It will be interesting to see how kavanagh does in this match he had a bit of a mare in the fa cup this week and has been heavily criticized for the performance
ReplyDeleteLooks like Kavanagh is a replacement for Brooks judging by the AR's and the fact that no other elite is doing a game (Grinfeeld technically is but UEFA treat him as a cat 1)
ReplyDeleteI can say that based on how he had been managed so far, until today and before knowing this assignment, I would have expected him in Europa League indeed, like the other New elite, and not in Conference. So, it's possible. But in that case, how many problems for Brooks in recent times?

In the games I've seen him this season I think he hasn't been at a good level unfortunately. UEFA seem to see Jones as the best Cat 2 English referee but I think like Brooks has had a few poor games this year.

Thomas brammell has had a great season he will be next for the bags and there have been a few young refs making there debut this season so will have to see how they develop

DeleteCrazy that anyone thinks Gillett shouldn’t be considered. Has previous high-level FIFA experience with Australia and has had good games and performances in England. Clearly a very good referee and really should be pushed more by UEFA,

Overall, until the last five minutes the game didn't offer almost any challenge under disciplinary point of view. The key decisions in 12', 18' and 79' were excellent refereeing by the Azeri - very alert and clear communication. I think he can make it to the elite.

The only remark is that he shouldn't have made advantage gesture even after the goal, everything can always happen, but this is a detail. Basically in this case the Austrian showed a very good attitude in reading the moment of the game.

I have doubts about the assessment regarding the further plans: in the Champions League, Sebastian Gishamer made his debut simultaneously with Sven Jablonski, who is clearly ranked a class above him (and is now an Elite referee). My impression is that Sebastian Gishamer was only tested once in the Champions League, while afterwards he was used again as in the previous season: in the Europa League group stage and in the Conference League knockout stage. I rather expect that the Europa League from the next round onwards will be largely reserved for the Elite referees. If the intention had been to use him at a 'higher' level, he could have been used in the Europa League intermediate round. From my gut feeling, I would say that perhaps another assignment in the Conference League round of 16 might be possible – after that, probably nothing more.
