ReplyDeleteThe former football referee and current UEFA observer from the Faroe Islands Niklas á Líðarenda, died after a short illness at the age of 69.
On last February, Niklas was honored at the Sports Festival with the Poul E. Petersen Certificate of Honor for his great work in Faroese sports for a lifetime. In the picture above he receives the award from Elin Heðinsdóttir Joensen, president of the ISF.
Niklas á Líðarenda played a major role in Faroese football refereeing for more than 40 years. He refereed over 1,000 matches and served as a referee, assistant referee, 4th referee and observer. As a referee observer for UEFA, he visited 54 of the 55 member countries.
He worked hard to develop Faroese football refereeing, and he was always ready to give good advice and support to young referees.
Since Niklas retired as a referee, he has worked as referee trainer and instructor, and he allowed several hundred people to become referees in Faroe Islands. He has also developed refereeing at all levels in Iceland and abroad.
In addition, Niklas has served on the FSF's refereeing committee, where he has also moved the refereeing process in the Faroe Islands forward, and was also once acting president of the FSF.
Niklas married Sonja Gregersen in Norðragøta. They had two daughters, Poulu and Barbara, and a son, Jan.
Sad, RIP 🕊️

DeleteMy deepest condolences, rest in peace!
DeleteRIP and deepest condolences to family and friends. He was surely a great refereeing person pushing Faroer refereeing forwards.
DeleteToday is the day of extraordinary, decisive Derby de Lisboa. Both SL Benfica and Sporting CP have 78 points and are fighting for the title in the second last matchday of Liga Portugal. As expected, João Pinheiro will be the referee. Can't wait :)
ReplyDeleteLess than 48 hours after his ECL SF…
Deletehttps://x.com/VARHub/status/1921233922425286967 Handball not given by Darren England after being sent to the screen by Michael Salisbury (original decision no handball). Rare situation in the PL where the referee sticks with his original decision.
ReplyDeleteSo different world comparing to UEFA. To be honest, I can't imagine no penalty here. :D
DeleteIt's very different from Lewis-Skelly/Hakimi situation in CL.
DeleteHere in EPL case the arm is going to the back but not quickly enough, it's not a shoot to the goal, and point of contact is much closer to the shoulder than in Lewis-Skelly case. Hard decision, not surprised by the original decision sticking.
