  1. For the first time in recent years, a referee gets two games in EL round of 32 both first and second leg. This had never happened for what I remember in the past seasons with Collina. All the referees for Round of 32 in EL were appointed at the same time for the 32 games.
Another change with Rosetti, for sure the performance in Shakhtar - Eintracht has been rewarded there.
At the same time one can think that Taylor will get only Europa League due to VAR missing experience...

    1. Don't you think, these appointments were made before Thursday?
Maybe Taylor is just a replacement in one of the two matches.

    2. It is indeed possible that Skomina was originally planned for Sevilla - Lazio?

    3. Vincic for 1st leg and Skomina for 2nd? Nope.

    2. I wouldn't be surprised if I see another referee who had a 1st leg match, appointed again on a 2nd leg.

      Delete
    3. Hațegan can't referee greek teams. The romanian referee chief is Vassaras, S-o he can't be there. And either referees from Greece are not allowed for Romanian teams.

      Delete
  4. So if I'm not wrong Collum, Karasev, Bastien and Kuipers are the missing Elite referees. They were not appointed at all so far.
Meanwhile, Sidiropoulos will officiate his second game in a week, like Taylor. The match in Naples is for sure not a big assignment, but the Greek finds a second game in a few days. His management by committee is very particular.
Antonio Mateu Lahoz is the first referee with already a game in both competitions, Champions League and Europa Leaguein a so short time.
For Hategan a big match, I think this could be another signal that he wont appear in Champions League, but let's see. In case, really sorry for him. After that excellent group stage... a pity.
What can we say about the missing Elite? Bastien, if I'm not wrong, is out from next Ligue 1 assignments. Maybe an injury? This maybe would justify the presence of another referee who already officiated a game. But at the same time one can also think about performance principle, after Olympiacos - Milan.
I hope that Kuipers is OK. Strange that committee has not appointed him.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You forgot Brych. He is also missing. Like Kuipers I expect him in a CL second leg.

      Delete
    2. Yes, sorry. You are right. So both Kuipers and Brych have been kept for CL second legs. Maybe the difference with Mazic, who got a game, is that Brych and Kuipers officiate regularly in their domestic leagues, while the Serbian has only a few games in Serbia and the first one after the winter break only 3 days ago.

      Delete
    3. I knew something was wrong when i saw Bastien as AAR. I guess he wont get any KO stage game.

      Delete
    4. It seems that the appointments for Taylor and Sidiropoulos were made before the 1st leg results. But Napoli - Zurich could easily be given to a 1st group official.

Important appointment for Kralovec too. Plus a committee member observing.

      Delete
    5. Kuipers has no match in Holland, his ARs are appointed with others. Kuipers may be injured?

      Delete
  5. Hategan is also in a second game, he was last week in Glasgow. And Kovacs get an important match in Zagreb.

  6. Also from 1st group,Bebek was the one who in previous years got matches in zhis phase of competition. Not this year tho and for this year he is done I think.

  8. Does anyone know why it appears that Oliver and Pawson have swapped additional assistants from the group stages. Kavanagh was with Pawson and Tierney was with Oliver in group stages. Now in the knockout stages it is the other way round????

    ReplyDelete

    1. It seems, Kavanagh was injured at the beginning of the year. Maybe he was given one more week for recovery.

  9. Chris Kavanagh is also only just FIFA from January and he is also now AAR for Oliver in EL KO stage.

  10. Minute 17' in Sevilla - Lazio, a very interesting situation.
It could have been penalty for Lazio and RC for DOGSO (not a genuine attempt to play the ball). Taylor played on.

    2. right call by Taylor, nothing wrong there

      Delete
    3. Maybe a foul against the GK should have been whistled though. It seems, he has both hands at the ball, when he is hit by the falling striker.

      Delete
    4. the only point of contact might have been the attacker's right foot but one can not see it on from this video/angle. I did not notice the attacker protesting after the incident, and knowing Lulic, he would have done that if there was a foul. Surely there was a foul against the GK, even in England ;)

  11. Εxcellent onside by AR2 at Sevilla's goal

    ReplyDelete
  12. And now a 2nd YC (RC) by Taylor for Sevilla.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Second YC is a correct decision, player from Sevilla made something like three fouls in a row, trying to stop the opponent, the last attempt was the least blatant, Taylor whistled after that but second YC was overall fully justified.

  14. Straight red from Taylor seems harsh

    2. In my opinion it is a correct decision, I can read a malicious intention by Lazio player. In any case, he could have avoided that, he can't complain for referee's decision.

      Delete
    3. Harsh decision for me, too. I think it was only an unsporting behaviour and no violent conduct as there was no excessive force.

      Delete
    4. Exactly it baffles me to see anyone support this decision.. week in week out worse things are done and d players go unpunished, huge Taylor fan but I 'll call a spade a spade

      Delete
    5. RC looks justified for me. Without VAR to asses the force, on first look it looks like clearly he was throwing an elbow to the face.

      Delete
    6. 100% correct and fully deserved Red Card. More of this and less of the dissecting and nitpicking of "force" or "intention".
The Lazio player knew very well what he was doing amd trying to accomplish by using his elbow in that manner.
Ref_1707 and Iheanacho Chiagozie are the type of referee's that I fear seeing on the pitch. I'm scared for the safety and physical well being of my players when I coach and of my safety and my teammates safety when I play.
Unfortunately it's being slowing forgotten by too many referee's that we as referee's are indeed responsible for the safety and physical well being of the all the players that are on the pitch in each and every single one of our games.

      Delete
    7. Totally support this decision. He tries to make it look accidental, but it is anything but that. Clear malicious intent.

      Delete
  15. Marciniak is appointed as refereee on the 24th, Collum is 4th official on the 27th. So both seem to be ready for matches in the next international rounds, which is good to have more options available.
From Elite Group Karasev was reported still injured and there is a small questionmark behind Kuipers, I think. Everyone else should be fit at the moment, right?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I don't know about Bastien, he had a match on the 17th but then no appointment this week or next week for the Coupe de France round of 8. We'll see on Monday if he is appointed for the next matchday.

    2. Benoit Bastien will be in Doha for fifa World cup prospective stage ;)

    3. Clear clear clear. How can this be playon. Either penalty+yellow or dive. Playon is the worst decision possible. It can never be correct in this scenario.

      Delete
    4. Totally agree. A very clear missed penalty. I am surprised he said play-on since he had an excellent view.

Pity. Another crucial mistake after Rennes-Betis.

    5. I fear the Greek is really close to demotion. A pity... but the situation in Greek refereeing doesn't helpt, too.

      Delete
    6. Totally agree, Vlad.

When Greek referees can't handle derbies where the pressure is too high and they only handle small matches, then it's logical to have these kind of mistakes.

  20. Unfortunately, Siebert lost it in the dying stages. Missed YC for stamp, wrong YC for SPA (it was a clear simulation), phantom whistle in penalty area, etc. :/

    1. Easy and not so challenging game. Correct PK for Frankfurkt in 27' min

    2. Not a very trying game for Undiano. From the tribunes, I saw a solid performance without problems.

Especially if UEFA will only appoint those with domestic / WC experience with VAR, I think he probably has good chances to get an inset in CL ('this' game last year was the best I ever saw him in recent times, Roma - Shakhtar).

      Delete
    3. Good news then, thank you both!

  22. Lahoz was an interesting experience to watch live. I have NEVER seen any referee making decisions so quickly. He uses linesmen for offside but that’s it. Anything on the pitch he decides without hesitation within a millisecond.

Anyway, performance tonight was fine. Aggressive body language at times, respected by players, got all big calls right.

I remember Galatasaray-Porto, there were 3 correct penalties, 2 of which were in favor Galatasaray.

    4. @Lde Of course, I'm not gonna get a polemic with you. Please watch 10 min. in porto match. If an referee makes a mistake on the British, the referee may end. (like Frisk, Øvrebø, Urs Meier).. As Ex-FIFA president Sepp Blatter says draws were rigged.. https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/10313221/sepp-blatter-claims-european-draws-fixed-by-using-hot-and-cold-balls
This game is not fair, especially for we Turks..

      Delete
    5. I watched only now that offside because the referee was from romanian.
Honestly, is not offside but is a difficult situation (and a matter of centimeters). Maybe I'm biased but you can't scream like that for such a decision. I thought it was something blatant, big mistake.
Anyway, from what I read (statistic and some reports), benfica was clearly superior in both legs and qualification was more than deserved. Even with that disalloed goal, Galatsaray would need another goal in last 5 minutes ...

PS a mistake is a mistake, I agree, but VAR should have been perfect for this kind of situation. You can't kill the AAR2 for this mistake. To talk about conspiration against turks it's laughable.

      Delete
    6. Extremely difficult situation for the AR, it was about couple of centimeters and it seems the AR was just a bit off the second last defender line. Can not blame him, but still a mistake.
