  1. Colored socks for the refs?

  2. Wow, a FIFA match with colored socks. Isn't this a first ?

  3. The Outfit today is a deliberate choice by FIFA to "Honour the host City of Miami and his Culture".

    1. Do they have smaller size then XL? Generally speaking, Addidas kits are same like 20 years ago in a terms of model and cut

  4. So far, the kit is the highlight of the game.
Nothing to say in a very boring game so far. Marianni is trying to whistle as less as possible

    1. Bad decision for me at 19’
It’s Uruguay player that commits a fault by not allowing the SA player play the ball

    2. What a boring match…Nothing to say.

    3. Indeed but with a south American team, the game can heat at any moment… Marianni should keep the focus

  5. SPA missed imo,YC needed to be shown.

  6. 36’ : Betancur from Uruguay very lucky not to be booked for his cynical foul.

  7. And now KSA have scored.

Probably challenging match in 2nd half.

  8. 44’: mandatory YC for KSA. Good decision.

  9. Easy first half for Mariani but a YC forgotten to Uruguay.

  10. Hopefully, the thunderstorms come a bit closer, so that Bebek can tell Busacca about them. ;)

  11. Corner missed by Mariani. Weird that VAR Di Bello didn’t correct it.

    1. I'm not watching, but VAR doesn't intervene in missed corners. Only in case of *wrongly-given*. It can turn a corner-kick into a goal-kick, but not vice versa.

  12. Why was the 1 minute injury rule not enforced?

  13. Unbelievable black out by AR1 and yellow / Red card missed by Mariani. Stonewall error by Bindoni. Not possible no intervention in FRONT of him with a very bad gesture by KSA player.

  14. Big YC missed for SA but not SFP because he doesn’t make clean contact with the studs and instead glances/slides off onto the thigh, therefore YC

  15. Dissent is completely possible in this world cup. Very annoying.

    1. Frankly unbelievable how that show of dissent wasn't a YC

  16. How come Mariani didn’t show a YC after that dissent? 9/10 referees would give YC and I wouldn’t think Mariana would be that one off.

    1. He would in Uefa competition, but I don't think 9/10 referees in this world cup would give a YC for that. All dissent I've seen has been 'managed' this tournament (like the 25 CWC)

    2. Exactly as I predicted. I really don’t get it.

  17. Mariano lacking the momentum of the game

    1. Mariani*

Very clear missed foul by Mariani in the 56 minute with a mandatory yellow card. AR1 was closer and should have identified it easily.

As for the missed corner, I don’t understand the approach If it’s a close call, give the corner, if you’re wrong and VAR can intervene. But if you incorrectly give a goal kick, VAR can’t change it. I don’t get why referees don’t use that logic more often.

  18. Not convincing by Mariani disciplinary management - or no management - lenient and lenient…Too much cards forgotten and key fouls not detected.

  19. Mariani finished the match in a bad spot.

  20. Why Mariani didn't let the final quick counter use one whistle to cut the game

    1. And agree. Quite strange whistle with a 1 to 1 attack for KSA…

    2. It was going to be a 100% goalscoring opportunity.

    3. Well Saudis were complaining before that he didn't whistle before the corner already, so don't blame the ref when he ends the game shortly afterwards

      Delete
    4. He add 1 min more so he can give few seconds for quick counter. And each he look into watch he didn't want to break urg attack so he can do same

      Delete
  21. Wait did mariani finish game on saudi breakaway?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Acceptable refereeing by Mariani but not more with some fews blatant errors including two YC and several fouls non detected.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Final whistle blows while Saudi player goes one-on-one with the goalkeeper...

  24. The game finished with the ball leaving the penalty area, with one extra minute (rightly) played. That is perfectly normal. I think we saw a rather different Mariani to in Leipzig. Very intent on being in control there, but much calmer and more in the background (well, as much as you can be in Miami pink) here. The 36' non-caution seemed fine, the tackle itself one could argue a slightly reckless hack, but running into a sea of defenders, managing it given the lack of temperature in the game at that point seemed fine. A couple of missed fouls in the second half (the obvious one infront of AR1 mentioned above several times), but otherwise, given the match infront of him, I didn't dislike this Mariani. A good start for him

  25. Very good performance with a laidback approach, technical calls mostly correct (44' was close to RC for SFP, very tricky 56' was okay play-on as it was URU player who ran onto studs and not otherwise and 60' penalty appeal - we don't see them given anymore), good talking to gk after his 'injury' worked perfectly, good reactions to ksa protests. I would say Letexier and Mariani were the best so far!

  26. Poor Mariani. Unconvincing as he has always been. Not outstanding but not very poor either. Always stuck in-between. Like Chefren will always say, there's still something always missing from his game that shows him to be an elite referee. Just ike Vincic, his nationality helps him more than his abilities. But he has a bit more time to hit top elite level, unlike the 46 year-old Slovenian.
