UEFA calls meeting of European Football Stakeholders

Stakeholders invited by UEFA to discuss European football’s response to COVID-19.

In the light of the ongoing developments in the spread of COVID-19 across Europe and the changing analysis of the World Health Organisation, UEFA has today invited representatives of its 55 member associations, together with the boards of the European Club Association and the European Leagues and a representative of FIFPro, to attend meetings by videoconference on Tuesday 17 March to discuss European football’s response to the outbreak.

Discussions will include all domestic and European competitions, including UEFA EURO 2020.

Further communication will be made following those meetings.

  2. OT: RFEF has just announced that they are working to supress the age limits for the referees. Here comes the answer to del Cerro's call to WC seminars. Also, they are working to make the referees fully professional.

    1. Thanks George. So, this indeed explains the call he got for FIFA seminary.

  3. Reportedly, UEFA asked Inter Milan and Roma to withdraw from UEL.
Honestly, this is ridiculous. All major leagues are stopping, footballers are getting infected like all other people, some Countries are facing a catastrophe and some other will follow soon. All sports are stopped for at least the next two weeks. Please, UEFA, stop everything now!

So far 2020 is very bad year.

  6. Georgi Kabakov (Aris - OFI); Gediminas Mažeika (AEK - Panathinaïkós) and Ivan Kružliak (PAOK - Olympiakós) were due to referee in the first round of the Greece SuperLeague playoffs, but the games have been called off.

If I'm not wrong Cyprus FA announces referee appointments on a Friday and the games are still scheduled to be played there this weekend.

    2. If I am not wrong, both teams are from the same city. I must agree with Jackson here, I don't remember Real-Atletico, United-City or Chelsea-Arsenal-Tottenham ever ended with so many red cards...

  9. BTW, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, all competitions in Latvia, including the Higher League that should have started yesterday, have been suspended since yesterday (youth competitions already since 12 March) until further notice. (An emergency situation has been declared in the country until 14 April, meaning schools are closed, events with more than 200 people are banned and sports trainings for the youth can't happen. Current number of cases - 26.)

  13. Very good performance by Cüneyt Çakir in Turkish Süper League match between Denizlispor and Genclerbirligi.

3 CORRECT YCs and no real problems at all in an unspectacular match behind closed doors.

    1. No issues. Obstruction. He is not allowed to walk into the attackers path like that. Doesn't even matter if the contact was small.

      Delete
    2. Wrong decision. No foul.

      Delete
    3. Victor, there is nothing in the laws called "Obstruction". Did you mean, 'impeding an opponent' with contact??

      Delete
    4. You don't need to tell me what's in the laws of the game or not. But since you did. I explained what happened. He obstructed him. It's a form of words of what exactly happened. If you want laws of the game words, then you should be complaining to everyone commenting. The word ''obstruct'' is in page 106 under law 12 for impedeing without contact. Which happened here.

      Delete
    5. When, Victor, you chose to write a comment on a specific post there is the possibility that another person will react on your answer. Jackson just asks a normal question in a normal way and gets an irritated and arrogant answer... In my opinion no need for that, and a little pity, especially for somebody who always refers very strictly to the LOTG.

    6. I don't remeber commenting much on this website to be honest. ''there is nothing in the laws called "Obstruction.'' Is a way of saying that someone is incorrect and doesn't know the laws of the game. Have a nice day.

      Delete
    7. Woah, it's okay Victor. Anonymous you're spot on, I was seeking clarification on what exactly he thought the foul was for. And Victor you also refer to the word "obstruct" used when describing Indirect Free Kick offences, impeding without contact. But that's not what happened in this video is it? Because there is contact.
Anyway, apologies if you took it the wrong way. As I said, was just seeking clarification on what offence you thought had been committed.

    8. Jesus. Indeed, Anonymous is spot on and I completely stand with Jackson here. Victor, you seem like a arrogant, overly confident and unpleasant person (concluding from all, not only the recent comments you have made). Although you have all rights to not do that, please be so kind and stay away from commenting in this blog because then I (and, I think, Anonymous and some more persons as well) would really 'have a nice day' as you wished. Thank you! :)

Interesting situation in Belarusian cup, BATE vs Dinamo Minsk, referee Amine Kourgheli(FIFA), AR2 Anton Gusev(FIFA)
    IMO, well spotted offside

    1. Yes, clear save so punishable offside. Excellent call by AR2. Also to underline, it is always difficult to keep concentration when keeper leaves the goal.

    2. Thanks, Vadim. I agree with Chefren, brilliant decision here.

Can you say whether this was a challenging game for Amin Kurhchieli - I heard he is a kind of 'super-talent' (1991 born, new FIFA for 2020) - and I was contemplating watching the full BATE - Dinamo match?

      Delete
    3. There weren't a lot of serious decisions to make in this match, but it was important to keep the match under control, he managed this well, there was a pressure on him, especially from Dinamo's coach, so it wasn't easy game for refereeing team.
Yes, Amine is considered as a huge talent here, he got his FIFA badge only after one full season in highest division.
P.S. Sorry, my mistake, AR2 is Andrei Hetsikau (non-FIFA)

    4. Shot on goal, ball has direction to the goal so it is easy one. Deliberate safe clearly. Offside. Amin Kurgheli reminds me the story of the Cypriot one-Christofi. He became FIFA referee with just 3 months at Top category. Same refereeing style. same prospect. same expectations on my eyes.

  18. Can any of our (Turkish) readers report how Abdulkadir Bitigen performed in the
    Galatasaray - Beşiktaş game yesterday?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It was a very good and refreshing performance by the debutant Bitigen.

It was a normal game especially in the first half.
Solid foul detection, correct rejected penalty appeals and 3 CORRECT YCs.

I liked his calm and active approach with a great body language.

But of course he profited of the fact that the game was played behind closed doors and there was no real pressure from the stands as we know it with fans in this hot derby!

    1. it will an extraordinary step by UEFA in their history to postpone the main continent national team tournament!
To my point of view, UEFA will give an opportunity to referees mentioned above to participate at the tournament

*FIFA cancelled 2 World Cups in 1942 and 1946 due to WWII

      Delete
  20. Cüneyt Çakir is now 43 years old.

In 2021 he would be 44 in Summer.

I think the age limits were abolished in FIFA and in Turkey?

So theoretically he can whistle so long he fits the FIFA and UEFA tests.

Yes, we'll learn much more (hopefully) from UEFA later. But the key is the tournament is happening in 2021.
