  1. Bellingham, impossible to ignore it.. match can turn into a very challenging and interesting one, absolutely unexpected for the Jordan referee.

  4. Poor start, yellow cards have to be avoided early on in the game.

    1. How is that a poor start? Both are two clear YCs. I am happy to see a referee at this WC showing the mandatory cards even if it is early in the game.

    2. FIFA doesn't want early cards so it's poor refereeing

      Delete
    3. FIFA doesn’t want 50/50 yellows clearly. But I hope that FIFA still wants the laws of the game applied. And according to the laws of the game, those cards were absolutely mandatory

      Delete
    4. I think we shouldn't qualify what FIFA wants nowadays as good refereeing, if anything.

  5. He got fooled by Rashford at 38:00

  6. Very good no penalty decision for handball

  7. Fifa seems to be less strict with Handball then UEFA

  8. YC for diving???????

    Where it is??????

    1. If he is convinced that Kane was diving.

  9. What?? How is this not a penalty

    ReplyDelete
  10. If he's giving a dive it surely has to be a YC. Honestly I'm surprised it wasn't a penalty

    ReplyDelete
  11. Kane kicks the ball and then he gets contact.
    VAR doesn't intervene.
That's excellent for me, but big, big controversy for many people I think!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Phenomenal no penalty. Kane started falling befor contact with the GK

    ReplyDelete
  13. Player was facing away from the ball, and hi arm was up in recovery from contact with the opponent.

  14. Signaled a dive but gave goal kick

  16. Very good no-penalty decision. YC for simulation to be preferred but no surprise considering this tournament.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Simulation no YC and restart by FK ?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Brave and correct call regarding Kane penalty appeal

    ReplyDelete
  19. Where on earth are all the people saying England gets decisions their way? 2 Stone wall penalties denied ?

The handball was clear. Outstretched arm - made his body unnaturally bigger.

Kane clearly fouled there - keeper clatters into his right foot.

  20. Superb no call, but should of course be a YC. If you don't punish diving, what's stopping them from continuing to do it?

    3. Literally every expert on the commentary team & studio are saying it's a pen. It's bizzare people said the Mbappe foul against Senegal is ' clear ' but this is one isn't 🀯

      Delete
    4. Literally every English one? The MbappΓ© situation was far more a foul than this. Clear dive, anyone with eyes and without English bias will agree.

    5. I'm not from England so I don't actually have any English person on commentary.

  21. But why not YC if he is signaling dive?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Masterclass no PK. ENG #9 tripped himself and then he searched for contact.

    ReplyDelete
  23. However, the Jordanian referee should have booked the attacker to show exactly what he had assessed, just play on can be perceived as weak by people who will not understand...

    ReplyDelete
  24. I’m English. It’s not a penalty, well done Makhadmeh

    ReplyDelete
  25. Looking at the replay Kane clearly leaves his leg to buy the PK. Excellent decision not to give it but he was indicating simulation so surely should be giving a YC

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes he makes sure he drags his right foot to make contact with the GK and brings both feet together to dive over.

      Delete
  26. Was going to praise the Jordanian. However you simply cannot punish simulation and not caution. Even signalled dive. Is this a fifa directive to ensure the superstars are in the later games. U only need to see their treatment of Ronaldo with violent conduct which is 2 games suspension reduced to one.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Super decision.... should be praised... hwpever where was the yellow

    ReplyDelete
  28. Great decision by Makhadmeh not to award a penalty

    ReplyDelete
  29. Even if people think no penalty, there was a small nudge from the other defender on Kane before the contact with the keeper. This alone could put him off balance, so I think never a dive

    ReplyDelete
  30. No pk decision was made by AR2 and 100% right call

    ReplyDelete
  31. Rashford is the best DR Kongo player so far.

    ReplyDelete
  32. In the end the only simulation detected was the VAR intervention by Del Cerro in Makkelie game, can you believe that?

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think no YC for Kane is also good decision, because there was contact

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It’s mandatory for simulation. If you go by the contact it’s Kane to the keeper. The keeper is always going to wipe him out. He clearly signals dive he must caution

      Delete
  34. This principle of few VAR interventions is costing England a shot at round of 16 , Half time was a disaster for Ref and very poor VAR

    1. Apparently the anti English sentiment here has many fans thinking Adham was right absolutely wild

      Delete
    2. Completely disagree. Good refereeing by Jordanian referee. Brave with this correct no penalty decision and two Ywc awarded. He should booked Kane but the dive isn’t clearly obvious. So supportable to stay on goal kick.

      Delete
    3. What are you speaking about « anti english feeling » ? Ridiculous !

      Delete
    4. @Referee analyst It's a rhetoric the English have invented to use as an excuse in tournaments, nothing new. Trying to act like victims. Everyone hates us, yadda yadda.

      Delete
    5. Ah yes the reasoning for the disagreement here is not the many well reasoned arguments given in the many comments on this incident but it can only be "anti English sentiment"

      Delete
    6. I am not English btw. But if you just pop by the ENG-GHA thread you'd see many non ' well reasoned arguments ' and just wide attacks on ' England being favoured ' . Funny this .

  35. Masterclass performance in the first half. Well done Makhadmeh!

    ReplyDelete
  36. For me that is the one of the best first halves of the tournament from Makhadmeh. Strong, confident refereeing with good technical sanctions and both YC's very clear. The no penalty decision really is an excellent one. The body language and aftermath less so but overall a very positive performance for me.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I don't tend to put big adjectives, either positive or negative, when describing refreeing performances, but I must say I'm impressed. This was arguably best half of any referee in this tournament. Hope he can maintain same level untill the end.

    ReplyDelete
  38. We comment all games here, talking about being Anti English is a no sense, all readers who believe that this is a simulation, would have written the same thing regardless of the team involved.
That is what is still missing to some readers of this blog, a deep refereeing poit of view, without thinking always at the teams involved... but I must say the level so far, in the competition, has been better than some previous big tournaments. Nevertheless, still somebody convinced about the fact that referees take decisions against some teams...

    1. I don't think the referee are taking decisions against England . But I'm calling out the strange response to certain decisions where the majority of people have been saying that England were protected after the Ghana game. Don't you see the irony of it all?

Also interesting that you're expanding effort to call this out when there have been many on this blog who have made outwardly racist comments about referees from other confederations

      Delete
    2. IMO if England doesn't make Round of 16 it's all the ref and he will make frontpages world-wide the Jordan referee

      Delete
    3. We heard the same about Jayed and Germany and yet… if England gets knocked out it’s all on the players and the coach, plus people talking about the underdog winning.

  39. 51’ missed YC for Wissa, advantage went the wrong way

  40. Foul and YC missed, reckless challenge by Congo player

    ReplyDelete
  41. Potential YC for Wissa missed. Foul for sure.

  42. It is incredibly disappointing to see so many referees here back the no pen call. Stonewall pen every day.

    1. For me it’s way more close than what people said but the only thing for the no PK is that Kane is already falling the there is the contact so imo supportable no call.

      Delete
    2. +200 , is Kane looking for it ? Yes - but that's not a criteria held against the player. The question is if there is contact and that impedes the player and it certainly looks that way.

      Delete
    3. Kane is already falling alone before any contact. Good spot by referee.

      Delete
    4. IMHO a superb no penalty call by the Jordanian referee! And it’s Wayne Rooney in BBC’s half time analysis explaining it perfectly. In slomo it’s clear that Kane stumbles his own foot well before arriving at the goalkeeper, anticipating a self-initiated contact with the goalkeeper’s arm. I love the decision and respect for Mahkhadmeh having recognized this without replay and without slomo!

  43. He doesn’t look impressive in 2nd half. His technical accuracy and disciplinary control are degraded.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Clearest YC ever but he didnt give itπŸ˜†πŸ˜†

    ReplyDelete
  45. Overall in terms of decision making positioning and movement along with his personality a very good referee and performance only blighted by his failure to caution for simulation which is mandatory and he essentially throws away 0.2 with his maximum mark being 8.2 or potential 8.3

    ReplyDelete
  46. A very positive display from the Jordanian referee

    ReplyDelete
  47. A player like Bellingham knows full well that he can stop the attack and commit such a blatant foul in the middle of the pitch without risking a second yellow card. These astonishingly lenient and cowardly instructions also encourage cynical play. It’s disheartening.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. But overall good performance by Jordanian referee. Solid and brave except YC lake by not his responsability.

      Delete
  48. I will be surprised if the Jordan referee gets another game at this tournament

    ReplyDelete
  49. Time and again, clear tactical fouls stopping promising attacks, blatant dissent towards officials, aggressive confrontations, and reckless challenges have gone unpunished or received no proper disciplinary action.

Pierluigi Collina pointing to just two yellow cards for dissent as evidence that there have been “no protests” towards referees completely misses the point.

The protests are happening in almost every match — referees simply are not sanctioning them. Low numbers of bookings do not prove the absence of dissent; they only highlight the failure to enforce it.

And in the end, England going through probably saved the referee from even bigger scrutiny.

Because if England had gone out, with the way the game was managed and the decisions that were made, the reaction — especially from English media — would have been relentless.

Instead, the result shifts the focus away from the officiating, even though many of the same refereeing issues remain.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Poor 2nd half but excellent first... too many key errors with yellow cards being missed and if he gave a free out and dive for Kane no yellow is unforgivable. He could be good to keep as 4O however for me his on field journey is over. This is probably though Collinas ideal performance!

    ReplyDelete
  51. At the end, solid Makhdammeh, can be proud what he accomplieshed on this WC. This possibly will be his last game, but again, he accomplished a lot! Congrats on job he did!
