ReplyDeleteFoul? Penalty? Correct play-on by Sidiropoulos?
The foul starts outside and ends inside: so in case of whistle, penalty and RC (of course not a genuine attempt to play the ball). One can still discuss about the real effects of the challenge, but to me in this case a whistle is expected.
DeleteReferee far away from the case.that's why he lost the incident..totally agree with Chefren..
ReplyDeleteClear penalty and RC.I would expect a penalty call from an experienced ref like Tasos, even though he was far from the penalty area. Shocking mistake. Not good performance overall, as well. Lots of disciplinary inconsistencies.
DeleteNEW - CHE (26.8.18)
ReplyDeleteWhy did not they see?
https://streamable.com/rleee
Clear foul, missed by referee who was far.
DeleteMaybe AR could have helped, but I must repeat always the same things... nowadays without VAR is very, very difficult to officiate.

very interesting appointment for Brych.Last time he officiated match in Greece was about 8-9 years ago, a champions league play off between Panathinaikos-Atletico Madrid in front of 70000 people. I was there and I admired him. He was not influenced by the crowd at all. Paok will not get any ref bonus playing at home.
DeleteOlympiacos - PSG was just 5 years ago. 😉
DeleteLol. Absolutely right. 1-4 the final score if I remember correctly. My point about him is getting stronger. Benfica has still the advantage. Bigger name in Europe than Paok.
DeleteAll Elite Referees should not be influenced by big crowds :D

ReplyDeleteI wasn't really sure where to write this report, but anyway here it goes
ReplyDeleteSL Benfica - Sporting CP, Primeira Liga, Round 3
Luís Godinho
Teixeira, A. Godinho, Nobre
VARs: Sousa, Jesus
Lisbon's Derby between Benfica - Sporting probably constituted the biggest game of the season so far in Portugal. So I was (pleasantly) surprised to see that thirty-two years old Luís Godinho was designated for such a big match, and was interested to evaluate his potential especially considering his age.
Some Points:
=> Biggest decision taken in the match was the penalty assigned to Sporting at 60'. Here is the full sequence:
https://streamable.com/gyvxn
Decision was confirmed by the VAR, Jorge Sousa.
=> I was impressed by the style of Mr Godinho that he presented in this match. He for the most part showed a very 'English' approach. He always used time well to make a decision, for instance the opening YC at 22' (https://streamable.com/4ynxi) was an excellent management. He also showed a good level of 'smartness' on the pitch, this was revealed by the compensation foul given to Benfica at +46' after they were getting quite irritated. After a fairly hot end to the first half, majority of the second half was played in a calm manner, I think this is a compliment to Godinho's work. The match character was totally different after the 1-1 scored in 87'.
=> After that, the referee team had to face quite a war on the pitch, with both teams playing very passionately. Mr Godinho solved these moments in good way on the whole, still trying to play a calm approach, but this was not possible at some moments (https://streamable.com/1hz1v)- I liked the flexibility he showed here, he is a referee with a strong personality. Perhaps this part of the match also revealed some small weaknesses:
* In my opinion there was a totally avoidable YC for Dissent at +91' (https://streamable.com/6bdgm), which was created by him running away from the scene of this foul. I even thought he whistled for a handball not the foul. Still, firm personality in the moment, what is nice to see.
* Whistled a totally zero foul at +94' for a Benfica freekick which they nearly scored from, also fell for this Felix's theatre with a YC at 86' (https://streamable.com/c1svf). Forget the foul detection facet, I just got the impression he slightly lost the mental strength in this moment of the match and that everything wasn't so clear in his mind.
To be honest, for a thirty-two year old in a very challenging part of the biggest match of his career, this is no real point for improvement, I am sure with time this will not be the case.
=> Having signalised six additional minutes in the second half, the final whistle was blown at 100:10- finally a referee willing to enlarge the stoppage time! Especially considering the context, it would have been easy to whistle at 97mins or so- well done for playing on.
=> His line in cards was very clear and predictable. Besides missing an actually mandatory YC at 8' (the players didn't care), it was pretty much uniform throughout the match. Before the 1-1 at 87', to have only four YCs is sth quite impressive, the five YCs shown after the equaliser was where the referee was forced the change approach or lose the match.
=> AR1 showed a good performance, with only one mistake regarding offside. AR2 didn't really show a good performance, he seemed to be slightly lacking concentration. Fourth Official was quite proactive with the benches.
So overall a positive impression left by Luís Godinho in this match. With thirty-two years of age, I think he could be a big name in Portuguese and UEFA refereeing in the next years, at least based on this match.
A question for Portuguese readers, do you think that Godinho could be a top referee in the future, from what you've seen?
Good morning to all the readers
DeleteMy name is José Braga and I was assistant referee of the Portuguese elite since 2004.
First of all I want to give my congratulations to Luís Godinho.
He is indeed a promising referee and this was present in the good game he made at the Benfica stadium.
I have been Luis Godinho's assistant referee for the past 3 years and he has evolved considerably year after year.
Unfortunately, this was my last year with referee because I was not invited to continue so I could finish my career, with great pity for me, because I would like to have finished with him on my team.
I hope that Godinho continues to evolve and that he never forgets the teachings that I transmitted to him from the beginning of his career to the highest level.
I am proud to have helped Godinho in what I could and will be prouder when he reaches the highest level in UEFA.
Congratulations, once again, pal, and keep up the good work, because you will have many battles ahead.
Best regards to all
José Miguel Braga
@Soham - Björn Kuipers will do this only for you :(

ReplyDeleteHello! It's excellent feeling that referees from the top category read us and even comment on here. All the best, José!
DeleteNice timing Vlad, was there something useful in the comment?
Deleteprobably, i saw it already
DeleteIn Portugal the nominations are only known on the day of the game.
ReplyDeleteSuch propaganda of Fontelas Garcia saying that everything would be transparent and clear after all was a big lie.
In Portugal there was no referee at the time 17-18 ratings, referees and assistant referees came down with value and kept others of dubious quality.
The arbcom will have to resign or be dismissed by the President of the Portuguese Football Federation, Dr. Fernando Gomes.
Then not one security in the portuguese referees.
ReplyDeletePresident of UEFA Cheferin said that there still wont be VAR in CL. He said that there are still to many things that arent clear about use of VAR and that fans and players still dont know who decides will there be OFR, is it the referee or Video assistant referee. He also used example of, as he said, clear penalty not given to Serbia in WC while some smaller fouls than that one were given as penalties
ReplyDeleteLogical decision.
DeleteMr. Čeferin has given an interview to the Slovenian sports newspaper https://ekipa.svet24.si/clanek/nogomet/prva-liga/5b85381334a41/ceferin (it is in Slovenian language though). He talks about many topics and VAR is one of them. But the main topic is a charity football tournament, which is going to happen on 1 September near Nova Gorica (at the Slovenian-Italian border). Some well renowned names are coming to the tournament; Alessandro Del Piero, uis Figo, Ricardo Carvalho, Nuno Gomes, Frank De Boer, Nemanja Vidić, Dejan Stanković and others. Damir Skomina is going to officiate the match. Čeferin stated in the interview the former referee Howard Webb, whom he met last week in MLS, expressed an interest in officiating the match between football legends and domestic players this weekend.
DeleteThese VAR things could became clear and made for 2 minutes before each match. One reason is the lack of experience of the m officials.
DeleteThis situation with Brych becames a bit overestimated, especially when he has a goal phantome already.

Great match for Tierney . And another very good game for kavanagh who is look like he is the next five referee from England . For me actually I like his style , so England will have two Oliver's
ReplyDeleteCan someone explain to me these appointments of same referees as both main referee and as 4th official on the same weekend
DeleteWhy not? It's their job.
DeleteEngland have (I think) only 16 professional referees on the list.
DeleteOf course that they must be appointed as main and a 4 official for the weekend.
Kavanagh is at moment the only option among PL referees for FIFA list.
ReplyDeleteFor sure, he will join in 2019.
Correct penalty by Skomina after 14 minutes, with good coorporation with 6th official.
ReplyDeleteAfter that maybe a technical mistake, cause Tadic hit the post and after that touched it for the 2nd time. I did not see a response to that.
Indirect as the ball hit the post and played by the penalty taken player.didnt see any reaction by Skomina
DeletePenalty call and kick... https://streamja.com/1mbO
DeletePK given by Skomina. Holding by 94 Kiev, also a YC for 94
ReplyDeleteMissed IFK after penalty?
ReplyDeleteAfter a missed penalty (ball hit the post), the same player from Dynamo Kyiv touched again the ball. I think Skomina missed this infringment, he had to signal indirect free kick. Luckily a goal was not scored.
ReplyDeleteIt was an Ajax player Chefren
DeleteYes, sorry, my mistake. However I can't believe Skomina missed that. It would have been astonishing in case of goal scored.
Delete‘28 AR2 with a blatant missed offside. Positioning looked correct. AJA#5 was 1 meter offside at least.
ReplyDeleteNow it seemed like a missed offside. Missed the replay, but if an Ajax player was the one to last touch the ball, the mistake of AR2 would be significant in terms of distance (not outcome).
ReplyDeleteIt was George. The next situation was a foul on AJA#5 inside of the penalty area of Kiev. Studs were up and on the foot of AJA#5. Luckily no penalty was awarded.
DeleteAgreed.
ReplyDeleteCorrect PK by Kuipers, but IMO handball by Young Boys player before corner kick for 1-2 goal
ReplyDeleteRed card for what by Marciniak?
ReplyDeleteCorrect Red card...Defender hit the player
Deletehttps://streamable.com/4diau
DeleteWithout context and just with the video, not the optimal decision, IMO. A YC would have been enough.
DeleteClear headbutt
DeleteExcellent decision by Marciniak.
DeleteThe foul was committed by a different AEK player. Perhaps he said something to Marciniak.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I couldn't watch most of the second half, the impression I got from Skomina's performance was not that good (first half+last 5 minutes of the match). But no crucial mistakes in the time I watched.
ReplyDeleteSkomina with a good game. Always in Control. Some “normal” minor protest in the last part of the match, but always with full acceptance. Only AR2 with two mistakes. They had no affect on the result so not markable as crucial.
ReplyDeleteConclusion. Expected/Decent/Good start of the season for team Skomina.
Unfortunately Kuipers directly affected on result of the game and decision who goes in CL. He missed handball which started YB action that resulted in corner kick that lead to second goal
ReplyDelete
DeleteKuypers very well, I think. And Young Boys
better that D.Zagreb.
He made one mistake but it directly influenced on result of the game. Even stranger thing is that it happened right in front of him.
DeleteAnother red card in Athens after final whistle.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion first red card was adequate call.

ReplyDeleteRed card from marciniak after the final whistle. Tottaly correct and unacceptable action from AEK player
Thank you!!! Anyone knows how to download this video?
DeleteStreamable version for Vlad: https://streamable.com/5e08d
DeleteThanks a lot!
DeletePerfect control!
ReplyDeleteLooking at the comments about all the matches I think we can easily see that the commitee was very right in appointing the more experienced/senior referees of the elite categorie on this matches. Given al the hard/difficult/intense situations descriped.
ReplyDeletePenalty assigned by Kuipers with AAR2 Van Boekel
ReplyDeletehttps://streamable.com/hiw10
1-2 with situation reported by Filip^ (At maximum Kuipers could lose 0,2 points here, this not a CRUCIAL mistake)
https://streamable.com/q60cq
Otherwise, no problems for Kuipers besides some small mistakes, relatively easy match.
The penalty is rather wrong, I think. Mutual holding and some kind of tripping by the attacking player. I would have preferred a defensive free kick.
DeleteIndeed the handball is not a crucial mistake, because it happened too earlier than the goal. Then, ball is out and with the corner kick a new action starts. Anyway, it could have been whistled, particular to see that Kuipers was really close, having a clear view on the incident.
DeleteRegarding penalty the DZG player kicks an opponent's left leg with right knee what was well visible for Pol van Boekel. The attacker is entitled to run as he wants, so no offence at his side. Correct penalty, lack of it would've been a mistake.
Delete
