I predict Michael Oliver for Dynamo Kyiv v AEK Athens and Anthony Taylor for Atalanta v Borussia Dortmund 🤔🤔
ReplyDeleteExcellent RC decision by Taylor in Wigan - Manchester City, FA Cup.
ReplyDeleteExcessive force.
But the card showing procedure and management left a lot to be desired... He took out his yellow card way too early and started writing and suddenly changed it to a red out of the blue which gave an impression of being influenced by Wigan players... In my point of view even the decision is debatable but that's for another day ;)
DeleteHere is a tough match https://streamable.com/rihwa
Deletehttps://www.footbie.com/video/fabian-delph-straight-red-card-wigan-vs-manchester-city-fa-cup
DeleteA video ^
Taylor showing to be very strict with SFP in the last months, I would call that a positive development, he is a better referee for being firm and unimpressed on the pitch, IMO.
I didn't know about the procedure by Taylor, I only watched the foul on youtube. Surely this wasn't a good thing. I thought that he had immediately shown the RC. In any case, I agree that for somebody this can be very harsh or even wrong, but I'm sure the RC is not a mistake. Hitting point is low but despite of that, challenge is made with excessive force and very dangerous.
DeleteHalf way up the shin is "low"? So would that make knee level contact "mid level"?
Delete(For once) I can agree with @Sheriff, I would say that YC is still acceptable, the procedure is far from ideal, but it is actually refreshing to see a referee decide it's SFP in such a situation. I would much rather English referees took this approach, compared than missing absolutely brutal cases of SFP. Even against the background a RC he gave in Wolves - Swansea was (somehow) called a crucial mistake and overturned by the FA, respect for having the guts to take this decision (despite having decided for YC initially).
DeleteI assume Taylor thought all the way it's a YC... The decision has surely changed because of inputs from one of his colleagues??
DeleteSurely First Assistant or even Fourth Official would have shouted into the micro, and although Taylor was close his insight into the tackle was quite poor (not his fault, by luck).
DeleteThis also counts for the merits of bringing a notebook onto the pitch, if you aren't sure between YC/RC much better to get that out and have time to make an informed decision.
An English referee in 2018 finally correctly gives a Red Card for a clear case of SFP. Something that most of us have been hammering EPL Referee's for their inability to do so. And yet Taylor's correct decision is being skewered?
ReplyDeleteFor you it is correct, for me it is extremely debatable... That's how opinion works... This is not a formula in Physics so obviously everyone has a different set of interpretations and we can only agree to disagree!!
DeleteI'm curious to see your perspective. What is this tackle lacking in order for it to be a case of SFP and deserving of a Red Card?
DeleteIf you call that RC debatable, then you are not a referee.
DeleteAbsolutely correct decision. No doubt about That.
DeleteI'm a referee and I would go yellow for that... The player got much of the ball, the tackle wasn't too high and it was not too footed... Excessive force is subjective and for me that's only reckless and a yellow... My interpretation!!
DeleteA tackle doesn't need to be 2 footed in order to be SFP. It is not written in the LOTG.
DeleteSo a player planting his studs at mid shin level is considered "wasn't too high". Interesting! You learn something new everyday.

Correct RC, but poor disciplinary management
ReplyDeleteGood appointment for Moen. Good to see that he gets an interesting clash and I hope he can convince. It's still a really sad thing that he was demoted, though it was deserved.
ReplyDeleteGood appointment for Mazeika, important observer for Vincic. Kralovec with a not so interesting clash.
Dissapointing match for Kruzliak, though whistling in the Arsenal Stadium is a great experience of course.
I suppose he is kept for something bigger after this.
Some remarks.
ReplyDeleteAt first, let's remember that these appointments have been made before knowing first leg scores, so the referees who got already decided clashes, under this point of view, were just unlucky.Kružliak is surely one of them, but, as already written by RikB, definitely a wonderful experience to officiate at Arsenal Stadium. Very likely, he will get something more and surely a better game.
We have many Spanish assignments, with Mateu Lahoz, Undiano Mallenco and Gil Manzano. Including also the previous appointments for Del Cerro Grande and Fernández Borbalán, Spain is at moment the country with the biggest number of referees appointed in KO stage. All of them in Europa League.
Milan - Ludogorets and Zenit - Celtic again with Elite referees assignments, after Mazic and Skomina in first legs.
Europa League for Karasev. I must say, I'm still not fully convinced by the Russian and his management by committee. He is potentially a talent but every now and then he makes some evident and blatant mistakes in his game, as it happened in CL group stage. Being honest, I think he is less reliable than other elite referees, and now, since he is Elite by a long time, I don't know if there are real chances for improvement. That's of course my feeling and I can be wrong. But if we compare, for example, Karasev and Turpin, we must say that the French has gained a certain trust by committee in recent times, while the Russian is still looking for it. Both will be at World Cup, but as for now, I can't imagine the Russian on the pitch.
Very important game for Vincic in Rome with Fandel, committee member. The game will be very hot, after first leg's score.
Finally, an English team with Taylor in Leipzig. Decent appointment but nothing extra-ordinary, given also that the clash seems to be already decided in favor of German side.
Atkinson not appointed: so it should be true that he didn't attend the course in Malta, even though he was called by UEFA.
Tamás Bognár and Jakob Kehlet with their KO stage debuts, if I'm not wrong. Good news for Hungarian and Danish refereeing.
If I am not wrong Liany, Bezborodov and Ekberg were in Malta but did not get a match. Two options: not so good results in Malta and as no match or they will be appointed in next round. Bezborodov and Liany are experienced and I would not be surprised but Ekberg in round of 16 as his first knock out match would be surprise.
DeleteYes, Liany and Bezborodov can get games on next round.
DeleteAbout Ekberg, let's remember that he got promoted right now, so maybe before a KO stage assignment, committee wants to wait. Also, to be mentioned again that in Eriksson's game, Ekberg switched his position with Johannesson, and the latter was AAR1. This could be another signal that for the moment Ekberg still needs time.
No Michael Oliver... Why I have no idea really!!
ReplyDeleteNo matches for Bebek,Estrada,Grafe,Boyko,Shorgenhofer...Season over for them?
ReplyDeleteIt was already clear, they didn't attend the course, so they couldn't be appointed.
DeleteMore here:
https://law5-theref.blogspot.com/2018/01/uefa-26th-advanced-course-for-top.html
But where is Michael Oliver?? Out of favour??
DeleteThere are also other referees still not appointed, so we have just to wait :) Nothing extra-ordinary, I think. Maybe we will see him in Europa League on next round.
DeleteBut all missing Elite officials will attend UCL 2nd legs :) Not the same of Oliver :)
DeleteIf Besiktas are blown away by Bayern today then Oliver might have a chance for the 2nd leg!!
DeleteReally low profile match for Undiano.
ReplyDelete1st leg was Mazic so probably the Committee evaluated the clash as a relatively important one??
DeleteNot great performance by De Sousa. Possible handball in build up to the goal.
ReplyDeleteAlso, earlier, likely missed foul on Goalkeeper and handball in same action. Luckily, no goal there, because it would be controversial at least.
All important decisions were mistakes. Besides situations you mentioned, he almost did not have any job.
DeleteThere was a faul on the player who played later with the hand so i think Sousa gave advantage.
DeleteBusier Sousa in 2nd half,5 bookings and Zvezda players are not happy with his criterium.
DeleteThe thing is that mistake from the ref lead to deciding goal.
DeleteThats more like AR1, 4th offical mistake than Sousa coz he didnt even saw it..
DeleteMissed offide in 50' min by AR2
ReplyDeleteVery good NO FLAG by AR2 before Lokomotiv goal.
ReplyDeleteA few minutes later, Balotelli was booked for reckless challenge, I think it was a SFP. Studs up hitting the opponent close to ankle. The player was frustrated because before Lokomotiv's goal, Nice had hit twice the crossbar.
Free kick to Nice just before the end of first half: Balotelli was stil nervous and he wanted Královec to move the wall. Referee didn't want to hear him.
DeletePossible deliberate handball on the wall, shot was deflected and thn saved by keeper.
Some interesting situations in this first half.
First half by Taylor in Leipzig - Napoli: expected level.
ReplyDeleteHe issued two YC having a strict application of LotG. In both situations, another referee could have whistled without issuing a card. The first was for reckless use of arm while jumping and the second for a late challenge.
Very good performance so far by AR1: some offside calls, all correct decisions, the most important one in 28', denying an OGSO (player had hit the post). Well done so far by English team in a not so difficult game.
https://streamable.com/4asjp
ReplyDelete1-1 by Astana in Lisbon, offside missed by AR. I would dare even to say that this was stuff for AAR, indeed he could be sure of the offside, given the position of attacker.
He impeded goalkeeper in his movement at the moment of the shot and then he also obstructed his view.
Missed teamwork in Bognár's team.
This was not easy to detect but at the same time expected and not that difficult at this level.
01:50 Leipzig - Napoli in second half quite blatant mistake by AR2 and Taylor, on a long ball, a defender from Lepzig made a deliberate play by raising his leg and hitting the ball. This annulled the offside position reported by AR1, but Taylor, despite of a frontal view, whistled for offside. An OGSO was denied. Video will follow.
ReplyDeleteIs it a crucial mistake? Or -0.1/–0.2?
DeleteNot a crucial mistake but definitely you expect more from an Elite referee there. Taylor was OK for the rest of the game, but this missed cooperation with AR was not a good presentation ticket in his first game as Elite referee.
DeleteHonestly speaking at present he is maybe No. 3 in England... That's really if you closely see his performances week after week... Taylor won't ever be a Howard Webb and not even a Clattenburg that's for sure!!
DeleteI disagree. And surely does PGMOL. Taylor with 2 top clashes the last month. Surely weak performances wouldn't give him such appointments.
DeleteEven Jonathan Moss and Andre Marriner gets big games but that doesn't mean they are ranked above Atkinson or Oliver... All big games can't be handled by Atkinson alone... And I'm absolutely sure Taylor is PGMOL's number 3 currently!! And a small look through the palmares of English refs will tell who is the brighter prospect for the future and we all know who that is!!
DeleteBrighter prospect...
DeleteSuch a subjective approach. Oliver is too immature and has a huge problem with penalty area decisions. It is proved many times until now.
His age is on his side and that's why he took a 2nd chance by UEFA (noone can deny that). Another obvious example being Kuipers. Not many other referee got such a chance.
Agreed fully, in my opinion Pawson will go furthest of the current English referees. The most sophisticated personality despite his reasonably tender age, he is shown he is able to handle top clashes in PL this year (despite some crudités).
DeleteSome referees like Kristinn Jakobsson et al, never even got this one chance...
77' 2nd YC and sent off Jaume Costa (Villarreal) for dissent.
ReplyDelete83' Excellent no-flag by Banti's AR2, Lyon scores.
ReplyDeletehttps://streamable.com/txogl
ReplyDeleteOffside issue in Leizpig - Napoli: very important point for improvement for Anthony Taylor.
Not good for media. Controversy when it happened with Moss and they didn’t call offside and now Taylor calls offside with his AR for a very easy non-offside case.
DeleteThe game in London is turning interesting for Kružliak. Definitely a good thing for the Slovakian, he can be more challenged making a very important experience there.
ReplyDeleteCommentary reports a good performance by Kruzliak, but it wasn't that hot on the pitch.
DeleteVincic was very good in the first half. Two very brave yellow cards for dissent of Lazio players in 30' and 33'. He didn't hesitate even for one second. At the second YC, he immediately awarded an IDFK. Something refreshing to see.
ReplyDeleteOne can say his attitude is too aggressive and confrontational when he spots an unsporting behaviour (remember yellow cards for dive in U-21 EURO). It's his style and it seems it's accepted by powers-to-be.
In the second half, FCSB had two penalty appeals rejected by Slovenian. Immediately after the second one, Lazio launched their counterattack and scored. In both cases penalties could've been given, imo, but being a referee observer I would have had a big dillemma to classify them as clear important mistakes.
Apart from that, the only FCSB's goal has been scored with hand.
Maybe too relaxed Vincic in the second half?
So 8.0/8.1 in front of Fandel then... Not a great case for promotion made in that case!!
DeleteWhy 8.0/8.1? I read it as 8.4.
DeleteOne goal scored with the hand and 2 questionable penalties... No marks will be deducted??
DeleteNo, not always. If the goal scored with the hand is no handball, and the questionable situations are backed, there will be no deduction. Why lower a grade, if a decision is backed? And in case they are not, it would be 7.9 (or even 7.4), not 8.0.
DeleteKarasev having a challenging match... Real Sociedad player Navas sent off for a second bookable offence and only a minute later penalty awarded to Salzburg... What a game!!
ReplyDeleteI thought he had a very good game and managed a challenging game really well... I want to see him in a good UCL R16 return leg match like Manchester United v Sevilla!!
DeleteMaybe missed booking from Karasev for that penalty?
DeleteI don't think so. Maybe SPA, definitely not DOGSO, the attempt to play the ball (inside the PA), so no YC necessary for my taste.
DeleteManzano had match in Bergamo fully under control.
ReplyDelete5 bookings,1 for SPA,2 for time wasting,1 for Dortmund player kicking the ball and 1 debatable, maybe wrongly judged was for Hateboer in 66 min.

FCSB's handball goal - deliberate?
https://streamable.com/bb92y
Referee is supportable in both penalty appeals in my opinion. There are some arguments in favor of a whistle, but the same for the contrary decision.
DeleteAbout the first clip: very strict approach by Vinčić, it is rare to see a referee stopping the game to book a player for dissent. Very well done. Here in Italy our players are not accustomed to that because most of the referees are lenient regarding such situations. I must be honest.
Excellent decision to wait before whistling foul before 5-0 by Lazio, in case of advantage gesture, he couldn't have recalled the foul.
Finally, about the goal by FCSB, here in Italy we come to a conclusion: all goals scored by hand or arm are disallowed for "common sense". Even though situations on the pitch are fully supportable by book, there is this trend. But of course in that case we can't see any evidence or clear gesture by the player in order to commit a deliberate act, so the Slovenian will be surely backed again.
Based on these incidents, I would say that he did well in front of a committee member. He will surely get another game, maybe EL Quarterfinal.
Quarterfinal or Round of 16?? To be honest I don't expect any First Group official in a QF match !!
DeleteSorry, I meant the next round. Yes, round of 16.
DeletePerfect no PK calls.
DeletePerfect advantage prior to 5-0, although I did not feel the ref was going to show to PK in case the goal was not scored.
But, at this level, the referee must not stop promising attack in order to give YC. He should have waited for the play to be stopped and only then show the YC.
Let's begin our predictions for Europa League Round of 16 matches !! :)

Europa League
ReplyDeleteRound of Sixteen Draw
Lazio v Dynamo Kyiv
Leipzig v Zenit
Atlético v Lokomotiv Moskva
CSKA Moskva v Lyon
Marseille v Athletic
Sporting CP v Plzeň
Dortmund v Salzburg
Milan v Arsenal
I think we will see two Elite referees in Milan - Arsenal.
DeleteCakir in Milan and Brych in London... And if Kuipers gets fit then it might be a good match to get him in!!
DeleteFor Michael Oliver I would predict CSKA Moscow v Lyon or Marseille v Athletic Bilbao 🤔 Would it be good?
DeleteMarseille - Athletic Bilbao would be a very good assignment for Oliver, a French-Spanish duel...
DeleteAgreed... The new Elites must be tested in such kinds of matches
DeleteMy predictions:
DeleteLazio v Dynamo Kyiv: Oliver / Zwayer
Leipzig v Zenit: Vincic / Buquet
Atlético v Lokomotiv Moskva: Bastien / Orsato
CSKA Moskva v Lyon: Kralovec / Cakir
Marseille v Athletic: Jug / de Sousa
Sporting CP v Plzeň: Kruzliak / Undiano
Dortmund v Salzburg: Hategan / Eriksson
Milan v Arsenal: Aytekin / Turpin
(assuming Atkinson & Kuipers not available and Borbalan, Skomina, Mazic, Makkelie, Taylor, Marciniak, Mateu & Karasev in CL)
Kruzliak probably not possible with Plzen, so I take Kulbakov instead.
DeleteI have a feeling that Mateu Lahoz could be appointed for the next CL matchday. On Monday March 5th, De Burgos is appointed with Yuste Jiménez in LaLiga, which is somehow strange as he is usually appointed with Díaz Pérez del Palomar when available, who just happens to be Mateu Lahoz AR2. Moreover, Yuste Jiménez has been Undiano's AR2 for some time now, so that would rule him out. That leaves also the possibility of seeing Fernández Borbalán, but then there would have been no impediment for Díaz Pérez del Palomar to be with De Burgos.
ReplyDeleteSo, all in all, I think Mateu Lahoz could have been appointed for either March 6th or March 7th, and, considering his recent appointments, it could be Tottenham - Juventus. Of course, this is only a prediction and not information.
For Mateu Lahoz in Champions League Tottenham - Juventus or Roma - Shakhtar. I think no other options, because the other games without Spanish teams are already decided. So, if he is not appointed in La Liga on next week, he can definitely get the match in Wembley.

ReplyDeleteAs per information given by the KNVB, I can confirm that Björn Kuipers had a groin injury which is presumably fine now... They maintain it was a minor injury and with the World Cup approaching they want him to be absolutely 100% before getting him to referee a match!!
Thanks, a good news.
DeleteChefren, is a groin injury usually anything serious??
DeleteI'm not so expert about that, but of course it depends on the severity of the injury. If there aren't complications, a month is enough to recover. Then, after this time you can be back in training and officiating games. So I guess Kuipers has already spent his "recovery time" and now he is maybe back to training. On next weeks we could see him in Eredivisie. I hope he can get a game in EL soon, maybe possible for Round of 16 second legs (15/03)?
DeleteLet's see... One thing that we can be sure is that with the World Cup so close Kuipers should be absolutely 100% fit before he gets a game!!

Michael Oliver with a fine performance in a not too difficult Leicester City v Stoke City... Next up in action will be Anthony Taylor in Watford v Everton!!
DeleteAnthony Taylor too with a fine performance in an easy game!!
DeleteIt would be nice to hear your opinion on the matches tomorrow, especially Atkinson and Pawson :-).
DeleteI'll be watching both games so I'll definitely share my thoughts here :)
DeleteAtkinson had a good games as well... Little doubts about one potential RC situation but referee can be backed there... Okay performance overall in a not very tough game!!
DeleteCraig Pawson had a fine performance in the League Cup final with no major controversies!!
DeleteFully agreed here
DeleteMaybe Ramsey could have been sent off, but no one wanted a RC there and YC sufficed IMO. No foul before 1-0 was clear. VAR was without problems.
Regards
I wonder who will referee Manchester City v Chelsea game in PL next week... I will predict Michael Oliver
DeleteIf anybody is interested in keeping an eye in Alberola Rojas, he is the man in the middle right now in Barcelona (1) - (1) Girona.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. Suárez was desperately looking for the YC in the final minutes so he could miss Las Palmas-Barcelona (because next one is against Atlético), but referee Alberola Rojas, who already knew it, decided not to applicate LOTG and didn't show any YC to him in 3 very clear actions.
ReplyDeleteYour thoughts?
Alba and Suarez was trying to get YC so they could clear cards. Alba got it but referee knew in that point what Suarez was doing so he didnt gave him YC.
DeleteIntelligent refereeing... I appreciate it in this case!!
DeleteI disagree. Suarez started to want to hurt the opponents just to get a card. A referee can't just ignore that because he knows why Suarez did it. The proper way is for the referee to follow the book and then the federation punishing Suarez and Alba after the game for their shameful display.
DeleteYour opinion on this situation:
ReplyDeleteDo you think the touch is enough for a penalty? (Ref: Verissimo - Fifa)
https://www.vsports.pt/vod/42244/m/361972/vsports/f7bb38aee142ca30e5326ef21667cb0d
Situation is not clear, in my opinion supportable to play on.
DeletePK - the attacker was tripped from the back.
DeleteInter - Benevento.
ReplyDeleteMissed penalty (No VAR intervention):
https://streamable.com/5jddp
Missed SFP (mostly VAR's fault, this was difficult to spot for the referee):
https://streamable.com/xta7c
In addition, referee had a very poor disciplinary control, with wrong YC issued and other missed ones.
In Italy VAR is going weird during last weeks. Of course, it doesn’t depend on the technology itself but mostly on referees’ decisions.
DeleteAn absurd penalty has just been awarded to Lazio after a review for a handball (the ball hit the hip of a player and then bounced on the hand). Manganiello now has lost control of the game, despite some good performances so far.
This is not the first time that handballs are misjudged. There’s still lot of work to do but something has to be changed: I’d suggest that VAR doesn’t intervene for handballs unless that are relevant for a goal scoring.
What do you think about it @Chefren?
DeleteI fully agre with you. Sassuolo - Lazio was another very difficult game for the referee, Manganiello.
DeleteI think VAR was not allowed to intervene there because it wasn't a clear mistake by referee. In my opinion not even a punishable handball. In any case, what I don't like is this trend by some referees to use VAR as personal tool for rewatching some missed or wrongly assessed incidents, but they should also consider: was it an obvious mistake? In this case, it wasn't. We have big issues already from the beginning of this season in serie A with deliberate handballs. It is the most difficult topic to discuss, I of course admit that it is impossible to find consistency, but we see too many weird and absurd calls.
Some referees use it, other referees are reluctant.
About Sassuolo - Lazio, there were also other incidents, as reported, including a straight RC for VC, and another straight RC for SFP (in this case VAR had to intervene, because referee had missed it). Very challenging game but surely control was lost already at the end of first half. Sassuolo players didn't accept the officiating at all.
Missed PK.
DeleteNot a SFP from my point of view. It was studs up, high on the calf muscle, but no intensity. But YC is a must.
The new adidas ref 18 short sleeve shirts look terrible with the communication device under the sleeve. Adidas maybe didn’t think of what does the referees need the most
ReplyDeleteSituation discussed above, but did anyone see Paços de Ferrera - Benfica led by Fabio Veríssimo in full?
ReplyDeleteIt looked like a very challenging game for the Portuguese Second Category.
I saw. It was a difficult game.
ReplyDeleteVerissimo is in the third category UEFA. He has many mistakes in his games.
Apologies, I remember him at U17 EURO and guessed he ascended to Second. Thanks for the comment.
DeleteOT :
ReplyDeleteChefren, KNVB just notified me on Twitter that Kuipers will be rested for two more Eredivisie matchdays to return to 100% fitness and the next week to that he will most probably return... That's the news I have for now!!
Thanks, so surely out for all European cups until 15/03.
DeleteI think we will see him in Europa League quarterfinal, planned for April but that's not important. Most important thing is that he will recover and then he will attend WC.
Yes getting fit and ready for the World Cup must be the biggest aim currently... I hope he can be back to training soon!!

ATALANTA JUVENTUS: FABBRI (NO FIFA referee - IV: Massa - VAR Damato)
MILAN - LAZIO: ROCCHI (IV Tagliavento - VAR: Irrati)
very good achievement for Fabbri; promising referee
Fabbri is gaining a big credit with Rizzoli. He is surely planned for becoming FIFA referee and so far he is absolutely managing and deserving that. If nothing different will happen, he will surely be nominated on December.
DeleteMassa will referee Cup Final...

11 bookings were shown by Bastien in Le Classique, match between PSG and Marseille.
ReplyDeleteWas game really that violent, was Bastien good in that match?
Viktor Kassai with such a big game?? And that too involving Real Madrid?? Never in a million years IMO
ReplyDeleteMaybe just a hope by Márk Szántó but indeed it looks impossible. :)

ReplyDeleteI hope Milorad Mazic for PSG-REAL
WoulD be okay :D
DeleteKuipers is back in the Eredivisie with the game Vitesse - Ajax.
ReplyDeleteVitesse- Ajax
Referee: Bjorn Kuipers
AR: Sander van Roekel and Erwin Zeinstra
4O: Clay Ruperti
Well, KNVB just surprised me on Twitter notifying about this appointment and also literally congratulated me there... A day or two before they told me he might be rested for two more Matchdays and now this excellent news... I couldn't have been happier... So Kuipers will definitely get at least an EL match next round and even CL isn't impossible... Tottenham v Juventus or Roma v Shakhtar anyone??
DeleteIn my opinion better to see him in Europa League for a game before a CL assignment. I think he will surely get a round of 16.
DeleteYes EL Round of 16 and then a CL QF would be the best I think!!
DeleteAgreed, like Lannoy did (very well) in 2012/13.
DeleteArsenal v Milan for Kuipers then??
DeleteMárk Szántó loves his countryman :D
ReplyDeleteAnd he loves "predection" and "Makkeile". ;-))
ReplyDeleteFrom this I remember one of our old friends in the blog who loved "Makkelele" a lot :D Such lovely old memories of The 3rd team blog :D
ReplyDeleteMárk Szántó no need to delete your comment :) it sounds as you are angry for our words :)
ReplyDeleteReally sorry if my words unknowingly offended Mark :)
ReplyDelete14/03
ReplyDeleteBeşiktaş JK - Bayern München
Observer: Manuel Díaz Vega (ESP)
Anthony Taylor or Michael Oliver must be shoe-in for this game... I prefer the later but based on experience probably Taylor would make UCL KO debut first!!
DeleteWe never refuted your opinion :) We just shared our views on the predictions you mentioned... If views aren't shared then what will be the utility of the blog? :) As for the English I never brought anything into question so don't be angry :)
ReplyDelete@Márk Szántó: You are fully entitled to have and write your personal opinion on the blog. Nobody will never deny that, I would fight in order to assure freedom to all readers. But once you write, of course you have also to accept the different opinions, as Soham pointed out, we are here just to share our different views, you don't have to feel an answer as personal attack against you.
ReplyDeleteYou wish that Kassai could get a game, good, in my opinion he wont get a game. But that's not a problem for us. Instead of deleting your comment (but of course you are entitled to do what you want), it would be better, in my opinion, to answer and then also to argue about the other opinions. That's all. But I'm really sad if you feel that you are not free on this blog.
About the English, never a problem. Don't worry.

Great tribute. Maybe I'm in minority here, but I liked him as a referee, to be fair.
DeleteSeems only viewable, when logged in to VK. I can watch the Stark video though - can you maybe change some settings?
DeleteI think maybe VK have changed their policy.
DeleteI'll upload it also on OK.ru also, that should be up by tomorrow.

DeleteWonderfully put forward by Chefren... When one of us shares an opinion it's most likely that not all members will agree and will have a different point of view and that gives rise to informative discussions in any public forum... Healthy dicussions and debates are what makes that makes this blog so lively :) We never disrespect your view but we just share various ideas in the particular context... Also as Chefren said, the English is never an issue... I myself come from an Asian country where about 60% of the population don't speak English and we are more comfortable with our regional languages... I'm sure Peter also didn't mean to hurt you in any way but if he did so unknowingly we apologise on behalf of him from this blog :) I hope we will have lots of discussions on various aspects of refereeing in the coming days... Cheers :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a game for Daniel Stefański today! Legia Warszawa (45 pts, 2nd place) vs Jagiellonia Białystok (45 pts, 1st place).
ReplyDelete09' - YC Vešović (LEG), imo it should've been a RC for SFP, no VAR intervention
https://streamable.com/gkqvq
12' - YC Antolić (LEG) changed after on-field-review to RC for SFP
https://streamable.com/w5ta1
18' - goal disallowed after on-field-review; extremely difficult situation, but VAR was correct - there was an offside position of JAG #26 and it was JAG #11 who last touched the ball
https://streamable.com/urymg
43' - penalty call
https://streamable.com/agg02
90+2' - 2nd YC Vešović (LEG) for SPA

Always enjoy watching clips. Thanks for taking the time to make these RayHD, you should do them more often if possible.
DeleteYou can follow me on Twitter. I watch mostly Polish Ekstraklasa and UEFA games. I just don't post all clips from Poland here, because I think not many users would be interested to watch them! :)

We all would be interested :) Referee education has no barriers... Any football match of any league may teach us lots of new interesting things related to refereeing... That's the beauty of referee education :)
DeleteJust clicked to follow you on twitter :)
DeleteMissed RC for SFP
Correct change of decision after VAR consultations
Disallowed goal - to me it seems no offside... of course, the VAR has more cameras and angle views, but I am pretty sure there was no offside
Penalty kick - correct
2nd YC - correct call
Thanks, Shearer. In this tweet I explain where exactly the offside occurred. There was an on-field review because Daniel Stefański had to check whether JAG #26 challenged an opponent for the ball.
Deletehttps://twitter.com/h_demboveac/status/968591754646773764
Poor observation from my end, you were totally right, offside.
DeleteThanks
9' in my opinion RC for SFP, luckily the player didn't suffer a serious injury but this was a very dangerous challenge, made with excessive force. YC maybe not a very clear mistake, so I think for this reason no VAR intervention, but for me at least 90% RC 10% YC.
Delete12' Clear SFP, correct VAR intervention. Referee couldn't have the exact perception of what replay showed later.
18' This is a paramount example of VAR importance. In this case it was almost impossible on the pitch for both referee and AR to detect and understand the last touch and then to assess the offside position. Well done.
43' Correct penalty, nothing to add there.
90'+2 Given the position where the foul occurred, one could say it wasn't a 100% promising attack, but YC is absolutely justified there, because player showed to be totally disinterested in playing the ball, with the only aim to stop the opponent near the sideline. YC is absolutely appropriate decision there.
Handball incident from yesterday's Espanyol - Real Madrid (José María Sánchez Martínez - UEFA 2nd Group)
ReplyDeletehttps://streamable.com/fxff1
I would go for PK - defender enlarged his body volume, mada a typical goalkeeper save
DeleteThese situations are always difficult to assess. Yesterday we had a similar case in a serie B game: player on the ground and touch by arm / hand in that position. Referee whistled penalty.
DeleteI think that both decisions are supportable there, because there aren't specific criteria. If in the opinion of the referee, player increased his body's volume or tried to block the ball, then penalty should be whistled.
But mostly in my opinion these kinds of touch are not intentional, you punish them because the action looks always like a save. Nobody can question...
Direction in US and Canada over the last year (or so) has been to penalize this with the logic that once you make that last resort slide, you've opened yourself up for this, and if the ball contacts your arm (similar to the play above), then... too bad. Handling.
DeleteThe same instruction in Poland.
DeleteAccording to the laws of the game it is not deliberate. But I think the wording should be changed. Because we have seen thousands of handling called when arms are in unnatural position for example but still not deliberate.
ReplyDeleteGirona - Celta Vigo (Daniel Jesús Trujillo Suárez)
ReplyDelete63' - penalty incident
https://streamable.com/576j7
86' - handball
https://streamable.com/6y7vz
86 according to the laws of the game no handling. It's not deliberate.
Delete63' supportable decision to play on
Delete86' not a deliberate handball, in my opinion, player was just unlucky with the rebound of the ball, I don't see any malice and a penalty call would be more than harsh
Totenham - Rochdale, VAR, disallowed goal from PK
ReplyDeletehttps://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6ffe7v
RC for SFP, excessive force, he was aware that he couldn't reach the ball, it was an action directly on the opponent.
ReplyDeleteI didn't need to watch replays, the live sequence says already everything.
