. No consequences for the result of the game though

    ReplyDelete
  13. Penalty by Radu Marian Petrescu clear punishable handball but it looked outside the box...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Agreed, slightly outside the box. With VAR in place most probably this penalty would have been overturned.

  14. Good first 60 mins for Stieler in Rome, very pleasant to watch. Good management with two warnings, one for each side, for time wasting. Now hot 30 mins can be expected, Lazio need to win the game.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Minute 64' / 65' in Rome I think handball missed by Stieler, should have been penalty for Lazio, but very difficult to spot.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Very confusing scene in Standard-Eintracht. Jug missed a clear freekick + 2nd YC. After consulting AR2 he gave the freekick but no 2nd yellow card. No one really knew what was going on. Really close to penalty, but I think right decision to only give freekick.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. However, very weird that he issued no card at all. One could even say, it should have been a RC for DOGSO.

      Delete
    2. This should have been even a RC for DOGSO outside the box. But not even a YC is a very crucial mistake.

      Delete
    3. Jug had a shocking match today in what could and should have been an easy match.
      Also, missed y/r decides match.

      Delete
    4. I agree, poor performance by Jug.

      Delete
    5. I have to say, he did not look very interested and just "walked" around most of the times. Not a good performance tonight.

      Delete
  17. Very crucial mistake by Ihor Al'okhin. Wrongly disallowed goal for Getafe. It was the equalizer.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Terrible mistake by Boyko AR2 there. Yes some players in offside making the call difficult but still... the player who scored was clearly ONSIDE. To be honest, football at this level without VAR can't be accepted when we see such blatant mistakes.

      Delete
    2. The issue is that on EL you have Teams where the broadcaster is producing with 6 to 8 cameras. No calibrate lines etc

      Delete
    3. But anyway I would expect that an AR on this level is capable to detect that

      Delete
  18. Very crucial decision in the last minute of Cluj - Rennes by Lopes Martins, goal disallowed for handball. To be rewatched, but very likely he got it right and it wasn't easy. In case, chapeaau.

  20. Correct RC for DOGSO by Letexier. Foul outside the box.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Now penalty and YC (deliberate handball, shot on goal) another correct decision by French referee. It was second YC for the player involved so second RC for Ludogorets. Very challenging game.

  21. Crucial mistake by Ukrainian crew im Basel-Getafe. Spanisch equalizer with less than 10 minutes to be played was wrongly disallowed due to offside.
I watched the game in the stadium so might not be able to judge Serhiy Boyko‘s performance but I liked it from what I saw. But of course the team
made a blatant error important for the outcome.

  25. IMO harsh if not wrong RC for SFP issued by Mazeika in Braga.

  26. Excellent first half from Mattias Gestranius and his team at Old Trafford. His ARs were brilliant, several close decisions and all were correct. AR2 every decision makes with sympathetic smile. I don't think that whole team made a single mistake in 1st half. Interesting that Gestranius is UEFA referee for 10 years and officiated only one match in Champions League so far. We will see whta will 2nd half bring

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Nothing changed in 2nd half. Excellent performance from whole team. ARs remained brilliant. Very convincing performance.

  27. I don't want to be a typical 'muppet' who praises every RC decision, but I believe that Mažieka got this one right. BES No.27 has no control of his body (live sequence) with the tackle, and he meets the BRA player before he meets the floor (replays) which makes it dangerous for his opponent.

Surely it is rather atypical - but for me, spot on to evaluate that as SFP.

    1. Disagree strongly. I only see a completely regular reckless challenge.

      Delete
    2. I also disagree, the point of contact is leg against leg, surely that cannot be red card worthy.

      Delete
    3. You've definitely lost the plot w/ your complaining about relativism ; not a red card, not SFP.

      Delete
  28. It was not completely uncontrolled although it looks like that at first, and if you watch replay after 25", it seems that RC is a bit too harsh, at least in my opinion. I didnt watch the game but at least this situation doesnt look like some deliberate extreme aggressive behaviour which would motivate the ref to be strict with cards... Maybe if thats the case it can be supportable to make such decision.

  29. Ball in the Hand of an unmarked Rangers player!
    Then Rangers goal ...
    I was not aware, Massa!

  30. A penalty and a goal scored by João Pinheiro.
What's your opinion about the debut as a Portuguese young?

  31. New top level referee in Norway is Mohammad Usman Aslam. New 2nd level referees are Ole Valen, Jørgen Haugen and Mathias Kringstad

  32. Regarding the Standard-Eintracht match. In german TV we just saw images that show that Nr.8 of Standard pointed to himself and aparently told Jug that he commited the foul. He did get a YC then. If that is true, that would be unacceptable. That might explain the confusion and the long talk between ref and AR2... they did not know who comitted the foul. WOW

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. N.34 did not get a 2nd YC then, if someone is able to post a video of that situation ('70), it would be greatly appreciated.

    2. Here is Video : https://streamable.com/caufw

      Delete
    3. Very poor management from Jug, and unacceptable not to issue at least a YC there. Completely fooled by nr.8 who earned an unfair caution in order to save his teammate from a potential 2nd YC.

Anyway, this wouldn't had happened with VAR.

  33. Why Zeca don't yellow card in 12 (hand and PK)?

    ReplyDelete
  34. player change in Liège: with video. How can this happen?
    http://ig-schiedsrichter.de/mit-video-die-luettich-luege/

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It simply cannot happen at this level. Not with 4 referees watching. After the Grinfeld debacle against Strasbourg and the Romanian ref team wrongly not sending off Azpilicueta in the semifinal last year, this is now the third crucial mistake against Frankfurt within 2019 Europa League, with only one in favour (Kostic offside vs Benfica).

      Delete
  35. Re. the RC given by Mažeika in Braga; I got it wrong, that tackle was only reckless. Lithuanian had a zero angle and would have made an educated guess that it was a studs tackle, but was wrong.

That is why you should watch a tackle more than once just on your phone before posting a comment, in the middle of watching another game :)
