I suspect that Ajax's matches (just like those of the other major teams in this tournament) might well be used as a key test for referees. In that regard, the appointment for the Ajax-Atalanta match in two weeks' time will also be interesting.

DeleteJohn Brooks was appointed to a Europa League match on Matchday 1 this season, so it’s not surprising that he hasn’t been given another one this round. His Premier League game this weekend is on Saturday afternoon, so I reckon he’s quite likely to get a European appointment next week — possibly even his Champions League debut.

I'm not even sure it's mistaken identity to begin with, you could absolutely argue that the contact is initiated by Twente #6, however reading the actions of Thun #15 as SFP is just comical to me, his foot just bounces off the ground and then the Twente player slides in under it, no force or intensity, but it looks bad on a still picture so I guess that's it...
