  1. The player off the field during the 1 minute for off field treatment rule was standing on the field right in front of the 4th official before being let go with play right there...

  2. Think a missed reckless challenge by Ramos a few minutes before the hydration break; played advantage and then ball did not go out of play for three-four minutes but think it was deserving to award a yellow afterwards, albeit have not seen the replay.

    1. +1 regardless of how long it took, he should have gone back and caution

+1 Definitely agree here, we have seen a definite pattern where the referees are not appropriately carding reckless challenges. Perhaps a directive from FIFA

  3. Missed foul by the GK outside the PK area, so missed FK imo haven't seen replay of the potential PK

  4. Many simulations from iran players. Need to book one to cut it out.

    1. I also like how the referee has not fallen into the trap of mistaking contact for a foul & obviously done his homework at acknowledging that the Iran players like to go down very easily. It is difficult too because NZL are a physical team and it is difficult to find the line between a physical team and a team that embellish contact.

It is hard to YC these players for simulation when there is clear contact and the Iran players go down. Does not meet the threshold for a YC for simulation.

  5. Iran player seemed to put his jersey half over his head on goal? Interesting one I've never seen but he did not pull it completely over his head but certainly covered half the head, no yellow card in the end

    1. Technically a YC:

      12.4 Celebration of a goal
A player must be cautioned, even if the goal is disallowed, for:
      - removing the shirt or covering the head with the shirt

I don’t think anyone should be surprised that no YC given, thus far in the tournament many YC not given for SPA or reckless challenges. No surprise for me that it wasn’t given.

    2. He didn’t cover his head. Only his face. Have to cover the head with the shirt to get a yellow.

    3. Here is such a case of a rare yellow for covering the whole head. https://youtube.com/shorts/AhmFSLhEY5Y?is=cF8ZjUyV8JLqiJbI

  6. 36' Why did Ramos not send off the player after whistling for possible head injury? I thought one can only stay on pitch if there actually IS a severe injury?

    1. LOTG only talks about YC or RC for the opponent but i think since the beginning of the tournament for head injury they don't have to respect the 1 minute delay

    2. A player is not required to leave the field of play for one minute when:

      the player:
indicates that they do not require medical attention, except where play was stopped for the injury; or
voluntarily leaves the field during play or a stoppage, provided that this does not delay the restart
there is an injury for which Law 5 permits a player to be treated on the field of play:
      a goalkeeper is injured
a goalkeeper and an outfield player have collided and need attention
players from the same team have collided and need attention
a severe injury has occurred, especially a head injury (e.g. concussion), cardiac issue or life-threatening event (e.g. seizure, choking etc.)
a player is injured as the result of a physical offence for which the opponent is cautioned or sent off (e.g. reckless or serious foul challenge)
a penalty kick has been awarded and the injured player will be the kicker

    1. Stonewall YC missed. We have a clear FIFA line with leniency calls. Weird.

  8. Im sorry how isnt that a card. Just an insult to refereeing.

  9. How are four players allowed to yelling at the ref blatantly ?

  10. I was surprised there was no yellow card. Have to assume there’s some form of directive to the referees about yellow cards for dissent.

Is it just me or is there no flow to this game or could the referee do more to allow play to flow. when he blows the whistle, he blows it a bunch of times

    1. I don’t like how dissent has been managed since the beginning of the tournament. Terrible exemple for all the players in the world. Really strange decision by FIFA to let players yell at referees

    2. How dissent has NOT been managed ;)

  11. Second half was calm, with both teams focused on playing football, leaving the referee with not that much to do. Nevertheless, his usual tendency to avoid disciplinary sanctions whenever possible was evident; I agree that he should have shown a yellow card in the 50' minute. It is worth noting that, after several matches have now been played, the opening game performance by Sampaio in terms of red cards and major decisions has not been repeated in any other match so far.

  12. With so many draws and with the advancing of many of the 3rd place teams, there won't be many dead-rubber games in MD3. I don't know what plans they've made in advance but the Committe should be aware of this.

  13. Few coments on last night performances:
Abatti performance was average, without controversies and decisions imapct on final outcome, but there was obviously lack of consistency throgh game, also as lack of disciplinary control. Ther was also good decisions, but at the end, game was finished in correct way.
Good performance by Mariani, with some YC missed, but full control of the game from start to end. Good start for him.
Expected-good performance by Adam Makhdameh in more football focused game, with some little lack in disciplinary way but nothing for report.
Average performance by Ramos in also football focused game, but its also obvious that he have missed obvious yellow cards, some technical issuses through game. At the end, without decisions on impact of result, what is good.

  14. Are we going to talk about the Iranian goalscorer’s gesture, mimicking gunfire toward the American stands after 2-1 ? So FIFA opens an investigation because a VAR made a childish gesture, yet the referees let a violent gesture go without any reaction? He should have been sanctioned for that celebration. Completely unacceptable.

  15. OT. There seem to be some strange problems with the FIFA badges:

    - some AR's are wearing referee badges, see:
