A referee from outside the European confederation will officiate the 2026 match, to be played at Red Bull Arena in Salzburg (Austria) between Paris Saint Germain and Aston Villa.
Following the well-known events surrounding the World Cup in the United States, the Somali referee will become the first non-European referee to officiate this fixture, with this year's edition being the 51st.
The on-field refereeing team will be African: he will be accompanied by Djiboutian assistant referee Liban Abdoulrazack Ahmed and Kenyan assistant referee Stephen Eleazar Onyango Yiembe.
UEFA has appointed Slovenian Rade Obrenovič as the fourth official, while Italian Marco Di Bello will be on VAR duty, with Guillermo Cuadra Fernández serving as AVAR.
The performance of the refereeing team will be assessed by UEFA Refereeing Committee member Björn Kuipers.
Cypriot UEFA delegate Adonis Procopiu will be on duty for this clash.
