I want to thank Slavko Vinčić and his Slovenian team for having accepted this appointment, for sure it wasn't an easy choice. I'm not sure this game will be played. No observer indicated by UEFA so far. Also, very particular, given the circumstances, to see a Slovenian VAR for the first time in UEFA competitions, this is clearly explained: UEFA didn't want to appoint another team from a different country just for this role, and it was impossible to see Italian officials there.

I didn't expect Karasev in a sonorous game after the blatant mistake he made on previous appearance, I think this appointment could mean that committee has selected him for EURO, otherwise he would have been out for a while.
Chefren, do you think or know that other referees don't want to go to Milano for Inter match ?
DeleteWell, in this panic and mass histeria atmosphere it is great that Slovenian team, as well as Croatian team today in youth league, accepted the appointments.
DeleteFor me it is unnecessary and wrong to ban and postpone sport events, as athletes are young and healthy people and with no spectators there is no serious threat.
Regarding EURO2020 (as someone mentioned it in comments) , coronavirus is usually present in winter part of the year so it is unlikely that this epidemics will persist for so long in the warm months. I expect normal situation by then.

DeleteRegarding my comments, I am actually an expert in this field and, although not involved personally in medical care or institutions dealing with covid 19, I believe I can say something on that matter.
For example, 4-5% mortality rate in Italy is due to insufficient capacities for testing, so often only severe patients are diagnosed. In South Korea where there are 7x more tested people per million, the mortality rate is 0,6%.
As this is not general forum, I will not try to discuss it further, and instead will focus on refereeing topics. :)
And I really hope this situation (both real danger and perception) will soon be just history.

Probably, this is possible due to the fact that Valeri and Mariani come from a region of Italy where the diffusion of the virus is still limited. Ekberg is the only 1st group appointed. ReplyDeleteDefinitely not easy for UEFA the management of this game. I can confirm that VAR is used in Switzerland, so maybe this can be an argument for the replacement. At the same time, I wouldn't blame too much Jug if he decided to renounce. Scharer comes from Switzerland, not so far away from Lombardy, so this can be another reason. Slovenian officials don't use VAR domestically.

As a referee it's hard to disagree with this foul, although personally I don't like the way attacker left his leg behind, anticipating contact with a defender.
And the second question, I wonder about YC in this situation (SPA). Attacker run out of the penalty area and I don't know if it is enough for YC, especially second in this case.
I disagree that the attacker was playing for a foul, his movement pattern is normal is playing / defending the ball.

ReplyDeleteNow it is again Skomina turn in Wolfsburg, second penalty for handball given after OFR. However in both situations, given the position where the touch occurred, it wasn't easy for Skomina.
Maybe Marciniak's AR1 had more chances in Glasgow for spotting that penalty...
Last season Skomina got UCL final after 3 games with missed penalties (during 2018-2019 season). Now he missed 2 penalties in 45 minutes. He has huge problems with handballs in the area. A referee like Skomina should have whistled those penalties without OFR.
