    1. Thanks! What a big miss 59'. in Brazilian referee stayed too still and static outside the penalty area. Should have seen the "orange" card. RC for SFP was possible. But YC OK.

    2. Thanks for the highlights! Sampaio, with the help of VAR for the penalty miss, did a good job in this game - in non-technical matters, one can even describe his refereeing as (quite) strict when it came to dealing with tactical/reckless fouls. However, what was also quite visible was a total carte blanche towards both dissenting behaviour and DtR activities, with the blind eye turned at 45' to an offence in the latter category being the worst of them imo. Sampaio is a very good ref -- and if the level of refereeing in the main tournament matches that of this play-in, we can be very happy come July -- but one can worry particularly for 'lesser' referees who will find themselves very disarmed if they follow the (surely FIFA-encouraged) attitude of the Brazilian referee towards technical matters like (eg) dissent and DtR.

    3. It's very sad to see players allowed to do whatever they want. Of course, the referees were apparently told to act "strongly" against dissent and DtR but using their personality instead of cards. As always, there should be some limits but FIFA don't think so... Such a bullsh*t!

Two key match incidents to assess for Sampaio. The first one, a missed penalty for reckless/SFP studs challenge, was the effect of not adjusting the angle, what Chefren brilliantly explained above. The second one is a possible 2YC to LAFC #14 for SPA in 101'. Your thoughts?

    4. Well, given the nature of the foul, player deliberately stopping opponent, not interested in the ball, a YC should have been issued, but if I look only at the position and the possible dangerous attack, I think there can be discussion, nevertheless, no doubts about accepting second YC. More than borderline situation but for me card to be given for the attitude of the player, and I think one can't accept that. However, how game was quickly resumed with that free kick can also suggest us something about the acceptance...

  2. Glenn Nyberg is said to have intervened in a swedish 6th division match. Not good
