In Lazio - Cagliari an indirect free kick whistled by referee Marco Piccinini was directly converted in a goal. Read more about that in this analysis written by Dutch Referee Blog: https://www.dutchreferee.com/indirect-free-kick-in-opponents-goal/
Are those the candidates for promotion? I think it is time for Caparrós Hernández, TBH. Not sure how he performs in 2ª B, but he has been appointed for play-offs many times already!
18:00 FK Ventspils - RFS Andris Treimanis (FIFA, UEFA 1st cat.) - Haralds Gudermanis, Aleksejs Spasjonņikovs - Jevgenijs Keziks /Vladimirs Osipovs - Konstantīns Rubīns (LFF Safety and fair play specialist)/
20:00 Valmiera FC - Riga FC Donatas Rumšas (LTU, FIFA, UEFA 2nd cat.) - Aleksandr Radiuš, Dovydas Sužiedelis, Aleksandrs Golubevs (FIFA, UEFA 3rd cat.) /Vadims Direktorenko (UEFA, if I'm not wrong) - ?/
Is anyone watching the French Cup Final? The match is not broadcasted live in my country, but I saw some video clips from which it appears to resemble a brutal war more than a football match...
On Martins: I agree with your impressions of him as a referee, M.
I assume that he, especially as a VAR specialist, will be switched out of UEFA 1st Cat. for either Veríssimo or Pinheiro, who are both more talented in my view.
Also on Portuguese refereeing - congratulations to Carlos Xistra and Jorge Sousa both for very good careers, having retired in recent days!
Napoli - Sassuolo (final score 2-0) set a new record of disallowed goals for a team in a game: 4 goals were annulled for offside. Only one goal was correctly disallowed by AR2, the other three goals needed VAR interventions. First disallowed goal: correct call by AR2 confirmed by VAR. Second disallowed goal: missed offside by AR2 at the start of attack (he didn't manage to follow the action, being late in running). Third disallowed goal: missed offside by AR1 at the start of attack, in this case maybe still acceptable mistake. Fourth disallowed goal:quite blatant offside missed by AR1, this had to be detected live. The referee of the game, Gianluca Aureliano (serie B referee), was quite disappointed when he had to disallow the last goals... he couldn't believe that. I would say very poor by AR1, while AR2 a bit better but still below expected level (he also missed another offside apart from the crucial situations). A short video I found on twitter: https://twitter.com/riosgonzalezp/status/1287142515137708036
Oh my, and all disallowed goals scored by one team!
Unlucky for the referees that all situation ended in goals. I agree that the 4th one was a blatant mistake and must not happen, and it seemed to me as well that Aureliano was disappointed with the outcome.
The 2nd and the 3rd situation were difficult so I would not blame ARs too much for that.
A couple of situations from Latvian Higher League match FK Ventspils - RFS (3-2) handled by Andris Treimanis: https://youtu.be/DmKydrfl7Ag.
=> 2' (at 0:12 in the video) Penalty awarded to FK Ventspils for holding, RC shown to the RFS offender for DOGSO in penalty area without attempting to play the ball. (Penalty is an incorrect decision - should have been a direct free kick outside the penalty area because the holding occured only outside the penalty area. RC for DOGSO is correct, IMO.) => 37' (2:24) Advantage leading to FK Ventspils scoring. (Good one.) => 42' (3:07) RC shown to RFS for DOGSO (holding) close to the penalty area. (Correct decision.) => 46' (4:28) No goal given (ball didn't cross the line). (Correct decision.)
1) I'm not sure. Trabzonspor GK stops the ball with his foot which is behind the goal line. However, the part of the foot he uses to clear the ball is very close to the goal line. Very difficult for ¿Ongun?
@Quilava I agree completely 1)Very tough call but it seems that maybe a small part of the ball was on the line. 2)I am a fan of a lenient approach regarding handball(I dont like italian rules at all), but in this case it was a shot towards a goal and the hand was not completely adjacent to the body so I think it should have been a PK.
Clear DOGSO. He had about 6-7 meters of distance ahead of the other defender if he had kept on running and he was just about to go towards the goal. Very clear.
My first impression while watching the game live was a DOGSO. It was a considerable distance from goal and attacker direction was a bit wide, but a RC would be at least supportable IMO.
Thanks for your views, it is a much more interesting situation than I remembered watching live!
I agree - this situation is a theoretical DOGSO. No other defenders can intervene and thanks to the attackers good play he has a clear route to goal.
While the arguments for SPA are not really satisfactory, direction of travel (as usaref says, the attacker was clearly not running wide) and distance from goal, these are probably the arguments tend to chime loudest 'in the moment'; facing that situation on the pitch, I suppose would also give only a caution as Vinčić did, even that is the theoretically incorrect solution.
AR Grega Kordež could have perceived all that better and could / should (did?) shout in the comms kit for a RC?
Today Melo Pereira published the new SL refereeing list.
Kominis (UEFA 2nd) is out of the list. 6 referees were removed and 8 were added. The weird name is Gratsanis who was demoted last year at 2nd category and he was promoted again. No logic.
With so many referees from different countries either demoted in their countries or retired due age it seems that UEFA will need to publish new lists with referees and not wait until December.
Kominis wasn't demoted. He was removed from the list. He made quite a fuss on a Panathinaikos - Olympiakos match at the Play-OFF.
@Pedro Irmatov
Gratsanis was tested 2 years ago and failed. He was demoted even though he was already 34. Now he is promoted again even though it's evident that he isn't at a SL level. No logic behind his promotion.
His case is similar to Katsikogiannis. He was promoted at 2017, demoted at 2018, re-promoted at 2019 and now re-demoted. What's the logic behind that?
Is that normal procedure in Greece? In most other countries, referees are demoted, not just thrown out right away! Is the removal of referees included in the rules and regulations in Greece or is it an abuse?
Observer will be Božo Mamić. This is his last match as observer since he is retiring due to age of 70 which is a limit in Croatia for observers. Congratulations to him, last five years regular top observer in Croatian league, before that more than 10 years member of Referees Committee.
Regarding Pejin, hmmm.... I must say I am surprised, I have never expected him. I think that Cup final should be a deserved appointment and based on what we have seen this season I think Pejin did not deserve it, he was IMO unconvincing in many games this season including the first ever official match with VAR in Croatia where he whistled three penalties, all after VAR intervention and on field review. Even his matches in after-corona time were not so interesting or important as you would expect for FIFA referee. I must say I am very surprised if not shocked with this appointment and based on showed during entire season totaly undeserved IMO. Strukan, Batinic, Zebec and Matoc would be more logical choices...
I am surprised as well with appointment of Tihomir Pejin. His performance in Varazdin - Hajduk was worst referee performance this season in all matches. Duje Strukan was only logical choice, but ok, good luck to Pejin
However, if we consider that Zebec and Batinic are out because they got last 2 finals, Jovic is from Zagreb, Bebek from Rijeka and Pajac out for obvious reason, we are left with 2 elite group names: Pejin and Strukan.
Strukan would be a better choice, but I am not too surprised that they chose Pejin, he clearly has support after his flaws in form and he is one of 2 candidates, as I said.
We have what probably is the first ever technical mistake with the new LotG. In the Norwegian 1st division match between Sandnes and Ullensaker, Sandnes were allowed to make 5 substitutions on 5 different occasions, including two tactical substitutions in extra time. Sandnes won the game 2-1, Ullensaker has filed a formal protest.
Referee: Svein Tore Sinnes 4th official: Ola Kellerhals
Incredible! How can two referees at the top level have such poor knowledge of the laws of the game! Especially the fourth official, who has as one of his only tasks to make sure that substitutions are carried out correctly.
At least in my country (Serbia), a mistake like this would result in a long suspension and certain demotion at the end of the season, at least for the fourth official. Can someone keep us updated on the status/games of Sinnes and Kellerhals?
According to sofascore, the home team made 5 substitutions in total and away team made 4, each on different occasion. However, a substitution at half time does not count in the "3 occasions rule" so the only mistake was allowing the last substitution in 96'. I wouldnt make drama out of it really, it was in 96' and there were 5 added minutes so the influence was really minimal.
In Serbia you wouldnt be demoted or anything. Refereees are doing whatever they went and never gets suspendend or demoted. There was only 1 demote in last 5 yeara.
Whether no mistakes or one mistake was made regarding substitutions in this match, depends on the following: => if the competition organisers have applied only the first of the two parts of the temporary amendment, then a mistake was made by allowing the 90+6' substitutions; => if the competition organisers have applied both of the two parts of the temporary amendment, then no mistakes were made regarding substitutions (and in that case I would like to give a recommendation to Ullensaker and both Anonymous commenters - read the relevant part of the LotG before saying things like you said).
"Extra time" here refers to 2x15 minutes. This was not played in this game, thus this is obviously a technical mistake and the match should be replayed. Competition organisers can not under any circumstances allow substitutions in more than three stoppages + half time.
@Anonymous (22:58) Of course. I'm sorry - I thought that there was extra time in that match because Forlan wrote 96', not 90+6' (but of course, there are no extra times in regular seasons...). My mistake, disregard that reply. So, yes, a mistake was mede by allowing the 90+6' substitution. But under no circumstances does that mean that the match should be replayed. Nothing in the LotG says that. If the competition's regulations require that, it's ridiculous (I don't think they do). It is the same as with offsides - you do not replay a match just because a factually incorrect offside decision has been made.
From Norway here. Ullensaker/Kisa has quite rightly filed a protest that's being handled by the Norwegian FA (NFF). For the game to be replayed, the disciplinary board must be satisfied that it could have impacted the result of the game (in my opinion they will find that it hasn't). No other statement has been given from the FA.
Svein Tore Sinnes refereed again today, in the main game of the round, however, he was already appointed before the mistake on Monday.
Ola Kellerhals hasn't been reappointed as a fourth official for any game in the coming period, but he has a big game tomorrow in the 2nd division, also appointed before the mistake. It would be a shame if this hampers his progress, he's been a 2nd division referee for many years without being promoted, even being surpassed by his younger brother Mischa who was promoted to the 2nd division after him. This year is his last chance, and he is one of the top contenders for promotion.
OT: I dont know if you remember what Elleray said why Taylor was appointed for the second FA cup final although it is unwritten rule that you may be apppinted to FA cup final as a referee only once. To remind you: A significant part of the cup final appointment is the opportunity to share this - the English refereeing pinnacle - with partners, family, friends and those who have been an important part of their long journey to the final," said FA referees’ committee chairman David Elleray.
“Sadly, this year’s final will be very different and will be held without all these elements in an empty stadium.
"With this in mind, the committee decided it would be unfair to appoint someone who has not yet done the final and have, instead, appointed Anthony Taylor to his second FA Cup final.”
What do you think, is there a chance that Rosetti will apply the same logic in Champions and Europa league and for the finals appoint referees who already were appointed to one of the finals? As I earlier said, Elleray's explanation makes sense to me and now I'm wondering if Rosetti is thinking the same? If yes, I can totaly imagine Cakir in Champions League final, to be honest he deserved second final since he is usualy know as the semi-finals referees and he got only two finals if so far if I remember well (CL 2015, Club WC 2012) despite the fact that he is one of the best referees of all time.
The argument by Elleray can be definitely valid if we try to imagine a referee at his first CL / EL final, but without fans. An extra-ordinary achievement in a career, but without the real atmosphere one could expect. Unfair under some points of view. So - but in my opinion ONLY FOR THIS REASON - one could agree with Elleray. However, at the same time we can't know when it will be possible to have again fans at stadium, so it is without doubts a very difficult topic. Regarding other arguments, I'm against this choice because I think there should be always a new name available for a final, this means that there has been a very good development work with referees. Let's see what Rosetti will decide.
Well, if Rosetti decide to put in the middle the ref who was already in CL final, for me top favorite is Kuipers. Last season probbably, then very good performances, so I expect him. If that would not be the same rer, I predict Orsato or Lahoz.
Kuipers has against him the argument that he already officiated two Europa League finals,in this case let's selected at least a referee who never officiated another final twice before...
I highly disagree with this idea. In your country you have the chance to whistle a final in every year during your (long) career. A final in your country can be a reward for your entire career (even if your form is not so good), which is not the case in Europe, where the top form is more important. So, what I want to say is that in Europe you have your "moment", which could come only once in a lifetime. Lets's say this year Lahoz has his "moment". So, he should whistle the CL final because you never know what will happen next year. Maybe Real or Barca will be in the final, maybe a injury will occur, maybe Lahoz will make some mistakes during the next edition. It's impossible to know. So, I repeat, I highly disagree with this idea. With or without spectators, a final is a final.
All of the Round of Sixteen games from World Cup 2002:
Game of the Round: Korea Republic – Italy, Byron Moreno
More Interesting: Mexico – United States, Vítor Melo Pereira Sweden – Senegal, Ubaldo Aquino Spain – Ireland, Anders Frisk Brazil – Belgium, Peter Prendergast
Less Interesting: Germany – Paraguay, Carlos Batres Japan – Turkey, Pierluigi Collina Denmark – England, Markus Merk
Since anonymous comments are not allowed on WC2002 blog, I will leave my match comment here. You mentioned something along the lines of "FIFA was pleased with Moreno before Totti's red card". Is that something you know for sire or just a supposition?
It is unknown. Many times I asked for that, couldn't get answers. It is so by years in recent times. Juventus - Roma will be the last game for Gianluca Rocchi, you can see a very nice gesture by Orsato working as fourth official there, he never did this role in recent times by years. In Juventus - Roma some years ago (2014) Rocchi had a very controversial performance, with three and more crucial situations. So this appointment is also a very good opportunity to cancel this memory. The game is 100% without importance. Should be the last serie A match for Calvarese and Giacomelli as well, at their last possible season (10th) in serie A.
Croatian football federation announced that Ivana Martincic as REF and Sanja Rodak-Karsic as AR are appointed for Champions League final tournament. It is also said that ten referees have been appointed for the tournament. I guess the same number of referees could be appointed for men CL and EL.
Jackson, I will upgrade your comment. DISASTER. First, second yellow for Kovacic not, red card for Gk of arsenal missed. I will exclude Clatts, Webb and Kavanagh, but English referees are really worst referees than any in top 5 leagues.I now see how Clatts missed on pitch.
Any thoughts on the Bellerin tackle on Christiansen in the lead up to the second goal??? I thought defender was far quicker and clearly got the ball, while Bellerin slide in Christiansen and in my opinion it was a reckless tackle
https://streamable.com/zibesk The very final whistle for Gianluca Rocchi this evening in Juventus - Roma, after a long and oustanding career as referee, started in 1989! Thank you, Gianluca, for everything, and good luck for the future!

The French Syndicate of Referees (SAFE) reports that Benoît Bastien is appointed with his regular team in Saudi Arabia next week. Source: http://www.safe-arbitres.fr/Actualites-1/International-3371.html
That very likely means that UEFA does not plan with Benoît Bastien in the upcoming EL or CL matches (a shame, because after a really convincing performance in Salzburg-Frankfurt, he would actually deserve a CL R16 debut).
I guess that is not illogical not to rely on him, because it is better IMO to appoint a referee in his CL R16 debut in a first leg game. I think the committee could have make room for him in a EL QF though, regarding his recent convincing performances (e.g. Salzburg-Frankfurt as you point)

I think Berke will be a big name in the future - he is perfectly suited to the current optic of UEFA/FIFA Refereeing. His 're-promotion' to NB1 seems a shrewd move by MLSZ.
You can find Refereeing Highlights of the last CLQ Prelims (McNabb, San, Skoulás) in one of our older HL posts :).

Right now I'm watching Maritimo vs Famalicao and first half hour went by and I cant believe that Tiago Martins has the level of leniency that he has.
ReplyDeleteOn Martins: I agree with your impressions of him as a referee, M.
DeleteI assume that he, especially as a VAR specialist, will be switched out of UEFA 1st Cat. for either Veríssimo or Pinheiro, who are both more talented in my view.

ReplyDeleteFirst disallowed goal: correct call by AR2 confirmed by VAR.
A short video I found on twitter:
https://twitter.com/riosgonzalezp/status/1287142515137708036
Oh my, and all disallowed goals scored by one team!
DeleteUnlucky for the referees that all situation ended in goals. I agree that the 4th one was a blatant mistake and must not happen, and it seemed to me as well that Aureliano was disappointed with the outcome.
The 2nd and the 3rd situation were difficult so I would not blame ARs too much for that.

ReplyDelete=> 2' (at 0:12 in the video) Penalty awarded to FK Ventspils for holding, RC shown to the RFS offender for DOGSO in penalty area without attempting to play the ball. (Penalty is an incorrect decision - should have been a direct free kick outside the penalty area because the holding occured only outside the penalty area. RC for DOGSO is correct, IMO.)

Quite controversial game Kayserispor - Trabzonspor, CAKIR was the main referee!
ReplyDelete1) 38' was the ball inside the goal when gk kicked it out? (00:35 in the video) No goal line techology...
2)80' Missed pk for handball? (2:30)
https://tr.beinsports.com/lig/super-lig/ozet/2019-2020/34/kayserispor-1-2-trabzonspor-mac-ozeti
Kayserispor had to win to stay up, so they are probably relegated because they finished last, even if there will be changing a format to 20 clubs.
Your opinions?
1) I'm not sure. Trabzonspor GK stops the ball with his foot which is behind the goal line. However, the part of the foot he uses to clear the ball is very close to the goal line. Very difficult for ¿Ongun?
Delete2) PK for me.
@Quilava I agree completely
Delete1)Very tough call but it seems that maybe a small part of the ball was on the line.
2)I am a fan of a lenient approach regarding handball(I dont like italian rules at all), but in this case it was a shot towards a goal and the hand was not completely adjacent to the body so I think it should have been a PK.
BTW here is the potential DOGSO scene from the Celje - Olimpija Ljubljana title decider, handled by Slavko Vinčić:
ReplyDeletehttps://youtu.be/zWdXxyTiaWs?t=5724
Clear DOGSO. He had about 6-7 meters of distance ahead of the other defender if he had kept on running and he was just about to go towards the goal. Very clear.
DeleteDOGSO more than SPA.
DeleteClear DOGSO. Vincic tries to argue, with his hand gestures, that the attacker is going toward the corner and away from goal. Simply not true.
DeleteMy first impression while watching the game live was a DOGSO. It was a considerable distance from goal and attacker direction was a bit wide, but a RC would be at least supportable IMO.
DeleteThanks for your views, it is a much more interesting situation than I remembered watching live!
DeleteI agree - this situation is a theoretical DOGSO.
OT
ReplyDeleteToday Melo Pereira published the new SL refereeing list.
Kominis (UEFA 2nd) is out of the list. 6 referees were removed and 8 were added. The weird name is Gratsanis who was demoted last year at 2nd category and he was promoted again. No logic.
So, new SL referees are:
Delete-Andreas Gamaris (1983)
-Konstantinos Perrakis (1990)
-Konstantinos Tsetsilas (1987)
-Spyros Zampalas (1993)
-Panagiotis Koukoulas (1992)
-Angelos Angelakis (1983)
-Evangelos Gratsanis (1984)
-Alexandros Tsakalidis (1993)
('Latin' script and dates of birth according to Transfermarkt)
Only Gratsanis has experience on 1st Division cause he officiated matches at 2018-2019 season but got demoted to 2nd division last season.
DeleteAny reason why Kominis was demoted? Was he really that bad that he should leave FIFA list?
DeleteGuess Gratsanis performed well after demotion, logical indeed that he is promoted again!
DeleteWith so many referees from different countries either demoted in their countries or retired due age it seems that UEFA will need to publish new lists with referees and not wait until December.
Delete@Referee 12
DeleteKominis wasn't demoted. He was removed from the list. He made quite a fuss on a Panathinaikos - Olympiakos match at the Play-OFF.
@Pedro Irmatov
If Kominis was not demoted, what does "removed from the list" means? Where can he referee?
DeleteIt means that if he chooses to continue (which he will not) he can only referee matches on amateur level.
DeleteMaybe Clatenburg will give him another chance?
DeleteI don't think so. He is already 40 and he will lose the FIFA badge. So it's highly unlikely.
DeleteIs that normal procedure in Greece? In most other countries, referees are demoted, not just thrown out right away! Is the removal of referees included in the rules and regulations in Greece or is it an abuse?
DeleteIt is normal procedure. The regulations state that you can either be removed or demoted.

Saturday 1st August

Tihomir Pejin - Goran Pataki, Goran Perica - Marko Matoc
[Goran Gabrilo, Tomislav Petrović]
DeleteI agree with you partially.
DeleteHowever, if we consider that Zebec and Batinic are out because they got last 2 finals, Jovic is from Zagreb, Bebek from Rijeka and Pajac out for obvious reason, we are left with 2 elite group names: Pejin and Strukan.
ReplyDeleteReferee: Svein Tore Sinnes
4th official: Ola Kellerhals
Incredible! How can two referees at the top level have such poor knowledge of the laws of the game! Especially the fourth official, who has as one of his only tasks to make sure that substitutions are carried out correctly.
DeleteAt least in my country (Serbia), a mistake like this would result in a long suspension and certain demotion at the end of the season, at least for the fourth official.
Deleteand it is not a top level but 2nd level in Norway, Eliteserien is the top league.
DeleteIn Serbia you wouldnt be demoted or anything. Refereees are doing whatever they went and never gets suspendend or demoted. There was only 1 demote in last 5 yeara.
DeleteDont you get an extra substitution opportunity for extra time added on?
DeleteWhether no mistakes or one mistake was made regarding substitutions in this match, depends on the following:
Delete=> if the competition organisers have applied only the first of the two parts of the temporary amendment, then a mistake was made by allowing the 90+6' substitutions;
=> if the competition organisers have applied both of the two parts of the temporary amendment, then no mistakes were made regarding substitutions (and in that case I would like to give a recommendation to Ullensaker and both Anonymous commenters - read the relevant part of the LotG before saying things like you said).
"Extra time" here refers to 2x15 minutes. This was not played in this game, thus this is obviously a technical mistake and the match should be replayed. Competition organisers can not under any circumstances allow substitutions in more than three stoppages + half time.
DeleteCan anyone from Norway clarify whether the Norway FA considered it as a technical mistake or provided any explanation?
Delete@Anonymous (22:58) Of course. I'm sorry - I thought that there was extra time in that match because Forlan wrote 96', not 90+6' (but of course, there are no extra times in regular seasons...). My mistake, disregard that reply.
DeleteSo, yes, a mistake was mede by allowing the 90+6' substitution.
DeleteSvein Tore Sinnes refereed again today, in the main game of the round, however, he was already appointed before the mistake on Monday.

To remind you:
ReplyDeleteA significant part of the cup final appointment is the opportunity to share this - the English refereeing pinnacle - with partners, family, friends and those who have been an important part of their long journey to the final," said FA referees’ committee chairman David Elleray.
I hope, Rosetti won`t use this practice in UCL and UEL finals
DeleteThe argument by Elleray can be definitely valid if we try to imagine a referee at his first CL / EL final, but without fans. An extra-ordinary achievement in a career, but without the real atmosphere one could expect. Unfair under some points of view. So - but in my opinion ONLY FOR THIS REASON - one could agree with Elleray.
DeleteHowever, at the same time we can't know when it will be possible to have again fans at stadium, so it is without doubts a very difficult topic.
DeleteKuipers has against him the argument that he already officiated two Europa League finals,in this case let's selected at least a referee who never officiated another final twice before...
DeleteCakir will be in Portugal, no in Germany
DeleteSo he can be the first referee to referee 2 UCL finals, but no handling UEL final

DeleteJuventus - Roma will be the last game for Gianluca Rocchi, you can see a very nice gesture by Orsato working as fourth official there, he never did this role in recent times by years.

Esther Staubli and Susanne Küng have been selected for the UEFA Women Champions League Tournament in Spain in August 2020
It seems that Frappart is also preparing for the UWCL finals.
DeleteCroatian football federation announced that Ivana Martincic as REF and Sanja Rodak-Karsic as AR are appointed for Champions League final tournament. It is also said that ten referees have been appointed for the tournament. I guess the same number of referees could be appointed for men CL and EL.
ReplyDeleteApparently, Atkinson got another domestic final in England next week!
ReplyDeleteI think he has had a poor season this season.

DeleteWrong YC for Chelsea No.19
Wrong second YC for No.17 and small fracas with YCs for Arteta and Chelsea No.2
DeleteAlso the Arsenal GK possibly handling outside the box, not seen a replay though. Not sure if it would be a RC so maybe VAR couldn't check it.
DeleteNOT a good second FA cup final performance from Taylor.
ReplyDeleteJackson, I will upgrade your comment. DISASTER. First, second yellow for Kovacic not, red card for Gk of arsenal missed. I will exclude Clatts, Webb and Kavanagh, but English referees are really worst referees than any in top 5 leagues.I now see how Clatts missed on pitch.
DeleteAny thoughts on the Bellerin tackle on Christiansen in the lead up to the second goal???
DeleteI thought defender was far quicker and clearly got the ball, while Bellerin slide in Christiansen and in my opinion it was a reckless tackle

ReplyDeleteThe very final whistle for Gianluca Rocchi this evening in Juventus - Roma, after a long and oustanding career as referee, started in 1989!

DeleteAlways very emotional to see a referee blowing his final whistle, you could see it when he blew it!
DeleteThank you, Gianluca Rocchi for your services to football throughout the years! You can look back at a fantastic career! All the best for the future!

The French Syndicate of Referees (SAFE) reports that Benoît Bastien is appointed with his regular team in Saudi Arabia next week. Source: http://www.safe-arbitres.fr/Actualites-1/International-3371.html
ReplyDeleteThat very likely means that UEFA does not plan with Benoît Bastien in the upcoming EL or CL matches (a shame, because after a really convincing performance in Salzburg-Frankfurt, he would actually deserve a CL R16 debut).
I guess that is not illogical not to rely on him, because it is better IMO to appoint a referee in his CL R16 debut in a first leg game. I think the committee could have make room for him in a EL QF though, regarding his recent convincing performances (e.g. Salzburg-Frankfurt as you point)

DeleteI think Berke will be a big name in the future - he is perfectly suited to the current optic of UEFA/FIFA Refereeing. His 're-promotion' to NB1 seems a shrewd move by MLSZ.
You can find Refereeing Highlights of the last CLQ Prelims (McNabb, San, Skoulás) in one of our older HL posts :).
Thank you! :)
