  2. I like Ramos because I like referees with long sleeved outfits :D

Anybody knows why he goes like that? Can be very uncomfortable in sunny and hot days. I think Clattenburg did it because of tattoos.

    1. Maybe he got tattoos so he is hiding them. Like Clatenburg was doing after euro..

    2. For as long as I've followed his career in Mexico. I am not aware of him having any arm tattoos. If you do a Google Images search on him. You'll find more images of him in long sleeve kits that in short sleeved kits.

    3. I don't think so. Here is a photo of Ramos posing with a 2018 FIFA badge (so, I guess it's a photo of this year) and doesn't seem to have any tattoo on his arm. And in 2017 Club WC he used long sleeves.

    4. Maybe it's just a personal preference... I also prefer long sleeves even though temperatures rise as high as 40°C over here and I have no tattoos! :D

    5. Bas Nijhuis also always Wearing long sleeves. He has no tattoos but he like it.

      Delete
    6. David Beckham always wore a long sleeve kit also.

    7. As a referee, I feel uncomfortable in long sleeves. You don‘t feel 'free' ;-) There are also referees who prefer short sleeves. Felix Zwayer, for instance never wears long sleeve kits,

      Delete
    8. The lenght of sleeves depends on the weather conditions for me. However a few of my fellow local referee's will wear long sleeve kits even in the summer when it's 40+ degrees. Their reasoning is to protect their skin.

      Delete
    9. Some referees have really strong preferences either way. In MLS, Kevin Stott ALWAYS wears long sleeves, no matter what. And Hilario Grajeda ALWAYS wears short sleeves, even when he did a game that was 19 degrees farenheit (-7C).

I know I've seen Ramos in short sleeves during CONCACAF Champions League games, but that was a few years ago so maybe he has newfound preferences.

      Delete
    10. The kits that CONCACF issues it's referee's for confederation competitions are only short sleeved. Ricardo Montero (CRC) was visibly wearing a similar colored long sleeved t-shirt underneath his ref jersey. In the 1st Leg of the CONCACAF Champions League Final.

  3. Long sleeved black kits for the referee crew. Classic, sleek and sharp look!

Best of luck to my fellow countryman.

    7. I like these shoes a lot. http://officialsports.com/1711-diadora-referee-tf-shoe/

The only issue I find with them is that when you're on a muddy grass field, you lose your grip rather easily and can start sliding all over the place (because the soles fill up packed with mud). I need to get myself a nice pair of shoes with molded cleats to wear for those kinds of games.

  12. Nice theatrical performance by Suarez pretending the headache of his life after he got a hit against his - shoulder.

As it happened in Ramos previous games, he ignored it.
FIFA guidelines... referee's style? But OK, if this is the trend...

  15. Ramos‘ has a very natural style. Not only the clothing but also the way he talks with the players.

    1. No need for extra gestures, gesticulations, or animated movements. Yet his calm relaxed approach instills a sense of security and acceptance from the players. A total opposite of somebody like Mateu Lahoz.

    2. Agree Sheriff. Excellent control of his body language and gestures. You can also see on face that he is focused but also relaxed. He listens to players and, if necessary, communicates in a respectful way. To me, the complete opposite of Roldán.

  16. Whistles 2sec late all the time. This annoys players.

  17. Why is he allowing cynical tackles to go without YC's?

    2. It is so funny... no contact with his head at all.

      Delete
    3. https://www.clippituser.tv/c/lnwraa

Clearly no head contact. AR and referee clearly saw no issue at all here and allowed play to continue appropriately.

  21. Suarez is just a shameful player

    ReplyDelete
  22. And the next performance by Suarez. Good decision by Ramos to.play on!

    ReplyDelete
  23. OMG what a hit in Suarez's head!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Unacceptable handling of the Suarez injury at 44’. Play had to be stopped, and the AR had to inform the referee as it was right in front of him.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think that both Referee and AR saw that it was NOT any head contact, and thus allowed play to continue.

      Delete
    2. For what reason? There was no injury but a great show and simulation.

      Delete
    3. It was nothing but act from Suarez

      Delete
    4. Did you even see what happened? Clear simulation. No contact with the head at all.

      Delete
    5. I see a possible contact to the neck, but that doesn’t matter. The referee *must* stop play if there’s a possible head injury. If he is certain that there is simulation, give a caution. But referees are wrong, sometimes, and we cannot afford any risk-taking with head injuries. The laws are clear on this.

      Delete
    6. To clarify: what I see doesn’t matter. Even if the referee didn’t see a contact, he should stop play if there’s a possibility of a head injury, even if he didn’t see the contact.

      Delete
    7. To clarify further (as noted above and elsewhere):

The Referee and AR (or some combination of such) obviously saw that it was NOT any head contact, noted that it was simulation, and thus allowed play to continue.

      Delete
    8. Uhm, apart from the fact that Suarez wasn’t hit at the head and makes things look worse than what actually happened, we cannot deny him being fouled by a jump in the back can we?

      Delete
    9. Refs don’t give yellow cards for simulation in the WC that’s why play continued

      Delete
    10. The fact that referees are not willing to apply the laws properly does not allow them to skip their duties on player safety.

      Delete
    11. There was no safety issue that’s what everyone is saying except you. No injury. All fake. Susrez is a bug liar nothing else.

      Delete
  25. He gets hit in the back and holds his head.

  29. Let‘s be honest. Ramos simply refuses to show cards. Clear SPA in 57‘.

  33. Ramos knows this is his last game in thisWC so he does not want to be scapegoat for either team. Smart for him awful for the game and refereeing

  34. I have never seen so many referees in the same tournament loosing their Fifa badges during the match. AR2 has lost his in this match. It seems like there is some problems with their jerseys.

    1. They're not allow to stitch them on apparently, so are using tape, and the new 2018 adidas shirt isn't so sticky for the tape often used.

    2. Nothing that a bit of velcro wouldn't be able to fix. However Adidas kits even though they are ridiculously expensive, don't have a velcro patch pre sewn on the shirt.
He in the US, the brand Official Sports has a velcro patch sewn on left breast pocket.

    3. Who are the refs or ARs in this tournament who lost their badge during matches? :D

  35. Missed IFK against Uruguay because of floor-playing.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Floor-playing?

Pray tell... what's the offence for "floor-playing"?

      Delete
  36. Ramos is my fellow countryman and I hate the fact that he's employing this overly lenient approach. And approach that would get him sent to the bench for a few weekends in Mexico.

But I must continuously remind myself that this is exactly what Busacca and PLC want. And how the Ref Comm directs and instructs the referee's to handle matches. The Ref Comm seems to care more about keeping all the players eligible to play and thus The Laws of the Game become secondary.

  37. Missed foul on Muslera by Bernardo Silva

    1. A free kick was given there -- The replay showed that he had begun pointing to the point of offence before the shot was taken.

    2. No, the replay shows that the referee put the whistle in his mouth, but did not whistle and instead pointed for a goal kick. Play was resumed with a goal kick.

  38. He's forgetten his cards at home! I can count numerous of incidents needed YC. And missed fouls. He's some problems with 12. Rule. Physical appearance is very important but the referee must know spirit of the game. Must smell. I must say that he looks like nervous

    ReplyDelete
  39. As I said for Mazic, I must be consistent and I must repeat it for Ramos: I don't like this style to avoid cards in all situations and I strongly disagree. However, if FIFA wants that and the only concern is to keep control and avoid crucial mistakes, the performance has been very good so far.
Question of points of view, I wouldn't be satisfied, this performance at UEFA level would be marked below (by far) expected level.
In all this scenario, I really would like to hear the opinion of Collina, who at the same time prepares and wants perfect UEFA referees, then in FIFA he allows that without problem. :)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I don't think Collina wants this extreme level of lineancy... There is a middle line that referees can adopt but that doesn't mean they have to go careless throughout the match by hook or by crook! That's just some referees overdoing the instructions!

      Delete
  40. IMO Ramos is exactly doing what the Committee ask for. And honestly I am impresse how he handle this game without cards so far. (Yeah in principle he supposed to give 2-3 cards) But full control of the game still. Good first day for referees in the KO-stage.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Impressed? What's easier than not pull any cards? ^^

      Delete
    4. Oh yeah right! It's Ronaldo who was booked, not Quaresma!

      Delete
  44. Clear red to Quaresma. Completely unscceptable behaviour.

    1. In the rest of the world in any other football competition. Yes. But at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Where a Swiss by the name Busacca and an Italian by the name Collina run the show. Unfortunately it's not even deserving of a caution.

      Delete
    2. Not necessarily Collina has asked not to give such obvious YCs... Ramos had to penalise that and it's his mistake! Ultra-lineant approach were only shown by Irmatov, Mazic and Ramos till now! All others found a proper middle line!

      Delete
    3. I know that’s how it works but I am basing my comment on the laws of the game not on what FIFA wants.

      Delete
    4. And yet when we look at todays matches. It wasn't Ramos who had a mass confrontation. Even with his lenient approach. Again not a fan at all. But he excelled in what he's been instructed to do based on the guidance he's received.

    1. Worthy of another match overall?? Not this time, I think!

      Delete
  47. Well, the protests by both Cristiano Ronaldo and Quaresma were the cnsequence of the lenient style, he had to book both players. Or maybe to send off Quaresma, he was very aggressive. Again, I will never like this style, it can't work for my idea of football. Sorry, nothing against Ramos.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I really like this style, only thing i didnt like is that he always waits for few seconds before whistling foul

      Delete
    2. It was a big match for Ramos and he didn't want to disappoint either teams... But I agree not a greatly polished display by him overall and not great disciplinary control... Anyway Ramos is very young still, has many years left at the FIFA level and of course he will learn from these big match experiences!

      Delete
    3. I think it was not the result of lenient approach. It was simply frustration in the end of the game because of the result. I think we are on expected level and nobody will talk about Ramos after this game. Though minimum a YC but preferebly a red was deserved to Quaresma.

      Delete
    4. My only issue with this caution was the lack of one for Suarez about 5-10 minutes earlier when the ball was taken off him cleanly (from behind) and he ran after Ramos remonstrating.

      Delete
  48. Bad Ronaldo, who ruined his no YC goal. How Quaresma walks away without one is a mystery to me.

I don't know how much of that is on Ramos or on his instructions. But at least for me, this is not the way to referee. Chefren said it way better than me.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Why is my comment deleted, can't I express my opinion that I think it was shameful performance?? Just my opinion..

    ReplyDelete
  50. I cannot understand why everyone is so negative. Of course he could/should have showed 1 or 2 yellow cards more but in the end the game was full under control without any crucial mistakes!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Because there is much more to refereeing than only crucial mistakes! Of course Ramos was good but some further polishing can be definitely done!

      Delete
    2. Because millions are watching the biggest players in the world not getting obvious yellow cards and then they think it’s okay to do wjat they do at lower level. And when refs at lower level give yellow for those things they will get angry.

      Delete
    3. I agree with both of you, as I said Ramos missed some YC cards. But nobody will talk about the referee tomorrow and that‘s fine. We‘ve seen Brych with a good performance and only one controverse scene. For me the German performed better but after the match he was the main theme in Serbia! So, with this „public“ view, Ramos was better.
But I completely agree with you. This too lenient approach can‘t give a good image to lower league football.

      Delete
  51. All in all no mass confrontation or catastrophe due to the the responsibility of the players not crossing even the "last line", after a nervous ref feeling uncomfortable with his own laissez-faire style had allowed them everything and not set any frontiers. Bad positioning and very bad body language. Good physics, acceptable communication, but warnings without consequences being ignored by the players, acceptable foul detection. Challenging match. At least 4 mandatory YC missed. 7.7

  54. Very strong performance regarding communication, body language, personality, physical appearance. Positioning: much too often too close, has to run away ”in half-panic” to avoid colliding with ball/players. Had several opportunities to hand out YCs but was too lenient. In control. No big controversies. Nice to see how respectful Ronaldo was after the game when shaking Ramos’s hand.

  55. Everybody and his mother is talking about the way too lenient approach and the bad positioning: in general terms I would 100% agree, but after 50 matches it looks to me as if this 'way too lenient approach' has been a fil rouge to connect most of the WC way of refereeing so far... and it cannot be a coincidence, PLC must have instructed referees accordingly IMO.
If that is true, what is left is mostly his bad positioning especially when a team is attacking and the other is parking the bus. From time to time that was so evident that it was noticed even by the people I was watching the game with, who never look at the referee.
In the end not a bad performance at all, nonetheless I would be surprised to see Ramos again this WC.

GET OUT OF FINANCIAL MESS WITH THE HELP OF drbenjaminfinance@gmail.com

I have been in financial mess for the past months, I’m a single mum with kids to look after. My name is REBECCA MICHAELSON, and am from Ridley Park, Pennsylvania. A couple of weeks ago My friend visited me and along our discussion she told me about DR BENJAMIN OWEN FINANCE of drbenjaminfinance@gmail.com that he can help me out of my financial situation, I never believed cause I have spend so much money on different loan lenders who did nothing other than running away with my money. She advised, I gave it a try because she and some of her colleagues were rescued too by this Godsent lender with loans to revive their dying businesses and paying off bills. so I mailed him and explain all about my financial situation and therefore took me through the loan process which was very brief and easy. After that my loan application worth $278,000.00USD was granted, all i did was to follow the processing and be cooperative and today I am a proud business owner sharing the testimony of God-sent Lender. You can as well reach him through the Company Email drbenjaminfinance@gmail.com
