  1. Good YC n°9 UZB. Outside Penalty Box.
But it was a chaos to place the different walls. Ruben Dias was furious

    1. The referee was right ,there has to a metre between the Uzbek wall and the Portuguese players.

  2. 20' n°24 UZB second foul. Possibly a YC with a hand in the face

    1. Hand in face?
Honestly in my opinion a simulation should be discussed.
Yes, there is contact between arm/hand and body, but not in face and the player exaggerates the contact by pretending a hit in face. Nothing new. However, since the referee didn't book, VAR was silent. But this would have been an extremely interesting one to see in case...

  3. I m very very fed up with this « non foul whistled » policy. On the last action, blatant FK missed.

  4. Good spot with free kick and YC at the edge of penalty area when Portugal scored 2-0, not good when he called the free kick for illegal use of arm, for me mistake.

    1. I watched the foul again. The contact is very clear. Good decision imo

  5. Is this referee going to deem any actions by the Portuguese worthy of a foul ,currently missed 3 so far.

  6. 28' Possible YC for reckless, but Collina and Busacca very happy here with only foul whistled.

  7. I'm sorry but that a rather poor foul to miss, VAR bailing out Jayed there.

    1. It is. A rather simple safe foul to give, right infront of him. Great strike, but clear foul. Still, at least his announcement made sense

  8. On the bright side, a well explained on field announcement

  9. "The best announcement after Ivan Barton

  10. Good announcement but Schoolboy error in terms of missing that on field.

  11. We have the first OFR for a "normal" foul in the app, before a goal scored. Correct call by VAR, evident foul.
Should have been spotted by officials. It's not good for the final assessment.

  12. Apparently today the var is working...

  13. FK before hydration break poorly managed with the defender just inside the penalty area. Better to keep them outside and prevent handball. Potential spa by Portugal
Player lucky attacker turned to face own goal before foul. How he doesn’t see the free kick before the goal is strange. Lacking personality in dealing with players

  14. And here is the perfect illustration of the mess created by this policy of never calling fouls. Then suddenly VAR steps in — one time out of 25, when a much clearer foul wasn’t even spotted yesterday to disallow an Argentine goal at 1–0 — and Uzbekistan are denied a goal, whereas ALL the major nations have benefited from VAR non-intervention in similar situations.

Of course, when it’s Messi, everyone suddenly turns a blind eye. It’s complete nonsense. Absurd.

    1. Agree. That's what FIFA is after: videos, reels, reactions, etc., viral football focused on the stars. Forget about the game.

    2. So basically, your general point might make some sense, but you have to admit that all VAR are different. Even when instructions are given, there is still a personal point of view involved. You cannot say that the same VAR, if the incident had involved Messi and Argentina, for example, would necessarily have made the same decision. VAR itself is a fully imperfect system, and I will always repeat that.
I agree that there are some nuances very hard to understand, because in other cases similar fouls are allowed to continue, but a certain degree of trust in the refereeing component should always be maintained. I would also like to point out, just let's mention Gallo, that South American VARs seem somewhat more inclined to intervene in ordinary match situations like today, whereas UEFA VARs tend to be more restrained and silent. That is also not good, but the only way to solve this one, believe me, is to abolish VAR (I'm not talking for that).

    3. In CONMEBOL the VAR intervenes in situations where it should not intervene and there are, in some cases, too many interventions to calm the players' spirits than situations of obvious and manifest errors. So Gallo and Lara have become very good VAR referees because they intervene in those types of situations that are not even considered in UEFA.

The Moroccan referee has his faults. He didn't react, this was the scenario in which it was possible to guess that Uzbekistan was about to steal the ball. He didn't run properly and he missed everything, should have been seen and this will be, in my opinion, the analysis Collina will make with him.

  16. This referee is completely lost and can't impose himself either technically or disciplinarily.
The Uzbek player complaining to his face and he doesn't punish him with YC, counter-attack for Uzbekistan before the hydration break and the Portuguese player stopping the opponent's run, also without YC. And now, he misses a clear foul before the goal is disallowed. A bad first half from the Moroccan referee.

    1. The Portuguese players have equally been in the referees face especially Fernandes ,Felix and Ronaldo

  17. Another classic con on the referee by Ronaldo

  18. Cancelo should have been booked, clear YC missed.

Is Jayed afraid of a heavyweight like Portugal?

    ReplyDelete
  19. For me, Jayed has been the worst referee of the World Cup so far. Both of his performances have been far below the standard expected at this level. I don’t think he should receive another match in the tournament.

  20. "I don't get why Sandro Schärer hasn't refereed a single match except for being the 4th official, when such terrible referees are out there officiating."

    ReplyDelete

    1. Agree especially with some 4th officials who are appointed now don’t know why he is staying on the touch line

      Delete
    2. "He's been the 4th official in 5 matches so far. That's got to be a record! :)"

      Delete
    3. He has also been appointed as 4th official for the Curaçao - Ivory Coast match

      Delete
    4. He's Uefa. Uefa are already well represented and Fifa want to show balance and appease other confeds politically. The fact Uefa's 40th best referee is probably at a much higher standard than some at this tournament isn't relevent. (In the same way 100s of teams worldwide were better than Auckland City at the CWC, but they were the best team from their confederation)

      Delete
    5. To use some facts: It's not a record. Kovacs had 8 appointments as 4th in 2022 and even in 2026 there are several officials with a 6th appointment already.

      Delete
    6. @DB "He could've handled at least one match... It's the first time in my life I've seen a ref get 5 consecutive assignments as a 4th official. We're not even halfway through the tournament yet... At this rate, Schärer is going to hit 20 matches as a 4th official."

    7. @HB2300: With constantly posting wrong facts it doesn't help to be seen as someone who is worth a read of your comments.

      Delete
    8. First of all, it is clear that he was choosed only in this role, each confederation has a referee in this role. I agree woth DB above. Probably some of this officials will be sent home after the group stage and their role will be fulfilled by referees with slim chances for KO games.

Secondly, why do you write all your comments between " " HB2300? It is weird, these are your own comments, you don't cite anyone.

  21. Has Cancelo got diplomatic immunity from receiving YC or RC

  22. This performance hasn't been good enough.... basic fouls being missed in multiples

    ReplyDelete
  23. The icing on the cake by touching the ball. Difficult first half for him

    ReplyDelete
  24. Jayed's performance is so depressing that it even prevents Portugal from counter-attacking. lol

    ReplyDelete
  25. Well if I'm honest that was at best unconvincing from Jayed in the first half. If I'm fairer I would say it's been rather poor. Missed fouls and inconsistent level of contact, poor body language and dealing with players (lacks any soft skills), fairly average positioning. The missed foul that was overturned by VAR was the poorest of the lot. Like the Egyptian last night, this should be his last game.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Jayed has missed alot ,been conned by the Portuguese on several occasions and has been in AWE of Ronaldo ,this is not a good look for the World Cup ,You should referee both teams in the same way

    ReplyDelete

    1. He was so in awe of Ronaldo, instead of checking on him when there was a contact I think he missed, he shouted at him to get up. The awe was unmissable. Also when he didn't give the foul live before the disallowed goal, that was so pro-Portugal. (It wasn't a wonderful half, but this is a nonsense)

    2. What blatant decisions has he given to Portugal? Were you silent on the blatant admiration for FIFA's golden boy in both of their matches so far where clear decisions directly involving goals & red cards weren't given against their opponents. Sorry but this blatant double standard just feels very disconcerting to me

    3. Ronaldo fell over from absolutley no contact from Uzbek player and the referee just gives him a freekick

  31. Completely lacking in authority. Can’t engage with the players, Portuguese players running the show. The groundskeeper will not be happy he’s wearing out his pitch running up and down the middle the whole game
