  1. Remarkable, that Turpin and Dabanovic get a second game.

On the other hand, no game for Makkelie, Kabakov, Krogh and Lambrechts.

    1. Krogh first game i danish superliga this year was cancelled sunday. Due to the condition on the pitch.. Could that Mean something that the danish league first started last weekend??

    2. Makkelie probably injured or a failed UEFA fitness test.

It also explains why he looked a bit sloppy in 2025.

    3. Can't imagine Makkelie being injured or failed a fitnesstest, because in our competition he is also not allowed to referee iff he fails a test....and he recently refereed Ajax-Feyenoord, and is also sceduled for next weekend...

    4. @Eric: the UEFA Fitness test was shortly after Ajax-Feyenoord. As part of the UEFA course in Athens (2-4 Feb). The domestic fitness test is a different (and easier) one.

In Ajax-Feyenoord, I noticed that Makkelie didn’t run his usual angles and was heavily depending on his assistants. I noticed the same in Benfica-Barcelona.

Additionally, the Netherlands has just 2 referees appointed in the play-off round, while for example a small nation like Slovenia has 3.
To add, Turpin got a double appointment. 4 French referees, 5 games. That is why I think Makkelie didn’t run or failed the test in Athens.

  2. I am surprised by Dabanovic appointment. So Rosetti liked his performance in Istanbul.

  3. Do you think that Turpin in Cyprus' derby is a replacement ? Strange to me to be appointed here after an excellent City-Real

  4. It was discussed a few days ago that how great time the French referees are having. I start to believe that the success of Turpin and Letexier have a "pull" power for other referees and they just also raise their level by having such great referees around. Remarkable to see all Turpin, Letexier, Bastian and Brisard appointed this week.

Fun note: Turpin did not hand out a single YC or RC in his last two international appearances. (Aston Villa - Celtic and Manchester City - Real Madrid) I highly doubt it that this trend will continue now :-)
I think his appointment is totally justified, this can be a very hot game, however bit strange observer pairing.

    1. Not surprised cause Turpin is in question in terms of YC's,one of the more lenient refs that can manage control.
