ReplyDeletePSG Milan Gil manzano
Young boys m.city makkelie?
Szymon Marciniak is to referee the PSG-Milan match on Wednesday. Is it possible?
ReplyDeleteAfter Borussia Dortmund - Milan, should be impossible.
DeleteWith his Slovenian VAR appointed on Tuesday as AVAR, I think that Vincic should get the game in Paris.
Ain't no way Vincic.. my Predict was Makkelie/Taylor
DeleteChefren! Did he mess something up in this match or what?
DeleteI meant that after having handled Milan on previous matchay, should be impossible to see Marciniak again with the same team, it is not about performance, but about the management of appointments!
DeleteMakkelie with PSG is very difficult to happen in short time after the famous game with Real Madrid, but I wish him that in future he can meet again the French team.
Taylor is impossible in a group with Newcaslte.
To make predictions, you should consider many factors, you can't do that so easily!
What is your prediction Chefren?
DeleteMy Predictions
Newcastle-Dortmund: Umut Meler
Paris-Milan: Vincic
Vincic in Paris, while I would really appreciate, based on current form, to see Kruzliak with Dallas in Newcastle.
DeletePossible to see Dias as well.
and he was able to referee Man City twice in a row last season?
DeleteKO stage and appointments for semifinal and the final were definitely particular situations.. we know! It is different in group stage, you have many referees to appoint.
DeleteOk, thank you Chefren for explaining this.
DeleteMassa with another good appointment, he currently looks rather in than out regarding the EURO.
ReplyDeleteGuida then a logical choice for the - on paper - easier game in group A.
Nyberg with another top match. Will be interesting, how far he can get in his first Elite season, if he continues like that.
Petrescu in a low-profile, but important game, given the group situation. Also good for him to get a second group stage match so soon.
In group C, it is hard to say, which game is the more difficult/important, but two logical choices there, I think.
And two top names for group D also makes sense, as the situation there still seems relatively open.
Michael Oliver with a brilliant game
ReplyDeleteFanboy?
DeleteI have a different idea about Oliver appointment, the game in my opinion would have been suitable even for a Category 1, knowing committee management. The most important game for Real Madrid was the previous one in Naples, and indeed there was Turpin, but after that I think they are expected to qualify without any doubt. Take a look also at Real Madrid home game against Union Berlin. So I think that this appointment was a choice including at least two factors: maybe due to English team and previous assignment, not so many games for Oliver and also the fact that English referee doesn't seem to be at his best at moment. I expect an easy win by Real Madrid but in a game that goes against the known style of English referees, and that's the interesting factor.
DeleteWhile for Turpin in Benfica - Real Sociedad the choice is fully reasonable, because group is fully open and these two teams can easily fight for qualification, being maybe on a very similar level.
About the rest of appointments, in my opinion one should have expected a less experienced name than Letexier in Milan, but committee made a similar choice to the other clash, with Turpin in same group and they used the opportunity for full French assignments, sometimes this can lead to certain particular choices, but still reasonable to me.
ReplyDeletePeljto continues with basically good games, this one is important for qualification on paper for both teams, but surely more interesting than Braga - Real Madrid because more crucial (Spanish team, as I said, very favorite). Nevertheless, surely less sonorous on paper. The Bosnian continuing on this path, can definitely find big appointments in future.
Petrescu in Lens, very open group. The focus is fully on Sevlla and Arsenal, on paper the teams expected to qualify, but at moment you have chancesfor all four teams. Nevertheless, it is clear how committee treats teams such as Lens. Similar handling like Youing Boys, in terms of referee's selection, mostly Category 1. Even more after good results for them, without controversy (win against Arsenal).
And about group A, at moment Bayern and Galatasaray seem favorite teams for qualification, the game in Istanbul can be decisive. With a Turkish win, the group could be open again also to the other two teams, while with a German win, Bayern could be very close to qualification. Some seasons ago, this game would have been treated differently, now it seems there isn't much gap for the Turkish side, even more after the win in Manchester. Massa with the most interesting game therefore in Istanbul, while Guida with a less important one, but still, the losing team could say already goodbye to qualification. Regular appearance for a Category 1.
Which one is the better referee? Guida or Massa.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion this is a very difficult question.
DeleteHaving followed them for years and years, since their early games in serie A, my answer would be still Guida, but he is clearly missing in some aspects that contributed in making Massa a better referee. This must be said especially under the point of viiew of technical decisions.
A short analysis of their profiles would be the following.
Massa: in past years he had a style that I definitely disliked for a very long time. Being just interested in ending game without controversy, applying an extremely lenient approach and sometimes very clever in not taking big decisions, but always with a quite good technical detection of fouls In recent times, he improved and he became a strict referee, at least in some games. He looked to be a totally different referee than the one we saw in past. Nevertheless, every now and then he makes the mistake of being back at what he was (at least, that's my opinion). Keeping the strict approach in combination with his skills, can give him definitely big credit, I think he is aware.
Guida: he always distinguished himself for being very close to players, entering in communication with them, definitely by far more than Massa (as I said before, very often interested only in "his" game, when on the pitch). I know that in this regard Mikael have a different idea about Guida, but to me his management of players has been definitely outstanding at least in domestic games. Nevertheless, his weak point is very often the technical aspect, with some evident crucial mistakes and not always a perfect foul detection (he had a poor game in Inter - Bologna, missing evident penalty and other minor situations). But in terms of acceptance and smartness he is very good. Also, troubles with many injures he got during the years, he never found a long time of excellence.
To sum up, the best referee would be a result of Massa and Guida different aspects, merged together :) In a long-term analysis, since crucial decisions and technical accuracy can definitely ensure more success than ability to manage players, given the current trend of refereeing (interested only in the outcome of crucial incidents, no matter how referee did the rest), one should admit that Massa wins in this regard. But I'm sure with more luck, Guida could have had an Elite career as well... having said that, to me Guida is by far better than Mariani, who is now fighting for Elite spot, but that's the life. You must be not only in the right place, but in the right moment.
Is it so clear regarding Guida and Mariani anymore?
DeleteThis season, Guida already got his 2nd CL game, while Mariani has none. Guida had an EL play-off, Mariani didn't.
And they are nearly the same age.
Thank you very much Chefren for your detailed comparison 👋
DeletePhilipp, you are right about the age of the two and indeed that's particular, but my idea is that if they wanted to promote Guida, they would have done that before. And... looking at the assignments of Mariani, it looked to me they had planned him for a possible promotion. We will see what will happen on December, but I would say no promotions to Elite for Italian referees, at least at moment.
DeleteNo CL games for Mariani so far should be related to the perfomances he showed on last season but possible that we will see him on MD4...
Szymon Marciniak said in one of the interviews that his goal now is the Euro 2024 Final. What do you think about it?
ReplyDeleteIMO clearly the front runner is Orsato, he would be get same designated matches as Kuipers in 2020, Marciniak still 42 or 43, it would be fairy ending for him if he will be in the middle of Wembley in 2028.
DeleteSurely UEFA can’t lose (again) “very trusted elite referees” in short time (next year)
DeleteAnd does the final mean a loss for Marciniak for UEFA? After all, he is currently the best referee in the world, with two grand finals under his belt. There's still some time until the Euro, so anything can happen! We will see what the meeting schedule will be, what his competitors will look like, and what the political conditions will be.
DeleteFor me anybody but Orsato and Marciniak would be passable
DeleteWhy?
DeleteIn reply to Anonymous about MR Marciniak.
DeleteThey are some excellent referees in Uefa.
Yes he is an excellent referee.
But they are others in the group too.
Political conditions should not come into this.
The best referees should be their.
A man like Darren Cann is very rare, if Marciniak get 2024 Euro final and then surely Arab money or retired are very possible, I’m not try to discredit Marciniak, with all respect surely he’s one of the best referees ever and the best referee performance on WC final so far, but in 2024 he still 43, he still could appear in 2028.
DeleteWhats Darren Cann got to do with anything
DeleteHis longevity on the field, after many top accomplishments
DeleteDarren Cann is no longer on the fifa list probably retire end of season
DeleteMr Cann is still an assistant referee in the English Premier League this season and is the best assistant in English football .
DeleteMany assistant referees should look at him style of running the line and learn from him .When he was on the FIFIA list he was in the top 3 in the world .
He isn't the best assistant in English football anymore.
DeletePathetic second yellow in the Roma Monza game. Its not just in England where the refs are utter clowns
ReplyDeleteIf this is the general level of refereeing in Italy (and IMO it is) why are there still 2 italian refs in CL tuesday. Pathetic....
DeleteBecause Rosetti is the boss
DeleteVery hurry second YC by Ayroldi, in my opinion he still struggles, never finding a clear line in his games. On paper, you can justify this as reckless and it would be sufficient condition to say OK (but not SPA), nevertheless in reality it is a YC that shouldn't have been issued. He has been attacked by players after his decision. From such circumstances you can see why he, as very promising young referee, never got big matches and the "expected" FIFA badge, he is very far away from that. He can't find a compromise for a good officiating, it is like he has always something to show to somebody.
DeleteHaving said that, based on this performance, I think you can't comee to the conclusions by Anonymous at 13:18, but that's easy to write...
Turpin without Brisard is somehow remarkable. I can't recall the last time he had another VAR.
ReplyDeleteDidn't he have Irrati at some point last season
DeleteHe had Hernandez in R16 Milan-Tottenham this year.
DeleteBut indeed surprising that the French VARs are in that order.
Letexier often worked with non-French VARs (Irrati, San, Kwiatkowski) in recent times.
Which UEFA referees are the most trusted by the committee at the moment?
ReplyDeleteAt moment Turpin seems to be nr. 1 (all very good in recent games, unless missed second YC in England - Italy).
DeleteTo follow I see Marciniak, maybe on a similar level than the French, but he had the famous Cl final incident and he was a bit under criticism for that. Easy to see that Orsato comes as other name to be mentioned.
Chefren, do you think Turpin is better than Marciniak? Are you serious?
DeleteIt is not about the fact that one is better than the other, I didn't say that, the question was who is at moment the most trusted by committee, my answer was related to the current consideration by committee (similar for the Polish and the French) but not in the detail of their technical skills.
DeleteSo you think that the trio: Turpin, Marciniak and Orsato enjoy the greatest trust of the commission at this point?
DeleteWhat incident in the Champions League final are you talking about? did I miss something? Szymon got good reviews from the match
DeleteAbsolutely: Turpin, Marciniak, Orsato and then there is a gap.
Deletewhat about Taylor?
DeleteTaylor big trust by committee, among the very top Elite, but at moment quite poor period for him.
DeleteAylordi did not whistle for a foul outside the Monza penalty area
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think with Petrescu, I think since last season he got “many” UCL and quite sonorous match in UEL/UECL, can Romanian have 3 elite referees or Petrescu be like Matej Jug, very very solid category 1 referee?
ReplyDeleteWell, for me the management of Petrescu is quite strange, I must be honest. CL debut happened when it was rather unexpected by all people, I don't remember committee members observing him in important games, but still... this of course is not something against the referee, but for others it wasn't so easy to get a debut. Maybe, I can just say this as argument for discussion, with Hategan out it was possible for Romania to have a second referee in Champions League... we should wait for the future to see what will happen, at moment it seems he is not under focus by committee but just getting such suitable CL games for him...
DeleteIt will be quite interesting to compare Romanian referees' categories and appointments before and after Vassaras became the boss! Also, compare that to other similar east or central European federations without UEFA RefCom involvement and you get the answer...

ReplyDeleteVincic psg milan confirmed by slovenian fa
ReplyDeleteSerie A debut tonight for Paride Tremolada in Udinese vs Lecce.
ReplyDeleteStill a lot of room for improvement in my opinion, no clear foul line detection, missed a few obvious fouls, YC and corners.
Clips with the two most interesting situations from this game:
Min 5' - possible missed RC for Kabasele (UDI) for DOGSO:
https://streamable.com/pcqs1o
Min 72' - possible penalty for Lecce (no foul given):
https://streamable.com/5d9bbm
Not a perfect debut for sure, some things must be reviewed, but I wouldn't be extremely negative about his performance.
DeleteI can agree with SPA in 5', expected decision, and NO PENALTY in 72', I think that contact ended outside.
The penalty whistled to Udinese is interesting situation as well, excellent application of wait and see with a possible goal to be scored, and then he whistled the penalty. Unluckily for him, it looks like very soft if not wrong... but given the action, you are expected to whistle thinking about a clear foul.
He will have other opportunities in future, surely one could have expected more, but he wasn't totally poor.
The penalty for Udinese - min 48'
Deletehttps://streamin.me/v/7010f945/o
For me penalty is the correct call, maybe soft but still very reckless tackle from Lecce defender, so expected decision.
The penalty appeal in min 72 is an interesting situation, Tremolada seemed to be ready to whistle but he stopped in the last moment.
Overall it was not a totally poor performance, but also not a great debut. In his defence the game turned out to be more challenging than expected, with lots of phyiscal contacts in the 2nd half.
Looking at the remaining games, it is difficult to find games for Michael Oliver and Anthony Taylor without them having repeat appointments.
ReplyDeleteIn Matchweek 5- seems Oliver doing 1,3,5 and Taylor the others so Attwell can be their VAR. Only options without repeating teams are Napoli vs Union Berlin and Shakhtar vs Antwep and Athetlico Madrid vs Feyenoord
For Taylor in 4 he should get Benefica vs Real Sociedad. Then in 6 assuming no italian team, Union Berlin vs Real Madrid the only possibility
Massa with a good yc for kicking the ball away
ReplyDeleteAgree,I like that he has no thoughts about it,straight away fiven,as it should be.
DeleteEnglish style implented righ there. 😀
*Implemented 😀
DeleteGood decision by Massa in 14', to book a player for a reaction, kicking the ball away after a whistle. Something that very often the Italian referee didn't do in recent times, I think that he is aware that now he is in focus after Velasco Carballo observation in EURO qualifiers...
ReplyDeleteNow penalty,maybe YC missed also?
ReplyDeleteThe penalty assigned to Galatasaray is not clear to me, still needing more replays, but it looked that tackle was not targeted on opponent, it was rather the latter to create the contact, he also jumped.
ReplyDeleteUS commentators called it very soft and I tend to agree with that. Leaning towards no penalty but no clear mistake. Don't like Massa's body language though. Seems to be impacted by the crowd.
ReplyDeletePenalty is definitely supportable given the nature of the way Kimmich slides in. For me its a correct penalty. Would be interesting to see what would've happened if it wasn't whistler on field
ReplyDeleteSurely VAR wouldn't have called in case of play on.
DeleteAt the end I agree it is just supportable.
Very strict approach by Massa with yellow cards, it is incredible to notice how a referee can change his style, officiating certain games without any intent to show cards, while in other occasions being so accurate. It also depends on the moments, when you go to officiate a game, but you have nothing to gain in the medium - long term, it is easy that you relax... not the case of Massa today.
What a difference Serie A and Uefa competition makes...
DeleteWebb described it in his book: one style domestically and another one in Europe, according to the different expectations of different heads of refereeing
DeleteNone existent penalty given to Galatasaray. Clear error and Var bottling a decision
ReplyDeleteReally hate this sort of comment. Clearly made by someone who is biased towards one team.
DeleteAnyone who has any sort of neutrality and a pair of eyes for that matter can see that Kimmoch goes in for.an unnecessary challenge. We can debate the level of contact but calling it "non existent" is just ludicrous
The referees on the pitch and in the VAR didn't understand that the penalty against Galatasaray was wrong, but you understood it from the TV. Congratulations to you. You should have been a referee. LOL. This is a serious Blog. Comments are made objectively, not as fans.
DeleteA serious blog. Yet you choose to use hyperbolic language like "non existant" and "bottling"
DeleteIf the foul was called on Kim, then absolutely correct by VAR to support. If it was called on Kimmich however, an intervention is mandatory considering he stamped on his foot
ReplyDelete43 min clear missed penalty holding. Penalty was for Salzburgg. Holding both hands and missed yellow card. I am in shock, VAR?? Lexetier had a good view
ReplyDelete43.min..Salzburg clear disadvanteged by referee! Penalty!
DeleteYes for me the same. 100% penalty missed by the French referee 43 minute
ReplyDelete61 min for me a soft penalty. Long check VAR. For you guys? For me no penalty. Not a great night for the French ref
ReplyDeletehttps://dubz.cc/c/c2e76a
DeleteHere the penalty call.
For me correct penalty. Careless foul, nothing more, nothing less
DeleteDear Chefren can you please put video 43 min holding?
ReplyDeleteWhen available!
DeleteAnd Chefren?
DeleteI dont know what to say about Massa.
ReplyDeleteTotally different halves.
1st half very strict,2nd half very lenient...
82 min penalty missed Massa. But that’s my feeling, last replay you see the feet keeper Galatasaray clear touch, i only doubt dogso?
ReplyDeleteKeeper clearly touch the ball, never a penalty. VAR intervention mandatory if given
Delete82 min cancel goal 3-1 VAR. Ass 2 Letexier
ReplyDeleteMissed YC in Manchester for throwing the ball away
ReplyDeleteGuida blows whistle 17 secs early
ReplyDeleteI think, because of the failed kick off, UEFA restarted their clock but Guida didn't
DeleteBecause he started his watch when he blew his whistle at the beginning of the game, where Hojlund encroached the half of Copenhagen. So they had to redo the kickoff
DeleteHalf time blew 15secs early in Manchester
ReplyDeleteI'm watching Peljto, an easy going first half with two correct yellow cards, not a challenging game. Temas focused on playing football and rather boring game. Correctly disallowed goal by AR2.
ReplyDeleteGuida with a solid first half performance. But why the rush to end the first half tho? About 44.:45. Must be a record that a ref ends the first half before 45 mins
ReplyDeleteStopping the half before 45? How is that allowed. Surely Guida can't do that
ReplyDeleteHow has Oliver been?
ReplyDeleteI watch him! Very impressive performance from him! Hope he is surely returning back to his form 👏
DeleteVery good simulation caution to Lamela by Glenn Nyberg, the Swede perfectly reading what was a clear attempt to deceive him into awarding a penalty by the Sevilla player.
ReplyDeleteMarco Guida gives a corner, looks like a clear goal kick. Ends up changing it, not sure if AR2 could have seen it or not, perhaps Irrati gave a subtle hint, maybe the Fourth Official/AR1
ReplyDeleteWell he shouldn't have changed it...
DeleteNo, on closer replay Keeper got a touch
Deletehttps://streamff.co/v/yAA24QU-Jk
ReplyDeleteHere the possible penalty for Salzburg in Letexier game.
I must say that right in front of him, this looks to be something very clear to be whistled, but the question is about the ball in play or not.
If you stop the video before the kick from corner, you see that Austrian player is already falling out, maybe most of the holding is over. Nevertheless, it is not sure whether the action ends exactly when ball enters in play. I would say this was a miss by Letexier in taking preventive actions before the execution of the corner, he allowed players to do that, I fear that VAR was unsure whether this was a foul with ball in play or not, so no intervention. Had happened a bit later after the coming of the ball, maybe different assessment.
Apart from that, can't find other explanations, because clear action by defender.
Second half for Peljto as a bit more challenging than the first, but still not very difficult. He gave a bonus to a player from Union Berlin at the beginning of second half, not booking him but then all correct cards followed. Also, in the middle of second half good management of a short moment of tension between players, in such circumstances he gives the idea of having similar skills to Mazic. Very firm, not influenced by players reaction, minimizing the incidents under the eyes of the players with a convincing body language in a rather calm appearance.
ReplyDeleteAll in all, another good game for him.
I thought he was a little overly strict 60th-75th minute (basically not allowing any physical contact) but realised himself in the end and adapted.
DeleteAlso for me missed YC for di Lorenzo (carrying the ball away for like 30 metres) which lead to a confrontation. The confrontation was solved brilliantly though.
90+5 Penalty to Copenhagen in Manchester
ReplyDeleteShocking…
DeleteYes! Right decision
DeleteJustice that Onana stopped it
DeleteI did not see a contact to be honest. From what I could see, it should have been an indirect free kick rather than a penalty.
DeleteA good decision indeed
DeleteClearly contact, a clear penalty
DeleteIt is worth mentioning that a Man Utd player destroyed the penalty spot before Guida received confirmation from his VAR
DeleteGood performance by English crew in Braga tonight. 2 goals disallowed correctly on field for offside, and a focused display from Oliver with consistent, clear foul detection throughout.
ReplyDeleteAdded time needs to improve...
DeleteReal wasted many seconds and Oliver should have added atleast half or full minute.
Suprising to see that from english crew cause in my mind english refs are the best when it comes to time management.
Oliver was absolutely amazing to watch ! Foul detection was super and really focused!
DeleteOnly failed to punish Madrid on time wasting, he could have added much time!
Overall Oliver was a joy to watch.
Yes that would be the one blemish, I remember he did similar in Man City vs Aston in the famous game where City won the PL title in 21-22, blew his whistle at least 30 seconds early in that game
DeleteFantastically Oliver. He comes back to the top 🔝
DeleteTurpin with his classic performance-talking,being respected and as lenient as he can be.
ReplyDelete3 cards showed, could have showed 3 or many more.
But overall,ok performance.
And elustondo could have gotten a 2yc i have to say as a Fan of sociedad. I think he did not give It because he should have Just called a foul in favour of elustondo two seconds before. I speak about the Situation in Minute 77 or so
DeleteOverall, there were very good performances tonight. Oliver, Turpin and Nyberg really have the players' trust and respect. Nice to se.
ReplyDeleteYes, Oliver and Turpin - good referee. I don’t know Nyberg, to new for me to see. Bravo Oliver and Turpin 👍
DeleteReally impressed with Nyberg. Wasnt the hardest game but a hot atmosphere and he had great authority and presence throughout
ReplyDeleteLol :), I was not so impressed. And after Ireland - Greece it looks the same. But that’s my opinion. Nyberg have to be careful with his attitude. He is a OK ref, but not Marciniak!!!
DeleteGlad to read more positive comments about Michael Oliver, feeling happy for him because English referees are under so much pressure after conceded to have lost form!
ReplyDeleteHope Michael Oliver comes back to his famous best level 👌
https://streamff.co/v/yAA24QU-Jk
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for the clip Chefren. If I stop the clip when ball is in play it is still 100% holding and a penalty. Missed by Letexier and VAR. And it was not the only defender who was holding. By bar 1 another holding from Inter player. So they had 2 chances…
I agree penalty missed by Letexier
DeletePeljto: could have booked Napoli player for his deliberate action against opponent, but it was rather something soft, if you ask me, ok to solve with management.
