  1. Good choice to me; I was expecting a step ahead for Saggi and Delajod. I supposed they were assigned to Euro U21. When will officially publish the list of the referee for Euro U21 ?

  3. Since 2018 (Ekberg), only referees from the Big 5 countries have refereed the Youth League final. That's really disappointing: this tournament isn't just a development tournament for youth players, the same applies to referees - the final should be given to someone who could really use this for their development (since their national competition offers them too little opportunities), not someone who officiates teams like Bayern, Liverpool and PSG every other week

  4. ISIDRO DÍAZ DE MERA is one of few refs that impresses me more and more in La Liga.

With only 33 yrs old,he can be next future of Spain but I doubt that will happen, cause his matches tend zo end with plenty bookings and right, why have ref that makes every decision and punishes evry foul like it should be...

His matches are quite like younger Maresca, plenty bookings and hot teams, but almost every his decision is by the book .

I say ,his style reminds me of younger Maresca or in Portugal we have 2 refs that are similar to him,Oliveira and Godinho.

Unthinkable decision at yesterday Alexey Kulbakov's performace at PAOK-AEK ATHENS for the Greece play-offs. In 5th minute of the match the player of the PAOK makes a mistake and gives the ball back to his GK without seeing that the striker of AEK haw followed the phase. But the Belarusian referee whistled something which not the same has understood. Even now whole Greece is wondering what has given in that phase. In addition, that whistle appears intention because he whistled before AEK's player score, with purpose neither VAR (Krogh from Denmark) can interfere to correct that monstrous decision.
However, to be fair he managed very well the whole match, but his decision in the beginning of the match marked his appearance.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It would be interesting to know the exact moment of the whistle, not clear in this video. If he whistled moments before and players continued the action it can be more understandable for some aspects, but still a mistake because phantom foul whistled. If the whistle occurred after the goal, then VAR could have intervened.

      Delete
    2. It is assumed that he whistled before AEK's player score. But nobody (not the same) knows what has whistled. The video includes all the available replays and we don't have other replays from other aspects. But if you notice carefully until the camera lose the referee from the plan he haven't whistled something yet (a foul maybe) and he is running to catch up the phase. Therefore given that we don't have any offside, because the ball returns from PAOK's playerthe only epxlanation is that he had given defensive foul at Gacinovic (AEK's player) in the middle and he didn't olay well the advantage. But the match restarts with the possession at PAOK with a free kick!!!!

      Delete
    3. Anyway, the media in Greece today have publicized that after the end of the match AEK's player asked from the referee the cause of the cancellation and he characteristically moved his shoulders not knowing what to reply, staying silence!

      Delete
    4. Very weird situation, and if indeed the whistle was for offside, the offence happened far away from where the eventual free kick was taken

  17. I note Frappart will lead the team in the Finalissima on Thursday. Interesting to see a very different approach to in the men's competition were a much less experienced name was appointed. I'm concerned about the lack of development in women's officials in a way, where it seems only one name is trusted for everything. After Steinhaus-Webb's retirement it is clear that Frappart is the no.1, but it would be nice to have a more trusted pool to choose from, it's not like there aren't options! Another deserved accolade for Frappart, however

    1. I agree, I would give Monzul and Staubli more chances.
Monzul has had many opportunities (Euro Final/UEL/UECL) but it seems that she has disappeared.
And I have always considered Staubli, after Frappart, the second best referee in Europe.
Only there are no opportunities for her.

    2. Less so Monzul, but I also have rated Staubli highly every time I've seen her, and think she has been unlucky to get so few top top appointments

    3. Disgracefull cards by Massa for Lukaku after his reaction to the racist chants. Then you dont understand it as a referee imo

      Delete
    4. As a non-avid Italian football viewer, maybe someone more familiar could explain if harsh yellows for any gesture to the crowd are the norm in Serie A, as to me I'm struggling to understand how you get anywhere near a caution for what Lukaku did assuming it was for something in the celebration. Now I am aware there are some things that seem difficult to understand for folks from other countries when it comes to Italian sanctions for words/gestures (such as the anti-blasphemy suspensions), so maybe there's something odd here? But I really don't understand it and feel greatly for Lukaku

      Delete
    5. The situation should be the following: according to last rumors, it seems as Rocchi has appreciated the officiating by Massa and I must agree, a very good performance at least until last minutes of second half, including the penalty call (possible that this was suggested by either AR1 or FO, you can see the delay in whistling by Massa). Then, coming into your question, we must start from the fact that Massa didn't hear about any racist chant, so for this reason he thought that the celebration of Lukaku was against the home-fans. Indeed the Inter player made the gesture and said "shut up". This, according to book, is identified as provoking celebration, so correct yellow card. There isn't a strict application of this rule in serie A and I must say that if we start from assumption that the racist chants were not heard by referee, the technical decision is just a correct one...
Now Lukaku and Internazionale are complaining about that and we must wait the decisions that will be taken by disciplinary board (very likely tomorrow). In case, it is possible that they will take time to make a deep analysis of what happened on the stands during the game.

  24. IMO very good performance by Martínez Munuera in the Copa del Rey semifinal 2nd leg Clásico today, including a correct PK for Real Madrid. Not faultless, maybe a couple of missed de iure bookings, but probably one of the best performances in recent Clásicos, considering the huge tension.

My general perception of Martínez Munuera is that there's no refereeing 'attribute' (disciplinary, fitness, personality, presence...) in which he's a 10/10, but instead he's a 7/10 or 8/10 in everything

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. In General I agree with your opinion. But there is one thing totally annoing me about him. He needs so much time for couple of Things (don't know whether that was the case yesterday because i could not see the game). For example he sometimes blows the whistle and then about ten seconds later realizes that he needs to Take his Spray or has to communicate with some Players which then also Takes a relatively Long Time itself. Don't know whether you also recognized that but this is often my Feeling when i am watching His games

  27. Rojas again with his usual leniency...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. On the occasion of today usual Rojas's performance in the Osasuna - Real Betis, who do you think are the most lenient referees in the 5 major leagues (England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain). For example, in France I can easily understand that it is Turpin.

      Delete
    2. From Germany, I would say, some of the young ones are most lenient: Reichel, Badstübner, Jöllenbeck, Jablonski
Among the senior ones: Stieler and Hartmann

      Delete
    3. Spain:Rojas

      France:Wattellier imo,Turpin's close,but not like Wattellier...

      England:Hooper,Oliver...

Italy:Doveri and that's not even close, what he allows is sometimes funny to me.

Orsato is also lately very lenient and Sacchi.

      Portugal:Goncalves

Germany:I dont follow that much, but then I have to agree with Philipp S.

Brazil:Goncalves Lima,he is different level, maybe the most lenient ref in the whole world.

Also from same country,Daronco, very lenient ref.

    4. I had a look at the card statistics and based on them one could say.
      Spain:
Least cards: Alberola Rojas (clearly as indicated by M), de Burgos, Pizarro Gomez
Most cards: Muniz Ruiz, Diaz de Mera, Hernandez

      France:
Least cards: Bollengier, Wattelier, Batta (and then Turpin)
      Most cards: Vernice, Pignard, Bastien

      England:
Least cards: Hooper, Gillett, A.Madley (Oliver is on place 6)
      Most cards: Salisbury, Brooks, Bankes

      Italy:
Least cards: Marinelli, Sacchi, Marchetti (among the more prominent ones: Chiffi and Doveri)
      Most cards: Marcenaro, Maresca, Valeri

      Germany:
      Least cards: Reichel, Badstübner, Jöllenbeck
      Most cards: Ittrich, Schröder, Schlager

      All five leagues together:
      Least cards: Hooper, Reichel, Gillett
Least cards among CL referees: Oliver, Stieler, Taylor
Most cards: Marcenaro, Muniz Ruiz, Diaz de Mera
Most cards among CL referees: Hernandez, Gil Manzano, Sanchez
Order among the leagues: England, Germany, France, Italy, Spain

Method: 1 point for YC, 3 points for 2nd YC, 5 points for RC
Average per game for all games in the domestic highest league
Minimum 10 games done in that league

      Delete
    5. Class Philipp on the research.

      Delete
    6. As those were also mentioned
      Portugal
      Least cards: Pinheiro, Almeida, Mota
Most cards: J. Ferreira, Correia, Martins

      Brazil
Least cards: Goncalves Lima, Alves Batista, Schleich
      Most cards: Pombo, Zanovelli, Machado

Ferreira and Correia actually take place 2 and 3 for most cards in all those leagues and Portugal overall has even more cards than Spain, while Brazil ranks between France and Italy.

    2. Mixed feelings....

We see the difference in 1st half and 2nd half.

1st was lenient style, card must be shown when it is a foul that requires card, like Alonso one.

      2nd one was different.

He was like you get a card, you get card, that reminded me of his earlier days in Primera when he had plenty matches with 10plus cards.

And about non penalty in dying minutes.

I will say this;I agree with no penalty.
However,we saw this year penalties being given for far less.

He is not that kind of ref.

These matches should be given given top Italian refs, like Massa,Mariani,Orsato and Maresca(imo not Doveri).

We all remember couple of years ago his performance when Lazio were playing Juve.

He is somehow center of attention whenever ge has these big games.

And to add, tonight's perfromance had so much inconsistencies,no clear line on what is booking and what is not, letting conflicts and not being authoritative enough.

  37. Dutch Cup Final:

    Ajax - PSV (30/4)
Higler - Van Zuilen, Diks - Van der Eijk - Dieperink, Vandeursen

He has previously refereed the Supercup twice (in both cases Ajax - PSV as well) and both times it was nothing short of a disaster, so an interesting choice to appoint him to his first cup final with the same two teams. However, you can't give Makkelie every cup final (he has been quite controversial as well recently, especially regarding Ajax) and Gözübüyük was appointed for the league clash between the two sides, so it was expected to be Higler

However, of the 4 games with Ajax this season, he missed a crystal clear RC against Utrecht, had a very controversial no-penalty decision in the cup game against Twente, had a controversial no SYC in the Classic (which was correct, but still controversial) and probably two missed RC (one for both teams), and against PSV he gave a wrong penalty (revoked after OFR), he really hasn’t been good in games with Ajax, nothing to do with Ajax’s form (the outcome in any of those games probably wouldn’t have changed)

    3. The fouls in the Classico are no RC’s according to UEFA RAP 2023. That’s why VAR did not intervene. And the other incidents: you just literally copy-pasted the rabble-rousing of the Dutch Ajax-minded press (Telegraaf), and they need a LOTG course.

And besides, in none of the games you mentioned, the final result was influenced by the referee or VAR.

    4. I did mention your last part myself, about it not influencing the result. However, the fact that these situations are mentioned in the press (even if it is Ajax-minded press), prove the fact that it was indeed controversial - although it would be too easy to discard those situations by saying they are Ajax-minded, do you honestly think it wasn’t a RC for the incident in Utrecht?

Anyway, Makkelie is still the best Dutch referee right now, his games just haven’t been as convincing as 1/2 years ago (which might be a psychological effect, as back then he had to fight for those games due to Kuipers’ presence, but right now he is the undisputed nr 1, which is a new situation for him to deal with)

    1. Overal good game. Good Penalty detection. Missed only a YC around min 75-80 for either AZ or Hajduk player.

This was the situation where AZ player played the ball (I would agree on giving a foul aswell) and Hajduk player made a harsh tackle seconds after. Would be a YC for me. Combination of the intensity and frustration of not getting a free kick seconds before.

  39. It seems as Massa was attacked by fans after the game he had in Greece. When enough is enough, I invite FIFA and UEFA to take immediate action against Greek federation and their situation of refereeing.

    2. As far as I know, this guy is one of the main reasons why Greek football looks like that. A slimy, all-powerful and very dangerous person.

    1. Since we got many fake news about that in past, I would be still not 100% sure, let's wait. Other sources reported that he didn't want to retire!

    2. It is now more or less official, the sources are pretty solid. Basically, it is a leak from CTA. This also includes Del Cerro Grande, BTW. Mateu Lahoz didn't want to retire, but Medina Cantalejo wants him to leave. According to the news, both of them have been invited to carry on as VAR referees, but Mateu has rejected that offer.

    3. Is it possible for Mateu to continue in other FA like Clattenburg or Mazic? And if that happened, is it also possible for Mateu to continue in UEFA like Faghani in AFC, considered that Mateu is still at good performance? If Mateu retired I think it was huge loss for UEFA consider at the moment UEFA is struggle to find another very trusted referee or the pool of very trusted referee was very light.

    4. I see. One can easily understand why Mateu rejected a VAR role for the future.
Also, I understand the point of Medina Cantalejo, asking him to retire, with Gil Manzano and Sanchez Martinez to become new nr.1 and 2, and a chance for Hernandez Hernandez to get Elite. This should be indeed related to the next update of UEFA categories.
