It seems as if UEFA is currently exploring which Austrians could be considered as VAR specialists. Ciochirca no longer seems to be a top priority as a referee, Kijas was/is injured, and others have either ended their international careers as referees or have no chance of becoming such.

ReplyDeleteVery eventful game for Jose Luis Munuera in Mallorca vs Barcelona, allowed Barcelona to score while a Mallorca player was on the floor holding his head. Then 2 reds for Mallorca. One for a second yellow and a straight red for a high foot after an OFR.
ReplyDeleteIMO unwise by Munuera Montero not to stop play after ball impacted on Mallorca defender as there wasn't an immediate goal scoring oportunity in the aftermath, Barcelona scored because Mallorca defenders 'stopped' as they saw Munuera Montero about to blow.

Unnacceptable to allow play to continue there. He thought he could cancel the goal after VAR review but that only applies when it’s an offence. This is not an offence, its a head injury. Absolutely wrong there. I would like a video of it to see again.

Only argument is that referee thought defender was making a bit of scene here, but safety comes before and facts can't be denied (intercepted a powerful shot with head, this was enough).

And Maqedonci has been indeed replaced as Pristina Born with Kosovo origin. Incredible mistake in the appointment, one can't believe that, but it should be rather Swedish FA wrong choice, as UEFA at this stage mostly appoints only main referees and VAR.

ReplyDeleteKean (FIO#20) received a straight red card for violent conduct, specifically for intentionally elbowing an opponent.
However, he reacted because POL#5 had clearly pulled his hair just before. Based on what we've seen in the last few months, that should have also been a send-off.
Agayev missed the scene, which was reported to him by either AR1 or 4O. To me, VAR non-intervention is a mistake.
The Azeri referee ran into the scene but he missed what had happened, then informed by somebody about RC for the reaction. Correct decision, but the hair pulling causing that, remained unpunished. We have indeed to remember the two red cards we saw in recent times, one in UEFA and the other in FIFA, for hair pulling, assessed as violent conduct. It seems German VAR didn't agree with that and we don't have any consistency. Even if only YC to opponent, would have been a by far better management. VAR should have invited the referree to rewatch because he could have issued another RC, but I think you can also understand that after the big and mostly expected decision (RC for reaction) it was hard to call to monitor! Hope Rosetti will fix this issue: what should we expect for hair pulling in UEFA games?

DeleteIt's a ridiculous decision. It took so long for the Austrian VAR to make a decision that it clearly wasn't a clear and obvious hand ball. Al-Emara has had a terrible match, it's bèn all about him and he jas been shockingly inconsistent. Extremely poor referee who is nowhere near the required level.
DeleteI have to say he isnt a good referee, as you say he makes the game all about him, 7 yellow cards, in a game that wasnt very challenging!!
