DeleteCraig Thompson and Paolo Tagliavento will surpass 45 in 2018. Will they continue as Fifa referees?
Delete3rd appointment for Tagliavento in CL this season although it's more than clear that the appointment on MD3 was as a replacement of Orsato... But the question that arises to my mind now is that who has Mazic replaced?? Maybe is it Slavko Vincic?? He is the only one I can think of who is missing from the appointments!!

ReplyDeleteFK Brodarac and Zoran Petrovic (observer) both from Serbia in the same game?
Yes, in 90% of youth league matches, observer is from home team country.
DeleteTagliavento: missed RC in 88th minute? VC or just UB? He went for UB.
ReplyDeleteGave a penalty to Besiktas earlier... 7 YCs issued in the match!!
DeleteText commentary however reports a good performance by the Italian. I tend more towards RC, but it wasn’t as intense as Nasri on Neymar.
DeleteThe Italian has been in good form in this season!!
DeleteFor me clear violent conduct and intention to hurt. RC missed.
ReplyDeleteTOT vs RMA: Missed offside before the 1:0 in 26' from AR2 Ongun. Tight, but offside.
ReplyDeleteMistake was made by AR1 Duran, I think.
DeleteThe coaches, substitutes and AR1 Duran are on the other side of the pitch in Wembley Stadium. Quite unusual. But the one who made the mistake was Ongun.
DeleteIt is just a matter of TV cameras, David. They are on the other side than the usual one. :)
DeleteYou are right.
DeleteI tried to explain it but chose the more difficult option :)
Tagliavento is still a top referee. He seems to have lost pace, and relies on a less friendly face and more on authoritarianism and, certainly, on experience. And that works well for him. However, he doesn't deviate from a strict diagonal path, and that cost a lot of trouble in the middle of the pitch (some 20-25 metres into each half). He tended to get into the way of players, to be too close to action and ball, and the latter hit him twice, giving advantage to the opposite side of the one having control of the ball. Giallatini (ar1) had some difficult situations to decide upon. He looks like "old school" raising the flag even if the the player in the offside position is neither playing the ball nor interfering with an opponent. For me, Meli (ar2) had a better game though he faced less challenging situations.
Delete26min crucial mistake by AR in TOT - RMA, offside ?
ReplyDeleteBeşiktaş - Monaco
ReplyDelete88' - unsporting behaviour vs violent conduct
https://streamable.com/06mz6
No intention to play the ball, it is clear that player wanted only to hurt the opponent, in my opinion RC.
DeleteAgreed. Very surprised not to see red for VC. I suppose Istanbul is an intimidating venue that makes referees think twice about such decisions.
DeleteFelix Brych first half: overall, a not challenging game. Expected level performance so far.
ReplyDeleteSome situations worthy of being mentioned:
19' important offside by AR1, denying a goal scoring opportunity, correct decision, it was tight so very well seen.
30' / 31' some moments of tension between players from both teams, luckily there wasn't an escalation and it ended after a few seconds by itself but I think Brych could have spent some words there, at least to show more his presence.
43': (minor) penalty appeal right in front of AAR2, correct decision to play on, definitely not a penalty (however, not a challenging decision)
44': foul by Fernandinho in the midfield: this was in my opinion the only situation in which a YC could have been given in first half, by using a strict approach (reckless challenge), however, still absolutely OK to whistle without issuing it.
Good performance so far. He took the backseat. However, I'm missing more prevention in his performance so far.
Delete61' Awkward but clear penalty commited by Sané to Albiol. Right appeal for Brych
ReplyDeleteSeconds later MCI's penalty appeal. Correct play on. Undeliberate handball.
DeleteAnd second later rather wrong offside call from AR2.
Tense minutes for German team.
Crucial minutes for Brych...
ReplyDelete64': correct penalty whistled to Napoli, good detection by Brych who was exactly looking there, this penalty could have been easily missed.
A few later at first a penalty appeal by Manchester City for deliberate handball (replay showed that Brych took a correct decision playing on) and then a very controversial offside flag by AR2, stopping a very promising attack by home-team, I think this time it was ONSIDE... but the action was really quick
Nonetheless, some excellent on- and offside calls from both assistants in Naples. One of them in 68' (AR2).
DeleteYes you are right, now another very good one (82', AR2).
DeleteGood performance of team Cakir in London. 2 YC in the last few minutes, both absolutely deserved. The only issue is the missed offside before the first goal.
ReplyDeleteWhat about missed handball from Modric prior Real's goal? Hard to see, not deliberate, but...
DeleteI think the biggest mistake is YC for Dembele in 89'. Cakir totally missed Demebele's studs on Kross (orange card), and just a second after that for SFP on Ramos he gave only YC to Dembele. At least two YCs in two seconds, IMO.
You are right with the situation in 89'. Cakir chose the easiest option IMO, this also was the first card in the match. But technically you are right, I also thought about two YC. But I never expected that they would be issued. For sure a situation which isn't easy to handle.
Delete89' is more RC but I can accept YC.
DeleteAbout handball, it's never punishable IMO.
89' incident
Deletehttps://streamable.com/4v8kl
In my opinion, YC is OK.
DeleteWait a second. Some of you think Dembele's "foul" on Kroos was an orange card?! I watch that on replay and I can't really tell if he even fouled him.
DeleteOn the Ramos-Dembele incident in 89', I think yellow for Dembele is fine. In fact, I notice how Ramos also goes into the challenge by showing his studs--he's no angel in all of this. A red card for Dembele in this situation would have been a terrible decision.
90'+1: mandatory YC issued by Brych, this time it was impossible to avoid it...
ReplyDelete90'+4: frustration by Mertens (Napoli), violent conduct? Brych decided for YC.
Does anybody saw Hategan? Because a commentary said that Leipzig's coach wasn't satisfied with his performance, would be nice if somebody have some info about it. But I don't know if we can trust the commentary, maybe everything had been alright.
ReplyDeleteI saw that one of the three goals scored by Porto looks offside. Three players seem to be in (tight) offside at the moment of a free kick's execution.
DeleteIf there was an offside on the second Porto goal, it was a really tight one, nearly impossible to detect that (need to review that again though).
DeleteI thought that Hategan did a good job, we can discuss about a missing YC in the first half for SPA (holding), otherwise his line was clear and predictable in terms of punishing other SPA cases and foul detection.
Okay thank you! So nothing 'serious' happenend.
DeleteHategan is realy very good referee.
ReplyDeleteHe did a very good job in Porto.
It seems as there were two penalty appeals by Borussia Dortmund for alleged deliberate handballs. It woule be nice to know more about that...
ReplyDelete23' - penalty incident
Deletehttps://streamable.com/d4lpv
36' - handball
https://streamable.com/er92m
69' - handball
https://streamable.com/do3xg
Thanks as always, Ray :)
Delete23': AAR1 looked to be sure there, supportable decision to play on.
36': Very difficult decision, I think that a penalty was possible there, given the position of both arms, but at the same time the "hitting point" of the ball on the arm maybe gives a chance to back referee, indeed even in case of arms in natural position, the ball would have hit the same point... supportable, but to me a bit more penalty than play on. At any rate, difficult to say that Jug had the exact perception of the incident, given the position where it occurred.
69': it seems as the touch happens close to shoulder, one can't be sure about the handball, but in case of touch by arm, in this case I would punish it without doubts, it would be a clear penalty.

More than strange, wasn't already planned that Marciniak was a candidate for a WC play off? I don't think that something changed in last times... well, at any rate, excellent news for the Polish, of course. It was expected!

What does this imply? No playoff for Çakir?
DeleteMaybe he has a game on 10 November. Then, a friendly 4 days later woule be more than OK. Impossible to think that the Turkish wont handle a play off, he is loved by Busacca ;)
DeleteExactly so... The name of Çakir is enough for a playoff appointment actually... However sure he may it's difficult not to appoint him for a playoff... Still I would have preferred him in the more important 2nd legs rather than 1st legs!!
DeleteWaiting for the play off appointment for the Turkish, and I'm sure that he has it, we can say that at moment Cüneyt Çakır, among the UEFA Elite referees, after Rizzoli's retirement, is surely the most considered and highly rated by both UEFA and FIFA. How many top clashes, how many important games, how many FIFA tournaments... I must say, apart from EURO 2016, which was not so good, and a few performance before and after that, starting from 2010 until today, he has been one of the best UEFA referee ever. Turkey can be absolutely proud... no doubts...
DeleteI think it will be more fair to say one of the most considered... I don't think there's much to separate Brych, Çakir and Kuipers based on palmares, current form and overall reputation... Brych maybe slightly behind on the palmares side but based on reliability the German, the Turkish and the Dutch are at par surely!!

Di Bello has a very interesting game in Florence. Given the two clubs involved, it is similar to a big match, but clearly a step below due to standings. The ideal game for starting with such appointments, waiting for the FIFA badge on next months.
And, you can see, Orsato will officiate on Sunday at 12:30 pm Inter - Torino. Rizzoli has appointed him with Di Fiore and Manganelli, with Tagliavento as VAR. All of them will be involved, as you all know, on next week, in a very important game in Honduras, World Cup play off. However, to be honest, given the long travel and the need to spend some days in Honduras due to jet lag, I expected that they would have left Italy many days before the game. But at the end they wont go before (at least) Sunday evening...

The big match (quite expected) for Stieler, who has the "German clasico" for the third time in the last four BL matches between those teams.
Petersen with his second BL game overall after a bad debut in September.
