ReplyDeleteAbout the rest, the first thing we can say: Mateu Lahoz has not the same reputation of Kuipers, maybe this was already clear, but now we have a full confirmation. He has been not considered for Napoli - PSG, and Stella Rossa - Liverpool is rather something for a Category 1. However, maybe this was also the result of a not so good management of Spanish appointments so far. Mateu in any case could have been in a better game.
For Marciniak a sonorous game, but still not so important for standings, in this group Barcelona and Inter are clearly ahead. Nice to see Kružliak in the other game.
Soareas Dias still with not so much interesting games...
Collum will officiate a very important tie in Gelsenkirchen.
Very sensible set of appointments IMO. The Belgrade is not so bad, I think. Probably the host will Liverpool give a hard time, while the English can't afford to lose points there. So Category 1 would be too less there IMO.

I assume, at least the matches in Munich and Valencia will be for First Group - so someone will have to go to EL again. Probably Aytekin is most endangered for that. And for Karasev it's actually difficult to find a match: Benfica-Ajax and Lyon-Hoffenheim seem too important (one of them should be for Rocchi, the other one for Cakir, Makkelie or Turpin), the rest is not possible. So he might be in EL as well.

Delete@Philipp about Rocchi, for sure he will stay on FIFA list for 2019, then for sure as well on December 2019 he will be removed. Undiano will end his Spanish careeer on next June, so he will be FIFA referee only for the first half of 2019.
About Kuipers, a reader of the blog a few days ago wrote that he could stay on the list even until 2020 (I guess EURO tournament) if he feels that he is still OK with physical condition. I think we can be sure he will stay at least for the whole 2019... I don't know about Mazic, I tried to ask for some info. It would be interesting to know about Bezborodov as well, I knew that age limit in Russia was 45... so in any case I think he should be out for 2019.
Those referees like Kuipers (and some others) should have the decency (or common sense) to stop their international careers. Kuipers has already 4 final tournaments, a CL final, 2 EL finals etc. Enough is enough, don't you think ? There are also many other referees in this world who want to whistle big games !!!

I want to point that I saw problem of adding time from referees in Spain.
Referee in that match was Estrada Fernandez.
Match ended with 3-3 score,there were multiple confrotations between players and even coaches,6 subs,many complaints to the ref.I thought for sure there would be 5 minutes added,then I saw that he only added 3 minutes at the end of 90 minutes.
There is a special law is Spain with says that added time can't be more than 3 minutes...

According to UEFA RAP 2018-1, if you play advantage on a SPA you shouldn't caution because a promising attack wasn't stopped. In your scenario you would only caution the second one. That is unless the first one was reckless and then SPA.

I'm glad you brought that up Nathan because I have found this very confusing. If you apply the laws as they are written you would be correct in saying that they should be cautioned. However, every piece of teaching material I have seen from UEFA says that the player should only be cautioned on a promising attack advantage if the tackle was reckless. And the only change to law for this season was with regards to DOGSO advantage. I would love some clarification on this as the law has been like this since at the very least the massive overhaul of 2016. Yet we consistently see teaching materials and instructors say to only caution if a promising attack is actually stopped. I'll place a quote from UEFA RAP 2017/2 'Advantage' H-9 here for you. " The AR signals for foul play too quickly, when the team has a very promising attacking opportunity. The referee should not act on advice of his assistant and allow play to continue; no disciplinary sanction would then be needed (as promising attack would not be stopped)". See what I mean? If advantage is played, there is no need for a caution.

I saw in multiple occasions a YC given for blatant SPA holding or careless tackle, after an advantage. I am not a referee myself and a lot of person here will know better than me anyway :)

Well, I must say that an Elite referee like Mateu was justified in Belgrade, Serbian side is definitely a better team at home and this game can be very important for qualification as well.

Looks like a quite clear penalty, the only doubt is about a possible touch on the body before the arm, but penalty would have been fully justified. Difficult to spot, there were many players inside the box close to this incident.

ReplyDeleteKuipers first half: two YC, both correct. In the second case Kuipers played advantage and he didn't remember exactly the player to be booked, he was halped by a teammate via earphone and he showed the card to the correct player.

There were some protests and tension after the goal, a player was booked for that. It is common thing for UEFA to allow an attacking action even when the additional time is over, so Kuipers can't be blamed for that.
In second half, for sure the game will be more challenging.
One has to remember, it is

I'm not defending what Neymar did but he clapped the referee for only a second. Could it have been a second yellow? Sure but not a straight red.
I find it more interesting how the other PSG players physically block the path of the referee to try and stop him showing the yellow to Neymar. They should have been carded.
IMO missed RC for Neymar, clapping his hands to Kuipers ironically after a YC for protests

ReplyDeleteCome on guys. Italian players (two defenders) are near 2 meters from free frick. PSG players wanted kuipers to respect the law. But no problem with LOTG by dutch ref here. He created the confusion without clear prevency...Bad management here IMO. And clear mistake with penalty on Bernal.
ReplyDeleteSorry to insist, but IMO this is really a crucial crucial mistake by Kuipers for the foul on Bernat. One can still discuss about the possible RC for Neymar or Verratti at the end of the game (both would have been supportable), but this penalty was more than clear, especially from where Kuipers was positioned.

My explanation is that Kuipers thought PSG player had exaggerated the contact. But yes, penalty was the correct decision there.

DeleteI agree with Chefren. He probably thought that Bernat exaggerated and he maybe missed the courage to make such a crucial call in that atmosphere. Still, a mistake which should not happen at that level.
DeleteApart from that: A very difficult match. Kuipers had control for most parts, but lost a bit of it in the last minutes. The whole Neymar situation was badly managed. Why issue a YC, when the player has even some points with his claims? Just relax him or even better ignore him. Kuipers decision was not so clever here and brought him a very difficult follow-up decision where he has to issue a 2nd YC to Neymar. So, in my opinion a 7.4. Two crucial mistakes.

Rhis year was not the best for him,but having in mind that Cakir had their 1st match,Mazic cant officiate because Red Star is in the group,Skomina is not in best form,to me Brych is best solution.
A thing is sure: PSG must win against Liverpool, otherwise they are (prety sure) out. In this order PSG- Liverpool needs a top referee. I already told you that Cakir was a non-sense in 1st round, in Liverpool- PSG. Cakir would have been a very good solution now, in a decisive game. Otherwise, keep in mind that Zwayer was in charge at PSG- Napoli. We will have again a german referee for PSG at home ? Very possibil because the options are very limited (thanks to Collina...). Don't forget that also Liverpool- Napoli, in last round, needs a top referee. If PSG will beat Liverpool than last game will be do or die for Liverpool.

DeleteYou are right, Peter. Marciniak should be possible, it already happened in past to see a referee officiating twice in the same group but different teams. For sure one could say this is still the result of missing alternatives, but it was my mistake to forget that. Marciniak is possible for PSG - Liverpool. Then maybe Brych in Liverpool - Napoli on MD6.
