  1. Maybe the new kits for next season will premiere in the UEFA Women's Euro, given the news last week. Let's see!

    1. I'm sorry, which news are you talking about? I completely missed it 😅

  2. I definitely spend too little time with this forum: Referee Observer Marta Frias Acedo has not caught my attention in connection with high-profile matches and/or referees so far; I would not have expected to read her name at the (Women's) EURO ...

    2. Thank you very much for your special service! ;-) I must admit that I indeed already heard of names like "Stéphanie Frappart", countries like "Belgium" and "Portugal", and clubs like "Bayern München" and "Juventus" before. ;-) However, from briefly skimming through the lists, I was more familiar with observers like Blaženka Logarušić than with this Spanish lady. ;-)

    3. Marta Frías Acedo became #2 of CTA-RFEF section of women's refereeing, it kinda makes sense.

  3. Strong focus on the Hungarian referee since she returned, she has been under close observation by the committee.
Meanwhile, it’s a crucial test for the Romanian, who will be officiating under the eyes of committe member Damkova.
In recent times, the concept of "opening match" in these tournaments has been somewhat changed, traditionally, it should feature the host team, but instead, there is always another match played before it. So, we should consider the Hungarian referee's match as the opener, even if the major spotlight is on the Romanian referee with the host nation. About VAR, one could find particular to see Popa only as AVAR. Given the experience he could have got main VAR duty with referee from same nation.

    1. It’s misguided to not have the host nation be the opening match. It’s takes away the glitz and glamour of the opening ceremonies. Opening day should only feature a single match.

    2. I agree. I don't know why this one changed, in almost all tournaments, in recent times.

    3. Because the male controlled football world doesn’t give the same considerations to the women’s game. In a true misogynistic manner, they’re still viewed as lesser’s.

    4. EURO 2012 had two matches on MD1. WC 2022 was slated to have several on MD1 until a relatively late change. Were those misogynistic decisions?

Also the defending champion, not the host, opened up the men's World Cup tournament through the entire 20th century. Were the first 15 or so men's World Cups misogynistic?

Copa America 2024 opened with Argentina v Canada, rather than with the hosts. I'm sure that was misogynistic and you pointed out as much at the time.

The contemperanouse U21 men's UEFA competition had two matches on the opening day, just like this event. I'm sure that was misogynistic. Or perhaps ageism?

Some people will complain about anything.

On the merits here, if you or anyone else thinks that the Iceland v Finland tie will distract or take away the glitz and glamour from the Switzerland v Norway evening affair, I don't know what to tell you.

  4. Is there an AR at this tournament not previously announced?. Remember seeing a post about the Andorran Fernandez being injured so wonder if anyone has replaced her.

    1. It seems as Paulina Baranowska is missing as well, and I don't see / read other assistant referees replacing them. Would be a courtesy gesture by UEFA and I agree with it, once you select some officials and they are out for inury, it is rather unfair replacing them with other names when tournament is close. But we will see, I don't know for sure.
