  1. A very hot European farewell game for Harald Lechner

  2. So the last international game for Harald Lechner will be the very challenging one, given also what happened in Alkmaar for the other game, between Legia and AZ. Crucial for qualification and delicate game for the context. Surely not an easy farewell, but I think OK for his experience.

    1. Personally, I would have preferred to see Lechner in his first and only UCL match Celtic FC (SCO) - Feyenoord Rotterdam (NED) after 14 international years instead, also given the high number of referees appointed in this competition in the current season and that Austria has not been represented there for 12 years now. Bastien in Legia Warszawa (POL) - AZ Alkmaar (NED) would have made more sense to me than "wasting" this Elite referee in the absolutely meaningless UCL game.

  3. Gil Manzano for Maccabi - Gent

    1. First / second place (meaningless) game in Europa Conference League for him and late appointment with German VARs.
You can easily understand the reason behind, committee didn't want to keep him out from everything, but this is more humiliation than a NO GAME, if you ask me... terrible management by Rosetti here. Its is extremely clear how they think about their referees and the management.

    2. Maybe he is just a late replacement?
The appointment was revealed later and is indeed rather strange.

    3. There are Spanish VARs now for this game.

  4. Ludogoretzs payer Tekpetey with a chocking elbow hit on FCN player, should have been a red card, clearly intentional. May be Hategan didn't see it but VAR should have intervened for sure

  5. Once again - shocking by Hategan in Ludogorets-FCN. Ludogorets player fouling from behind, Hategan deem it a foul - but somehow the card stay in his pocket (again). Seems like Hategan it some way from his usual standards.

  6. Does anyone see Hategan's (lack of) performance in Bulgaria? 100% 2nd yellow card to Ludogorets' nr.37 (Timestamp: 48.03) To not show a card and become match deciding as a ref is also a way of being match deciding. Awful refereeing. Simple as that.

  7. Lechner gives the goalkeeper a warning for timewasting and blows directly after this warning his whistle without extra time... Further a good first half

  8. Yeah, not the best performance by Hategan, home side could and probably should have had 2 reds already.

  9. Curious about your opinions about this red card by Lechner

    1. It looked a justified call to me (lunging + dangerous hitting point). I wonder if the mobbing swayed his decision though. Lechner was doing well but the character of the game has now changed and he should start issuing cards to (frustrated AZ) players in order to stay in control, he could have done that for a simulation and late challenge already.

    2. The way he showed red card can be indeed an element to consider, I think it is possible he had started to think about YC, but then...

      Delete
    3. Yes i expected also a YC based on his body language.
      Agree with issuing cards earlier

  10. Head injury and FCN player bleeding from an (un-intended) elbow - Hategan? Sees nothing, keeps play going until Ludogorets player shows fairplay. Not much support from his assistents today..

    1. Not a fan of that RC. I guess the call came from the AR or the protests

    2. Correct for me as well, even preferable tbh: the offender lunges in dangerously and the point of contact goes in favor of "endangering the safety of the opponent", IMO.

    3. Very brave on field decision imo, probably correct/expected decision but a difficult one to spot live. Not sure if I’m the biggest fan of this type or red card but the fact is that this is more red than yellow for sure and VAR would’ve probably intervened if a yellow was given.

    1. About the possible penalty, to me well done by referee, live you have clear perception attacker is looking for that call... it can be even simulation.

      Delete
    2. Fully agree with Chefren here, a very good decision by Lechner, it was clearly the attacker initiating the contact by sticking his right leg sideways.

      Delete
  14. I think correct or at least supportable penalty for holding in Istanbul by Stavrev.

  15. Unfortunately Hategan's inaction in the first half decided the group...

  16. Very solid performance by De Burgos tonight.

  17. Antonio Nobre whistled three penalties in Lille - Klaksvík, all correct / supportable decisions. Well done. Nevertheless, his style seems to be quite particular, rather distant from players, just officiating and bookings.
