  1. Referees who handled games in Arabia this weekend:

    UAE - Kovacs
    Saudi - Badstubner
    Egypt - Alberola Rojas

As for Alberola, I watched his game on Saturday evening (Al-Ahly Cairo vs. FC Pyramids) and he had a good performance in a match of generally normal difficulty.

    1. Chefren, do you expect a promising future based on what you've seen from Alberola? And how do you think UEFA views him currently?
      without any previous qualifying matches.

    2. I think that UEFA has a big expectation.
He attended the Under 19 tournament and he is included in Talent and Mentor for 2025. Surely they want him as Spain next Elite referee.
So it's up to his career!
Very important to see which games he will get on next months, during the league phase of clubs competitions.
Conference League debut on last December.
I think that it's possible in case of good performance, and maybe after one or two further Conference League games, he could even get an EL debut (we will see).

      2) I refuse, and will always refer to Spanish referees by their two surnames, don't care about the Francoist origin of the practice and yadda yadda. Utter woke nonsense by new CTA-RFEF.

    2. In Spain, starting this season, referees are known only by their first and last names, as in the rest of Europe. Second surnames are no longer used.
Example: ALBEROLA ROJAS becomes JAVIER ALBEROLA

    RC dicision after VAR intervention

What do you think? Daan Rots would have had a good chance to shoot if he hadn't been taken down, and I think it's hard to deny that. I think the logical conclusion was for RC to call a foul. However, the KNVB's prosecutor gave up on seeking a suspension for RC, saying that the foul is not sufficiently proven.

Perhaps it's the same as when Feyenoorder Givairo Read was acquitted by the disciplinary committee a few months ago. I cannot understand this at all, but it seems that in the Netherlands today, it is impossible to prove such foul play with video footage. Well, the KNVB's referee committee, the referees on the field, and the VARs indoors probably won't care at all. By the way, until the fourth matchround Kamphuis as VAR had already called the referee monitor 3 times and forced to give 3 RCs. In my opinion, all of them were correct.

    1. To be honest, I’m not entirely convinced this should be seen as a clear-cut foul. The nature of the challenge could just as well be interpreted as an unfortunate collision. A VAR intervention + RC feels excessive in this context, especially considering the location on the pitch — out wide, near the edge of the box.

By contrast, Read’s foul struck me as a much clearer case of tripping. That he ultimately escaped punishment was, in all likelihood, down to Feyenoord’s lawyer and the timing within the season — the penultimate match.

    2. I completely agree with you, as this must not necessarily be considered as a foul. However, for me the VAR intervention is 100% necessary. For me there are two possible outcomes in this situation: it‘s either no foul/play on or foul —> DOGSO and consequently a red card. In case the foul is whistled and no red card is issued, I fully expect an intervention as this is no possible outcome to this scene considering the LotG and therefore a clear and obvious error. I still think the foul decision itself is not a clear error, so DFK/RC when decided on field should stand (same if no foul was whistled). Once at the monitor the referee still has the option to make the no foul call, instead of deciding to give a red card.

    3. Agreed on the discussion as to whether or not a foul is committed, both could be argumented Imo, but this is a clear (clear!) Dogso scenario (all boxes ticked without any doubt). So a free kick + Yc can’t be an accepted solution, which makes an intervention mandatory. Then after Ofr no foul or free kick + Rc could be the possible outcomes.

    4. I also agree that this is not 100% a foul play, and the decision that this is a foul play is not 100% error, so it was 'logical' for VAR to intervene as a DOGSO case. Unfortunately, in recent years, the KNVB's disciplinary committee has tended to avoid taking disciplinary action, even if it is not 100% error, saying that it is 'not sufficiently proven to be foul play.' This time, the prosecutors followed that line, which is probably the first time in my memory.

As I've written here before, most football fans blindly believe that the disciplinary committee is always right and continue to criticise silent refereeing committees, referees and VARs.
