  1. So Makkelie and the VAR team missed at the first goal at GER-HUN. This is why he need to leave.

    1. So, just for this reason he has to go.
At this point I think that all referees should go, following this reasoning :)

    4. it is interessting what uefa does communicate to the outside (media, press, etc.) and what it communicates to the inside (referees, national assosciations)... i have now watched all the clips...from my understanding the number of missed var interventions is a lot higher than the number uefa mentioned publically or in their online-meetings. all in all, i think the level of refereeing in this tournament was not so great, sadly...

    5. Indeed. We can seen clearly now, why Makkelie and Tello didnt get more matches in Germany, why didnt got more appointment Hernández Hernández as VAR. I have check more videos like Germany-Hungary, or Scotland-Hungary. For example on Scotland-Hungary 3(!!!) penalty not awarded for the teams 1 for Scotland 2 for Hungary. But I talking about only 2 matches, where are others... So we can say that Rosetti was not happy after this tournament.

  4. Yes, indeed after having checked most of clips, we can draw conclusion that it was not the best tournament, let's say it kindly, for many referees. This was also the reason that contributed to Letexier final assiognments. I want to be clear, he deserved that in the end, but surely with many big competitors and the original focus clearly on other referees, the (relatively) young French wouldn't have got already the EURO final at his age. We can consider the EURO 2024 as very turning point of UEFA refereeing.
One should also dare to say that, given the very clear information we can find in the clips, it's strange that committee allows publication (hopefully after my words nohing will change), but if they were so angry about Spanish federation for the famous leak, they are not confidential by revealing other assessment. I think that basically the first answer is that such stuff is most for referees and their trainings, and it shouldn't be used for "different purposes", like we do on this blog, but of course i't impossible not to compare the performance of a referee.
Among others, the incredible game was the one with Tello and Hernandez Hernandez, this, differently from all other games and referees, was a very clear shocking performance. Three missed penalties and after that UEFA also forced to make the Argentinian fourth official in a KO stage, as act of courtesy in the relations with CONMEBOL. Another referee after such performance, would have been invited to go immediately after final whistle... this is for many aspects how world works today, very often only form but not substance.

    1. I want to add, the low quality of EURO was rather hidden this time in my opinion for two reasons: less focus on refereeing than before in big tournaments (and that's a generic trend of modern football, with more interest in the teams and in the games) and VAR correcting mistakes as second factor, but yes, there were VAR mistakes as well. Rosetti should have been extremely disappointed, but he didn't show that in public, of course. If I rememeb correctly, a press conference was hold in which they discussed (but not aired on TV) and it was rather "talking about nothing". The biggest disappointment for Rosetti maybe Tello, as he personally stated, I remember an interview, he had selected him from CONMEBOL, because the best South American referee at that time, according to his opinion, well....

  5. Fabio Maresca will be finally back in a game after 5 months.
In addition to the famous issues in Kuwait at the beginning of this season, he had also a serious injury, stopping him for a very long time. Indeed, he had been appointed for his return 2 months ago, but having to renounce. Very curious to see him in serie B game Frosinone - Catanzaro on Saturday.

  9. There should be VAR in the FA Cup (Man. United vs Leicester). Maguire's goal had to be disallowed.

    1. At the time of the free kick the position of the assistant-referee is minimum 2m behind the second-last defender. He can never properly assess Maguire’s position at the time the ball was kicked.

    2. It's incredible that in such a high profile game you don't have VAR! That said, another argument is the nature of the mistake by AR, on a free kick! Honestly, I really can't follow England and their ideas about refereeing.

    3. It's because they don't want some games to have VAR in the round and some not to have VAR.

  10. Very controversial penalty awarded in favour of Atlético by Soto Grado after being called to the monitor by De Burgos Bengoetxea. Who initiated contact?, was the defending player at fault here?, what impact it had on the attacking action?

Agree with your opinion. Wrong intervention, you don't know how much Atlético player ran into the oppoinent and not the contrary (one-sided foul). Another confirmation about the level of the Basque referee, also working as VAR, never convinced by him! It's not difficult to draw the conclusion and say that this was not clear and obvioius mistake.

    2. It seems the defender is stepping rather on the floor than on the attacker's foot. That can still be evaluated as tripping, I think. So, together with no impact on the attack, a soft penalty and therefore I dislike the VAR intervention.

  11. I agree with you, this is never VAR stuff. His more than half foot is on the field.

Also there was a foul by Ceballos at 24'. I think that was SFP. VAR should have intervened there IMO.
