I imagine we will be seeing all 3 in the conference league in the coming season
ReplyDeleteWell, there is a "problem" about Saggi, it's in reality a very strange appointment for a referee who already got his CL debut, and officiated 3 games overall so far, this was on 2024/25 season. Then, nothing for him this year, with a loss of focus by committee.
DeleteEither they wanted a more experienced referee for this year final, or the consideration for him is now different than a couple of season ago.
Personally I watched him in some games1 year and half ago, it was rather OK, but clear need of development.
It will be interesting to see barrotts progression considering his remarkable rise in recent years
Deletegot promoted to sg2 in 23/24 and got appointed to 15 PL games which I have never seen for an sg2 referee.
Got promoted to sg1 at the start of 24/25 and I think was made a FIFA referee at the start of 25/26
@Neil, the same is happening now with Matt Donohue: still an SG2 but already a few appearances in the Premier League (28, 3 of which as on-field, and already made his debut in 2024) as well as Internationally
DeleteMr chevren personally how do you see the chances of joao pinheiro to be selected for a referee in world cup
ReplyDeleteYou are absolute legend
DeleteYou impressive with pinheiro
DeleteOn Barrott, he looks like the future number one in England, the talent is there and perhaps with this exciting run of form he can even be at least a 4th official at the home tournament in Euros 2028
ReplyDeletePresuming brooks can get over his current injury problems he could be a contender
DeleteGood appointment for Barrott. Speaking of PL refs...saw that the DFB uploaded refcam from Germany vs Ghana (Attwell). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=li9Xng4oPVA
ReplyDeleteNot an easy first half for Joey Kooij. Some small mistakes in foul detections and a VAR intervation for a penalty he should had spotted on field
ReplyDeleteThe OFR https://streambug.org/cv/6ee250
ReplyDeleteThis penalty had to be detected live…
DeleteCrazy that this wasn't seen by Kooij. No real excuses why this was missed onfield.
DeleteOFR in 58' for Barrott. Overturned PK to drop ball and YC for simulation
ReplyDeleteOFR, penalty changed into simulation:
ReplyDeletehttps://streambug.org/cv/a91e7b
I think it would have been better for the referee to award a foul just outside the penalty area. There is slight contact on the knee just outside. In that case, it becomes a tactical VAR decision, without the consequence of a 7.9 mark.
DeleteImportant observer for Barrott too….
ReplyDeleteHopefully our friend from blog will be happy that Pinheiro got Lisboa derby once again.
ReplyDeleteGiven what happened last season,I am very surprised he is appointed for this match.
Is that the first time in UEFA competition that the refcam was used ?
ReplyDeleteHow was Rogit Saggis peformance?

33' PAI step on foot; too marginal contact for a penalty

Big calls correct, shaky foul detection but still a decent performance though.
Enormous controversy in AFC champions league semi final refereed by Shaun Evans to deny the equalizer at 94th minute.
ReplyDeleteIt's ultimately the right decision but it should have been managed and seen on field. Allowing play to resume as a sub is being made is just bizarre
Deletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MgxD7rnKoRc
DeleteOne should wonder, before all the rest, was VAR allowed to intervene here for an OFR?
I'm sure VAR can intervene for an incorrect restart of play.
DeleteAs an aside the behaviour of the players at the end is utterly despicable
Law three reads: "the substitution is completed when a substitute enters the field of play". Machida no88 had not left the FoP, Evans had blown for the restart, and neither was no6 on the FoP when the throw-in was taken. In the eyes of the laws, no substitution had taken place (and no6 should be cautioned for entering w/o permission). So, there are no grounds in the LotG to declare that play was restarted incorrectly, and the OFR was actually illegal?
DeleteAFC and CAF compete heavily for a more amateur status ;)
DeleteIs he and his VAR in the WC ?
Delete"I'm sure VAR can intervene for an incorrect restart of play. "
DeleteI would claim the opposite. The VAR is only allowed to check everything that happened after the last restart according to the protocol.
Without this situation,he had one of the worst performances a ref can have.
DeleteHe decides to punish nothing, not one foul, not one dissent and mobbing and there was plenty of that.
Then after the match he gets brave and decides to show YC's and RC's,same thing he should have done in Regular time.
Allowed too much and payed the price at the end,he also had that same style last match when Al Hilal played and these 2 match showed me that if he is best from Australia things are not good.
I remember the same thing happened in a bundesliga game this season I think were VAR ruled out a goal for a FK not correctly taken, if I remember well the ball was still rolling and I don’t think VAR protocol is allowing this.
DeleteBut this is clearly something to look at by IFAB imo. Here a good example of a correct VAR intervention even if it’s an illegal one.
Watching the end of the game, this is a terrible image for an AFC tournament, players nearly fighting with the referee and only one RC at the end, unacceptable behavior.
DeleteAnyone watching their football competitions knows that it's how the things look like. Referees lenient to the extreme combined with very weak soft skills and suboptimal technical accuracy can only give such results. It's clear but Hani Ballan is one of many in current refereeing era who don't understand such things.
DeleteCorrect refereeing by Sozza in Inter Como.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the intervention in the CAF Confederation Cup with Amin Omar... I think it was correct. VAR protocol allows for goal to be reviewed when the ball is out of play prior to a goal. The ball is out of play when it touches a match official and starts a promising attack, so in that case. It counts as "ball out of play prior to goal". In this case for Evans, it is clearly unjustifiable to me though.
ReplyDeleteI think uefa referees observers is released howard webb in paris
ReplyDeletePsg-Bayern Webb/Pedersen
ReplyDeleteAtletico-Arsenal Vassaras/Hauge
Braga-Freiburg Filipovic/Riley
Nott’m Forest-Aston Villa Trefoloni/ -
Shakhtar-Crystal Palace Mikulski/Plautz
Rayo Valecano-Strasbourg Batista/Tritsonis
Well, Rune Pedersen and Terje Hauge, it should be evident that Eskas didn't get a CL semifinal, otherwise him + 2 observers from same country in 4 games, very hard to happen (but not impossible).
DeleteWebb at PSG - Bayern will likely also mean that no English referee will officiate the Champions League semi-final. While this was to be expected anyway, the second leg is even less likely than the first.
DeleteWalsh with usual team on Saturday and Dallas on VAR, could we see him in UECL at Rayo?
ReplyDeleteHopefully as he deserves it.
DeleteOT: This weekend 18 years old referee in the lowest division at Slovakia was assaulted by 48 years old player. For the referee it was his first match as (centre) referee in adult football. What should be punishment if player, team official, spectator attack match official? How long should be a ban? Should be some punishment for team/club? (fine, points deduction, match behind closed doors, excluding from competition...) and also write how is the situation in your countries.
ReplyDeleteMakkelie has a mic on in the dutch cup final. Link below. Also with his reaction on the WC selection and you can see how he arranges his own police escort

Why is my post about Makkelie again deleted?
ReplyDeleteBoth comments were detected as spam by the system, it is an automatic process, sorry for that. When, after having published it, you don't see the post that's the reason.
DeleteThank you for your reaction! I can see both now! Can you now delete 1 on the 2? If the clip needs translation, please give a call :)
DeletePersonally, I used YouTube’s live translated subtitles. Once again, listening to these dialogues, what clearly comes through is Makkelie ability, at least in my view, to keep very friendly relationship with the players, especially of course in the Netherlands, in his domestic league. At the same time, when he needs to be a bit strict and step in at the right moment, he does it, as in the phrase said to an AZ Alkmaar player: “I remember you from the last final,” if YouTube’s translation is correct, “and this time I’m giving you a second chance,” also creating a sense of continuity in something the player might not have expected. Of course, he remembered that the same referee had officiated that final one year ago, but it is certainly something that reflects a very elaborated personal preparation for the match. These are phrases that, in my opinion, some referees simply don't say at all, and you can understand the level of interaction with the players themselves.
DeleteThen, I wanted to comment on the news about the phone, incredible how in Italy (but maybe also in other countres) this story about the phone call at sideline has been treated as particular news, while they are trying to make it pass for something else (a private call?). Then one reads the article in full and of course understands that everything that happened was not only normal, but in fact mandatory for public safety.
Neverttheless, this is how society seems to work nowadays: not information but sensationalism, trying always to catch attention. Of course it ratrely happen to see a referee at phone during a game, but well, given the context, this wasn't a news, just ordinary management.
The fact that players address Makkelie as “Danny” says a lot about how well he is accepted and respected. What stands out to me is how relaxed he is, even during a cup final. He communicates in a friendly and calm manner with the players and explains everything clearly. With Goes he is strict, but that is sometimes necessary. A great showcase for Dutch refereeing. I think the KNVB is doing a great job with these short videos. The previous one with Sander van der Eijk was also really enjoyable to watch.
DeleteAgainst the number 3 of NEC, he warns that he must not make his match more difficult one more time with his behavior (it involved pushing and pulling). To Goes he indeed says, "I will give you another chance, but I do not want this behavior." He also refers to the incident just before this. Visible at 4:57
DeleteI didn't know the phone call was also news abroad. But he received a call from Feyenoord's (Stadium de Kuip) Safety Coordinator Thomas van Zomeren, who asked him to briefly interrupt the match due to an incident (still not clear which one).
Yes, I can also highly recommend the clip of Sander van der Eijk during Ajax-Twente.
I loved this video. Makkelie is an extraordinary referee, with a great personality and very respected. I hope he referees the Champions League final this year.
