  1. Muhammad Ash-Shammari... No comment needed.

Very inexperienced pool of officials from UEFA. Saggi and Van der Eijk shine last months but others?

    1. The UEFA squad is rather uninspiring but it seems like FIFA effectively treats the new U17 format as a fourth-tier tournament in terms of refereeing. The level has being dropping steadily in the last few cycles.

In 2009 U17 WC (drawing a parallel to the tournament played the year before WC) the UEFA representatives were Webb, Busacca, Lannoy, Stark, Kassai & Ovrebo, i.e. all Elite and only the latter didn't attend WC the following year. And from other confederations, the likes of Irmatov, Amarilla, Maillet, Damon, Pozo & Batres attended too.

In 2013, none of the UEFA representatives ended up attending the WC as main ref, but in terms of continental reputation the squad was much better than this one: Stark, Rocchi, Clattenburg, Královec, Moen & Thomson.

In 2017 there was a mix between Elite (Turpin, Hategan, Sidiropoulos) & First (Vincic, Taylor, Soares Dias & Madden), only Turpin attended WC.

(Due to COVID there was no U17WC in 2021)

  2. Very small room for injuries or poor performances in the group stage. With 48 teams in the tournament, all but two of there referees has to referee on all three gameweeks...

  3. I don't understand the UEFA selection.
Can someone explain this list to me?
Colombo and Vergoote are too early for me.
