  1. Huge appointment for Gil Manzano, I reckon his performance will hugely impact his chances for a EL semifinal because he had a rather average season

  2. Interesting choices of observer in Group G. Haim Jakov in Austria v Poland and Tomasz Mikulski in Israel v Austria.

    1. missed PK in 40th minute for handball after the header

      Delete
    2. Indeed, most likely Rebecca lost her focus after the first handball incident.

The rest was good though - she didn't fall for a dive in another penalty incident, was lenient as the game allowed that and when the atmosphere became hot at the end she issued two yellow cards.

    3. her view of the incident was pretty clear though, othen than that she was flawless

  4. There are 2 matches missing: Wales v Slovakia and Kazakhstan v Russia

    1. Correct:

      KAZ - RUS

      Referee: Slavko Vinčić (SVN)
      AR1: Tomaž Klančnik (SVN)
      AR2: Andraž Kovacic (SVN)
      FO: Rade Obrenovic (SVN)

      WAL - SVK
      Referee: Felix Zwayer (GER)
      AR1: Thorsten Schiffner (GER)
      AR2: Marco Achmüller (GER)
      FO: Marco Fritz (GER)

A bit of a disappointing appoitment for Vinčić...

    2. Well Kazakhstan won 3-0 against Scotland, maybe not so disappointing match for Vincic. Could be an interesting match...

    3. Besides, they are neighbouring countries. UEFA tends to appoint better referees for those matches. Remember for example Macedonia-Albania.

      Delete
  5. Maybe Elite referee should have been appointed for Slovenia vs North Macedonia?
I know they aren't neighboors but we all know that matches between teams from former Yugoslavia tend to be bit emotional and very hard to officiate.

    1. There were never any tensions between Slovenia and Macedonia in terms if former Yugoslavia history. There were also no tensions in previous four encounters between these two nations.

      Delete
    2. Indeed. No need for that at all. Just like Belarus-Armenia wontw get elite.

  6. both goals were clear, as far for the injured player, the defender caught him in the heel in the process of running with the ball far away.

  7. Aranovskyy added one minute, but whistled after 0:36. It looks like he struggles to gain respect from the players, his gestures and body language are weak and unsure.
The 2nd half gonna be more challenging, wish him not to lose control...

    1. 4 YCs in the first 15 minutes. Sounds like he got his hands full.

  8. The most decisive decision regarding offside was correct. There was a HUN player lying on the ground before Croatia scored, onside. As for 36' this was a missed foul and YC by the team. Otherwise it looked decent from what I have seen, but quite a big mistake.

  9. Belgium scored after handball.

  10. No. Please don’t say wrong informations. No handball here. Lot’s of replays seen. Good decision to play on.

      Really? Freeze on 0.15.

    2. Yes Teo. We saw on French television replays from goal line and it’s more clear that player put his arm to control the ball but just before ball arrived there was a movement to put the ball with chest. In your images we can argue handball and that was my first impression too with his angle but with other replays, it’s more clear. ;)

    3. not clear handball... play on

  11. excellent offside by Manzano's AR1, player in an offside position made a basketball screen towards the defender. well prepared the linesman there.

  12. 5 YC after 20 minutes from Estrada Fernsndez in Slovenia - Macedonia. Seems to have a difficult match...

  13. Excellent ONSIDE by AR2 when Germany scored 0-2.

    2. Very difficult situation indeed. Definitively grey area to play on. :)

      Delete
    3. I watched a replay, it looked to be quite clearly ONSIDE.

      Delete
    4. Saw it again. Outstanding decision by AR2. Onside. Very convincing performance by Gil Manzano.

      Delete
    5. It wasn't very difficult, but yes, it was difficult :)

Situation few minutes before the second goal gor GER, when Sane was in an obvious chance to score, was more challenging for AR

  14. Correct first YC from Gil Manzano to Blind from NED. Dissent by gesture, after previous warnings to him and Van Dijk.

    1. Agree Rik but just after a phantom foul against him...

      Delete
    2. There were some quite soft foul calls during the first half, including this one.
Otherwise expected level from Gil Manzano.

      Delete
    3. Stupid foul (push) by Blind, the whistle was correct, and then the gesture off wich you can expect this reaction by a Spanish referee...... just stupid wat he does!

      Delete
  15. Slovenia - North Macedonia: 5 YCs in 5 minutes by Estrada Fernandez.

    1. Some dirty play and provocations from Macedonians. Nothing that Estrada couldn't handle. Good performance.

  16. Manzano, awesome athletic performance and play development intuition

  17. Good/expected level from Gil Manzano in a top clash. Congratulations for him as he was until now quite erratic in both domestic and European competition.

    1. The yellow card he gave for dissent to Blindt clearly changed the match. He showed he doesn’t approve dissent and that’s how all referees should be. The game became calm.

    2. Gil Manzano is so so so so fit. Unbelivable!

      Delete
    3. He could actually have been a professional athlete, but he decided to focus on refereeing.

  18. A very strong performance from Felix Zwayer and team in a match that was not easy to referee between Wales and Slovakia. 9 fully justified and correct YCs (2 Wales, 7 Slovakia). Only minor criticism could be a missed caution for SPA? https://streamable.com/hj4lo

    1. He is heading towards the side. No card is okay. Not a clear attack.

      Delete
    2. There's a very similar incident in 41' minute for an almost identical foul and attacking break for Wales for which Lobotka is cautioned for SPA: https://streamable.com/552mm

      Delete
    3. Yes in that case that's just inconsistency by the ref.

      Delete
    4. Thanks for your view Victor, that was the only blemish I could find on a very strong performance from Zwayer

      Delete
    5. Perhaps Zwayer deemed neither foul to be SPA, but instead deemed it to be a pattern of similar fouls against #16 of Wales. Therefore, the card was for a type of persistent infringement.
