  1. Two remarks.
Moen having his debut as UEFA Observer at this tournament, I think he was never appointed before. And this is surely remarkable. Given his extremely long experience of a rather "recent" Elite referee and maybe still active in Norway until a few time ago, he can surely start from a different position than others.
About Italy, once again after the change of assistant referees Colombo had for the CONMEBOL tournament, now the previous one, he was a NO FIFA, Ceccon, has been replaced by a FIFA one (Perrotti). It seems it happened again that AIA made a wrong choice by sending a NO FIFA, if UEFA left the choice to the respective domestic federations about the assistant referees. He was indeed the only NO FIFA official at this tournament. Very poor management by AIA that seems to have also lost experienced people in terms of international assignments and duties.

  4. We need VAR for all the competitions organised by UEFA. I don't think so, that UEFA has no money for using VAR in this competition. A lot of controversial situations was last night in Romania vs Spain game, with Henessy. A possible penalty for Romanian, and also a goal dissalowed for offside after a corner kick, but with didn't see a replay. Very poor broadcasting by Uefa the game, we didn't saw a lot of replays. I think, Spain didn't need help from the referee.

    1. I have to say I never saw worse broadcast of UEFA tournament. Almost no replays of important calls.

  5. Spanish referee in Germany's third group stage game was not that smart considering they now play each other.
Due to injuries Germany miss some players, but also Wätjen who got his second yellow card in the tournament for running onto the pitch as one of many after injury time winner (lack of awareness?) and the coach who said in an interview that the fouth official immediately apologized to him saying "I am sorry. That was nothing"

  6. The yc for Konadu in minute 19 says everything that you want to know about Colombo performance

Reason of the card: theatrical fall.
This is Colombo, a refere with a maybe too big personality and he doesn't want to be deceived on the pitch. He is very harsh with players. He can absolutely remind of Maresca and his style. He doesn't look for any compromise. This can be the limit, but this is also the reason why he is the best at moment among the Italian referees, big courage in taking all decisions.
Very often I think, if I say to a referee that he should change in this regard, he wouldn't be anymore the same (good) referee, we had the example with Maresca...

    2. Im sorry but yc for a theatrical fall(?) is a crazy here. I understand what you're saying about his personality. I haven't seen him whistle much but he's very present. This is personally not quite my taste

    3. I don’t think it was given for a theatrical fall, because a DFK was awarded to the defensive team instead of an IFK.
But whatever the reason, theatrical fall or foul, a blatantly wrong decision in my view.

    4. I think it's clear he called a reckless stamp on the Romanian defender, and I'm okay with the decision based on available footage.

  7. Any word on Lothar D’hondt?

  8. The final is ESP - NED.
No Alberola Rojas, so either the Cypriot or the Bosnian.

    1. Antoni Bandic (BIH) had had two very solid games so far, with some very brave decisions.

  11. I'm very glad for Hennessey; it's extremely rare see a referee from Ireland, Northen Ireland and Wales attend a final match. Well done

  12. Very good appointment for the Ireland referee. When was the last time if any a referee from N Ireland or Wales refereed a UEFA Final ?

  14. What a moment for Hennessy with a denied penalty appeal for Spain in the 95th minute with the score 1-0 for the Netherlands. It was very decisive for the result. After the final whistle he looked lost, he seemed unable to cope with the constant pressure from Spain on him. Constantly complaining about the referee has been clearly part of the education in Spain as you see this u19 team

  15. Even with constant pressure from Spain for me it is penalty kick. If defender makes a contact with the ball it is minimal and not without foul first

  16. Video:

The penalty incident in the very last minute of the game, classic mobbing by Spanish side before and after final whistle, with referee clearly in trouble to face them.
Somebody worked after the final whistle to allow a regular medals' ceremony.
Should be always unacceptable, but in that moment surely created more embarrassment.

  17. For me it was strange that Henessy was selected for the final. Because he also had problems in Romania vs Spain, when he didn't award a penalty for the home team and dissalowed a goal for offside, but we didn't see the replay. For me it was the worst Euro 19 broadcasting by Uefa. And who pushed Henessy for the final? Here, in Romania wasn't any comitte member, except for Kuipers in semifinals. I liked Colombo more than Henessy.

    1. Colombo already whistled the Youth League final this season.

Alberola Rojas would have been appointed to officiate the final, had Spain not disrupted the plans.
