Second game already for Balakin, while his higher-ranked countrymen have none so far. Probably a category update is due there - and obviously Balakin's EL debut.
Frappart also with a second appointment - will be interesting, how she will be used this season also in CL.

Rather weak appointments for First Group members Kehlet and Verissimo.

More experienced VARs used this time with Aranovsky the only debut, I think.

Taylor with the biggest one in this set.

Balakin, Kehlet and Kuĺbakoŭ for potentially hot games. Especially the usually lenient Dane is a very risky choice for Andorra - San Marino. Players of both teams often play in a brutal manner, I remember many SFPs in games involving either Andorra or San Marino.

The Poland - Albania game could be very interesting too. Many injuries in Polish team, journalists are negative about the Portuguese coach and a potential loss or draw will significantly decrease the chances for advance for Poland. It will be interesting how the game will look like and how Mariani will handle it.

Interesting appointment also for Gözübüyük. The first match between these teams involved quite some controversy with some unlucky penalty decisions by Vincic. I'd say it's an important chance for Serdar to show his ability in a higher profile match, maybe with some perspective on becoming the second Dutchman in Elite group?

I don't remember whether VAR is used or not in Denmark, but given the German VARs for Kehlet I would say no? In this case, the game could be exclusively used for allowing Kehlet to make experience with VAR in UEFA competitions, no matter the teams involved.

First 15-20 minutes of POL-ALB were very difficult for Mariani. He decided to only manage the reckless studs challenge by Frankowski POL (2') and some seconds later a reckless tackle by Abrashi ALB followed. Big chaos after this foul and he had to give a card for that. Albanians were very unhappy at this point (4'). And shortly afterwards they became VERY unhappy after another two yellow cards for holding SPAs (7', 11'). Fortunately, the game calmed down later. Many small fouls but nothing major (maybe apart from potential YC for stamp not given to Trashi in 41'). Poland is very lucky to have this 2:1 result now, Albania were playing better after Poland scored for 1:0. We'll see how the second half will go!

Trying an explanation for VAR missed intervention: defeder puts leg, but he doesn't create directly contact with opponent, the contact happens only after a movement by attacker, so in this regard, one can't say how much this contact was sought. I know that it is a harsh reasoning and penalty would be expected decision here, but in my opinion extremely borderline decision, and VAR can have his small arguments. Taylor made gestures and was close, but surely he didn't see that, he rather saw what the other defender did (and in this case of course, never VAR stuff). VAR will never be perfect in such situations, because not 100% objective cases. The very clear situation are when defenders make a movment and they hit drectly opponent, especially on foot. The rest can be discussed, but surely VAR can't be faultless in its application and some pitch decisions must be accepted.
