DeleteThank you.
DeleteHappy to help :)
DeleteCould you post again the "categories" of the observers at some point, please? It was very useful in the 3rd team at the time.
DeleteYes, it is indeed planned. Hopefully I will manage that. To add, on next weeks you will find again some things we had on the previous blog. :) I just ask for some patience at moment...
DeleteYes, of course, and thank you very much for all the info!
DeleteGood appointment again for Kruzliak. Not a match of great importance, but certainly with big names. Good match for him.
ReplyDeleteIt seems as if Turpin has gained much trust, which he deserves after many good matches. Great appointment for him.
Some considerations reading the appointment: not a good group stage this season for Collum, I watched him in the first match (Napoli - Feyenoord) and he was below expected level. This assignment is in a way the confirmation (a team plays at home against an opponent who is already out from the competition), hopefully he will recover again for KO stage. In the other game of the group, with Liverpool and Sevilla qualified at moment, Felix Brych will officiate another top clash in his international career. Given that Spartak should win against Maribor, the loser in this game could be in trouble then for qualification.
ReplyDeleteVery good that Kružliak got immediately a second game after his debut, the match absolutely allows it.
In the same group Skomina has again a very important game, this time crucial for qualification, even though not a top clash on paper. Just to add: in recent times the Slovenian has officiated only Italian teams, that's a particular coincidence. He already handled Napoli in play off, then Juventus and Roma in group stage, and now again Napoli. Overall a very good moment for him and he is still ensuring excellent performances.
Group G is still open to any outcome, and the committee has decided for Spanish assignments. Porto in Turkey should win to ensure the second place, Mateu Lahoz will be there.
Monaco - Leipzig is something like a last call for both teams if Porto will lose in Istanbul. A very important game for Undiano.
In group H with Tottenham already qualified, the game in Dortmund is of course crucial for Borussia, Turpin will be there. It can be considered as top clash as well, and so the French got in my opinion a good assignment.
For tomorrow I expect Marciniak in Juventus - Barcelona.
Second option would be Atletico - Roma, I think.
Chance for one of these game for Karasev and Hategan as well.
My prediction for Juventus v Barcelona is Milorad Mazic and for Atlético Madrid v Roma is Szymon Marciniak
DeleteI share your opinion Soham.
DeleteMarciniak was in charge of Juve v Barca in the last season's KO stage. Do you think it matters?
DeleteIndeed, to be honest, I had forgotten that appointment, so we will see the Polish surely on MD6.

ReplyDeleteCan someone please provide some information on what the big controversies are that are going on in Hungary in connection to Viktor Kassai?? I'm hearing that he's domestically facing lots of problems (politics ?) and there are certain about Hungary's FIFA list submitted this year... Can someone who knows about it please clarify??
I think he can as well retire now?? He has nothing more to achieve in his career... He doesn't have any other major tournament left where he participate and neither is he getting big matches in Hungary or in Europe... He should probably leave it for the next Hungarian now?? Similar explanation might be valid for Eriksson??
DeleteThinking back at 2010 and 2011, I'm really sorry for Kassai. We can say again that very likely he got too much too early in his international career and then after that he lost all motivations. That's very sad. In addition, he had injures and problems with some assistant referees at his side. His career is now close to an end, at least on international level, but I hope he can achieve still something before leaving the list.
DeleteYes maybe a big UCL QF or SF appointment or something like that would be a good farewell... But on current form that's difficult... Otherwise based on current picture his international career has kind of come to a very sad end :(
DeleteAgreed definitely with Chefren, also the same speech for Velasco, and many others on a lesser scale. Finals in 2011 was the last year of Cornu IIRC, at least before Collina?
DeleteAgainst this background, Turpin DESERVEDLY attending WC (okay, as reserve referee but still) is to his merit.

Easy first half for Mateu Lahoz. 3 YC, the first of them a bit soft, I think. The other two fully correct (SPA and reckless foul).
ReplyDeleteNew FIFA referees from Norway are Rohit Saggi and Kristoffer Hagenes.
ReplyDeleteOff the list goes Svein Erik Edvartsen, after several negative off-field incidents that are huge mess and way too complicated to talk about, and Martin Lundby, who wants to prioritize his business career. He is regarded as one of the biggest management talents in Norway and is an executive at one of Norway's largest companies, so his retirement is understandable. He was also never highly regarded as a referee either.
What's so wrong with Edvartsen?? Can you at least share some links??
DeleteFrom what I have read, he had a conflict with Terje Hauge, then he was accused of writing mails to other referees about this issue under a fictive name. Therefore, he was fired and hasn't handled an Eliteserien game since 6 November 2016. Edvartsen even sued NFF for ungrounded dismissal and false accusations.
DeleteApart from that, he is already 38 and there was no visible progress at UEFA stage.
@RayHD didn't he get a UYL Quarterfinal? But anyway I agree, no modern style and clearly not making friends in Norway... with the problems in Team Moen that are CLEARLY the fault of his Second Assistant, NFF seems to have big problems in refereeing.
DeleteIs Nielsen a future hope?
RayHD sums it up pretty well. Edvartsen has sued the federation, demanding to be reinstated both in his civil occupation as an executive at the NFF office, and as a referee. He has also sued the director of public relations at NFF (his colleague) for making "defamatory" statements.
DeleteFirst, Edvartsen had a conflict with Hauge, which was resolved, but shortly after that several referees went out in the media, one assistant even crying on TV, claiming Edvartsen had been harassing them both in person and on WhatsApp. Most of the referees went out and said they would not referee anymore if Edvartsen was reinstated. He was then suspended again, with an agreement that he would be back in 2018. He was also paid to make up for expenses lost for not refereeing.
Then, about 40 E-mails emerged, all sent under a fake name to NFF and Norwegian media, that praised Edvartsen, while criticising and making accusations about Terje Hauge and other referees (also from before this case emerged!)
Edvartsen was then dismissed from his civil job at NFF, and immediately sued to get his job back. It does not help that Edvartsen has a lawyer who is regarded as Norway's best, and also is his best friend. The tone has been extremely confrontational.
Edvartsen has the support of several disgruntled referees, who actively support him. However, nobody has come out and claimed to have sent the e-mails in question, while a lot points towards Edvartsen at least having sent some of them (IP address has been pinged to the area around his house in the small city he lives in).
The case will come before the Oslo City Court at the beginning of 2018, and it will be a high-profile case with massive media coverage.
------------
Mikael: Moen's second assistant? If you mean Andås, he was replaced and dismissed last winter (and now is one of Edvartsen's main supporters...) The replacement, Lundberg, has not made any mistakes to my knowledge so far.
Nilsen is probably the best hope we have. UEL debut on Thursday.
In Sweden there will be at least one change on the Fifa-list. It’s not confirmed who’s going to quit( probably Johannesson) but the new referee Karlsson is a good referee who’s not afraid of taking game changing decisions(correct ones).
DeleteIs he Bo Karlsson's son?
DeleteWhat I mean was, clearly Åndus clearly wasn't the problem in Team Moen, and I more than sympathise with him to support Edvartson, as wrong as his case might be (it seems?). Ironic that replacing Åndas was presumably to keep Moen in Elite. Sorry, that was a bit of British sarcasm about AR2 ;-)
DeleteWhat an incredible situation, if you think the problems at DFB in Germany are big...
No, he’s not Bo Karlsson’s son, but Bo Karlsson has a son who this year became one of the 22 top division referees in Sweden, but he’s 44 years old so he will not advance any more
DeleteGood performance by Mateu Lahoz and his team in an easy match. As usual, great player management.
ReplyDeleteExcellent management, full control. I'm sure he is able to control every game. Some soft free kicks I sometimes couldn't have agreed with but it's a minor thing and he's surely a future final(s) referee. I love his style!
DeleteAny info abut Collum? Unexpected outcome of the game there...
ReplyDeleteI watched second half and it was easy match. Couple of YCs, no controversial decisions, full control of the match. All in all pretty match for him
Delete*pretty easy
Delete35' - DORTMUND-TOTTENHAM
ReplyDeletePotential violent conduct by Aubameyang right in front of AAR1 Buquet?
I forgot to mention: very good ONSIDE call by AR1 prior to the 1-0 for Dortmund.
DeleteExpected level first half for Skomina: full control no issues. One YC for reckless tackle (25'), it was absolutely correct.
ReplyDeleteI liked when he whistled an indirect free kick for dangerous play in the midfield, this is nowadays very rare to see.
Faultless performance by both assistant referees, especially AR1, who was very often challenged.
Some key match incidents to judge for Mr. Kružliak in the Man. City - Feyenoord game. He is firm and has the game under full control even though the players are helping him by being interested in playing football. Very good performance by Martin Balko in the first half - some very good onsides and tight offsides correctly judged.
ReplyDeleteIn the second half there was no penalty shouts but instead six yellow cards were shown. All of them fully correct. Tomáš Somoláni with one mistake and some good onside calls. Overall an 8.4, maybe 8.5 performance (really faultless, very good application of the LoTG) if we judge all the three penalty shouts and one potential dogso incident as correctly rejected by the referee.

I think we can back referee in all decisions.
DeleteBrych without problems in the first half, missing a YC to Mané (tactically it was awkward, but a clear YC) but still good performance.
ReplyDeleteVery big delay but Dankert told Brych he saw a penalty.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely correct, good teamwork but not ideal presentation.
Impressive performance by Brych in an intensive second half, I really like his style in these atmospheres, he is the perfect man to send to these matches. Maybe we can talk about one or the other small mistake, but in bigger picture (Penalty, Control) convincing performance.
ReplyDeleteMore challenging second half for Skomina, I think he did overall well.
ReplyDeleteCorrect YCs:
77' for holding an opponent and stopping a quick counterattack
78' potentially crucial incident, SPA at the edge of penalty area, attacker was fouled without being in control of the ball, the decision came with a bit of delay, maybe help by AR2 / AAR2
85' reckless tackle by a player from Shakhtar, then Napoli's keeper went outside the box just to make complaints, and Skomina immediately booked him as well, great signal if you ask me
There were some moments of tension in the last minutes of the game, but Skomina was able to manage the situation without particular issues.
AR2 was very challenged, in 47' and 59' he reported offside but maybe players were onside, however he did at least other two correct and very important calls, furthermore position before 1-0 was correctly assessed, so I wouldn't penalize him too much, given the big work he had to do.
APOEL - Real Madrid: 90' Daniel Carvajal (RMA) is booked for time-wasting.
ReplyDeleteScore: 0-6.
It looks extremely weird...
It is weird, but he did it on purposely so he clears all of his cards.
DeleteIf you remember, that is what some Barca players did in recent years.
Pique vs.Arsenal,Neymar and Rakitic vs. Celtic,Dani Alves vs.Roma,Atletico Madrid last year against Leverkusen when they were leading 2-4 and in 89 and 90 minute Torres,Luis and Gabi got booked on purpose.
There is even Real Madrid example in 2010 against Ajax and they were fined by Uefa for doing that.
So, UEFA should punish the player.
DeleteEvery amateur footballer is more intelligent and doesn't do it that obvious.
DeleteAverage Undiano today,he managed Poulsen(RB' player) altercations with other Monaco players badly,3-4 times there was some incident with him and mainly Glik,so he could have booked both players and that would be that with those two.
ReplyDeleteBut he choose lenient way so at the end game got little bit dirty with Poulsen elbowing Monaco player and then Jorge made a brutal tackle on Poulsen.
Luckily no one got injured, but I wish Mallenco managed that situation beter.
Some of the most interesting situations in the Borussia Dortmund vs. Tottenham Hotspur game (Clément Turpin, FRA), including the situations mentioned by Stake (onside before goal TOT and possible violent conduct Aubameyang).

The problem in the Aubameyang vs Sánchez duel is the division of responsibilities. Mr. Buquet doesn't know whether he should follow the player controlling the ball (he should've been followed by AR) or the pair behind him. You can see it on the screenshots below:
Deletehttps://pasteboard.co/GUK9Fj1.png
https://pasteboard.co/GUK8FKS.png
https://pasteboard.co/GUK9b7J.png
To be honest, Mr. Turpin's sprint wasn't the best in this situation and anticipating the action a second earlier would have helped him gaining a better position.
Of course, it should've been a red card taking into account the new passage in the LoTG.
Very good analysis, RayHD. Indeed, the "problem" for Buquet is that he looks at the ball and he misses the incident, then he has a feeling that something has happened, but it is too late. I think we can't blame him too much, because in such situation it is of course important to keep eyes on the ball as first thing.
DeleteAt the same time, impossible for Turpin, who was too far away.
@DutchRef the last video seems to have some problems, it is reported "still in process", but many hours have passed...
