  1. Zwayer did it again ! No penalty after the review of the action. For me it's (preety clear) penalty for Bayern (handball)

    1. I watched this incident, it would be interesting to know the reasons for which Zwayer didn't whistle penalty after OFR.
      Maybe Philipp can help us.

    2. Well, I don't know Zwayer's reasons, but for me no penalty is correct (at least supportable).
The defender is pulling his arm away from the ball, and the arm was initially in a natural position. Additionally the ball comes unexpected (he can't know, Lewandowski will miss it) and with little reaction time.

The OFR was probably called, because Zwayer missed the hand contact, which the VAR then detected.

    3. @Philipp

I don't want to argue with anyone (honestly, I don't need that, I have better things to do) but what you wrote earlier it's not true.
"The defender is pulling his arm away from the ball, and the arm was initially in a natural position" This is simply NOT TRUE. I understand that you are german and (maybe) you want to defend the german referees BUT do it in an honest way.

It's the 2nd time in few months when Zwayer denied a preety clear penalty after OFR. This guy has huge problems imho.

    4. I didn‘t watch the game and therefore I didn‘t see the incident. However, Zwayer‘s decision is widely accepted by German media. Philipp‘s arguments are the same used by media, too. So, without having seen it, it does not seem to be so clear.

    5. @petschovschi I must repeat myself, we are here exactly for discussing, so you have to "argue" with people, if you don't want to do that, you can stop to write. It is important to respect other people's opinions.

    6. My opinion is no clear handball. I find heavy decision and think Zwayer has right decision.

    7. As Ref_1707 writes, the call is not controversial at all in Germany. If anything, the VAR intervention is criticized (also, because it took 3 minutes). So, I assume, Zwayer would have been in trouble, when awarding that penalty.
Probably the German interpretation of the handball rule is different here than in other countries...

    8. Here is the clip of the particular situation:

I'm totally with Philipp here, he mentions all relevant arguments in favour of Zwayer's no-penalty decision. And in my opinion awarding a penalty would even be a wrong decision!
That's why I think VAR should have preferably kept away from this situation. An OFR for a missed (penalty) incident is - as far as I know - only recommended when awarding the penalty would be supportable at least.

    9. @Chefren

Not every opinion must be respected. If you say "Hitler was a good german" I can't respect your opinion. I understand that you have some reasons to have such kind of opinion, I can live with that, but it's nothing to respect.

When someone says that Zwayer did a good thing yesterday (because he didn't whistle a penalty) I can't respect this opinion (esspecially when someone says "the defender is pulling his arm away from the ball, and the arm was initially in a natural position", thing which is not true). I can understand the opinion of Phillip (he has his (wrong) reasons for his opinion) and I can live with that (there is nothing I can do or change). But, honestly, I can't respect his opinion.

I understand that german fans (and german media) were pleased with the performance of Zwayer. I supposed they were also pleased after PSG- Napoli when Zwayer missed (at least) one clear red card.

It seems that germans have the referees they really deserve. The problem is the fact that Germany (and germans) wants to have his (poor) referees at the top of european football competitions, which is not the case with their current generation of referees. The best example is Brych who has 4 final tournaments (WC and EURO), without any special performance (even his CL final was not a very good performance).

    10. PSG-Napoli was not a topic in the wider public in Germany, but I agree, that he missed (at least) one RC there. Otherwise he has been heavily criticized in Germany in the past (e.g. after the cup final). There is by far no sanctity for German referees in Germany. E.g. there are also several people, who see Brych's early end of the World Cup as justified.

    11. Another example from today: https://streamja.com/LB2v
Here the majority opinion in Germany (and mine) is again "no penalty". So no support for Brych there. It's just about the handball interpretation, which is different. At least I assume, that you consider the penalty as correct/supportable, (which I can understand).

    12. In my opinion this penalty by Brych is wrong, however if it was directly whistled on the pitch without VAR, for sure it must be supported.

      Delete
    13. Yes, was given without VAR. And I think, it's debatable, whether the VAR should have intervened. Would not have been wrong, but Brych already had a good view.

    14. I can't have an opinion about the Brych's penalty because the angle is not the best. It's not clear for me if that hand blocked the shot (on goal) by increasing the body surface. Anyway, when a defender wants to block a shot (by interfering with the trajectory of the shot, like in this case) he should be aware about the position of his hands.
Anyway, this one seems to be less penalty than Zwayer's one (but, I repeat, the angle is not the best).

    15. Lutz Michael Fröhlich confirmed that both, Brych‘s and Zwayer‘s decision, have been correct.
Zwayer did not see the handball at all, so the VAR gave him the chance to evaluate this incident.

  2. Liverpool goal vs Arsenal 100% wrongly called for offside. Behind the ball and on the first pass he is not punishable.

    1. Difficult situation, AR was 3-4 meters behind the ball.

    2. And since it difficult he should definetely not raise the flag. Never raise the flag if you can't be sure.

  3. Interesting case with correct red card for DOGSO and possible advantage not given by the referee

    1. Good decision by the referee as I was always taught not to play advantage on DOGSO unless they were about to put it in the net.

What do you think about the incident in 5:25? Should Frankowski have issued a second YC for dissent by action?
