  4. Why the need to have Sampaio on NED again I just don't understand. Use him on another match. Poor appointment for me.

    1. Yes, I agree.
You can also question, whether Sampaio deserved a R16 (or was the weakest CONMEBOL referee at the tournament).

    2. Unfortunately politics again come into play I suspect- I would expect to see and Argentine appointed to a R16 encounter too (possibly BRA v URU if that pans out tomorrow).

  5. The lack of communication from FIFA over VAR decisions in this tournament has fully highlighted the disconnect between the system and the watching fans; there is never any clarity offered at any juncture. Unlike in the Premier League, where the VAR feed is shared with broadcasters, FIFA controls/restricts the output. If VAR is to be truly accepted, this has to be vastly improved.

  6. I don't know where I can find the full assignments directly on the FIFA website - but will lady Nesbitt indeed still act as Reserve Assistant Referee this evening when she got meanwhile appointed as Assistant Referee for England - Senegal tomorrow?
