  1. Wow. Fourth appointment for Sylwestrzak in this Youth League season!

  2. OT: Timo Gerach will have his debut in 1. Bundesliga on Wednesday in Leverkusen - Bochum. He is 36 years old and has refereed 70 games in 2. Bundesliga since 2014.
DFB has said before the season, that referees from the second division's list will occasionally be used in the higher league, but Gerach is the first one, where this is applied.

  3. Very brave decision by Rapuano in Inter - Empoli with Skriniar sending off for reckless challenge (raised leg making contact with head). Should be normally an expected decision, but looking at how refereeing has developed nowadays and the power of the clubs, this would have been easily managed without cards by the most of the other officials. I really like his style, it is something like zero tolerance, very rare nowadays. Now he is already getting criticisms for the decision he took, and that's really sad. Not so much room for such style in modern refereeing, but there are still some extra-ordinary and very appreciated cases. Technically, maybe he will never be at the level of other referees, but he has this skill, to put an even very unpopular and 100% correct decision, when needed...

    1. Inter fan there,correct decision 100 %...

      Clear 2nd YC as day.

    2. Inzaghi (coach): "I still haven't checked the incidents carefully but it never happened to me a second YC so early in first half".
Çalhanoğlu: "We respect referees but they can't make mistakes in this way".

Well, I think that the first statement by coach explains exactly what I said. In terms of perception this second YC is not given by most of referees due to the pressure by big clubs in modern football.
Then of course they say that because they must find reasons for having lost the game, but believe me, all referees taking such decisions like in this game would be extremeòly refreshing for a trend that is very worrying, in my opinion.

  5. Mark Clattenburg is not longer the head of Egyptian referees. He submitted his resignation today.

    1. can somebody list, where he already "worked" and for how long? who keeps paying him?

    2. He has not "worked" anywhere but only is taking the monies.

    3. I read that the President of Zamalek SC claimed that Clattenburg had left his wife to live with a man. So his sexuality was questioned publically. He was then threatened by fans of this club and Clattenburg was forced to flee to an unknown place.
The article (by german paper tag24.de; published by IG Schiedsrichter on facebook yesterday) also states that Clattenburg did not receive his salary for 2 weeks and was in a dispute with the Egyptian football association.
I don‘t know how true this is however. Does anyone have similar information?

    4. I don't think it is a question of whether it is true -- Clattenburg pretty obviously briefed a Sun journo to get his side of the story out quickly and I don't doubt that the stuff reported *actually* happened (though I think the 'flee' bit is misinterpreted by you tbf/tag24.de) -- but I'm sure that EFA have a mostly different perspective on what happened.

Does Mr Clattenburg, an excellent referee it should be underlined, have the atributes to be an effective (refereeing) politician-leader: team-building, clear and defined medium-to-long term vision/goals/aims, co-operation, compromise, et al? I'm not convinced, personally.

    5. Maradona was among the best players in history yet he was an absolute failure as a manager.

The same is for refereeing, being an excellent referee is not a guarantee of being an excellent committee president later (see Clattenburg or Rosetti)

    6. i agree with you all...before becoming a pro ref he made his living by fixing toilets as a plumber in the north east of england...so what would one expect in terms of "structural work" then?

when did he train his management and leadership skills? imagine those roles to be filled by a "normal" assessment center or you had to apply with your resume for such a top position job...

i really like quilavas reference to maradonna - one of the best on earth as a player, but absolute failure as manager...same applies to so many more...and on the other hand, we have beckenbauer, zidane or pep...and then there are people like mourinho, tuchel or nagelsmann, who have never been professional players but are also among the greatest managers...

referee-wise which country do you think has the best people in leading positions?

  6. Anybody does know something about Karim Abed?? He disappeared totally, appeared only as VAR but still on FIFA list, can't understand.

    1. He was unavailable for a very long time due to illness (skipped the whole 2021-22 season, just whistled a couple of pre-season friendlies).
He will return on the pitch for a game in France' third division on Friday 25th.

  7. Weak performance from Gil Manzano in Barca vs Sociedad match.

First half was another level leniency,a.k.a Inaki,Doveri or Turpin like.

Missed or on purpose he did not give atleast 3YC's until he showed YC to Mendez, then VAR called him and he switched his decision to RC.

First half was to forget,2nd half was better but that's only due to Sociedad being player down, otherwise very average Gil Manzano performance.

Whats my biggest problem with him is that every game he has different criterium, not enough consistency from him.

For example, last week he officiated Villareal vs Real,he booked Villa player around 5th minute for dissent and then he continued with this type of line, what's YC was YC and that was good from him.

Then on Monday,he was in charge of Valencia vs Almeria, very lenient and made and missed some big calls that were overturned like penalty given to Valencia and penalt, not given to Almeria.

    Now tonight this...

Sorry, but if he is number 1 in Spain after Mateu and Del Cerro retire, then Spain are in trouble cause he is not capable of being quality ref even in Spain, not even to talk about CL.
