      I don't know, it's difficult because many options, all Category 1 on paper are possible. The observer is Edgar Steinborn from Germany, he regularly observers Elite referees, but I think this shouldn't be the case, or, in case of Elite referee, one could think about the very famous list of those who are (always) in danger of a demotion... doesn't look like there will be an experienced Elite. But I really can't add more.
      Just to make a name, Yigal Frid (ISR).

    Some particulars about Maresca, according to what I can read on some sites. He has been indeed suspended by AIA and I think it will last about a month (the maximum time for a technical suspension without an effective and/or official punishment).

    It all happened last Friday, September 27, when the match between Al Kuwait and Al Arabi (2-0) of the Kuwait Premier League was played, with the Italian referee for the match. During the match, there was contact between the player Khaled Al Murshed (Al Arabi) and Maresca himself: it seems that Maresca himself remained convinced that the “clash” did not happen by chance, therefore maybe deliberate action by player. So, in an instant, the referee pronounced a rather threatening phrase in English (“See you next time…”), effectively creating a scandal on the pitch, which gradually also became a diplomatic case. Maresca defended himself by justifying the phrase as a joke, but it is clear that the context echoed his words and consequences. Thus, Maresca was reported for alleged threats by the Al-Arabi player. The complaint came from the club's Board of Directors.

    And now? It seems that diplomacy has already taken the scene and that in Kuwait Maresca will not suffer consequences, or at least this is what the leaders consider and hope for. But in the meantime the UEFA has removed him from the role of Fourth Official in a Champions League game and certainly in Italy Gianluca Rocchi will keep him out for several rounds. On a technical level you can make all mistakes you want in awarding penalties and so on, but on a behavioral and image level you must not deviate from certain principles and such action, in case of confirmation, enters the list of unacceptable things.

    I have a question or Austrian readers, can you explain why Alan Kijas gets almost all assignments as VAR in UEFA competitions? It's incredible, every Austrian crew has him as either VAR or AVAR. Is he the best Austrian VAR? I don't remember Video Assistant Referees from other countries getting so many games. He is always there.

      Alan Kijas only became a FIFA referee this year, when he will already turn 38. I don't have the impression that he is massively pushed internationally as a main referee. It is possible that he shall rather grow into the role of a VAR specialist (like Massimiliano Irrati). In Austria, he was largely spared from major blunders as a VAR, while other well-known names were much more often criticized in the media.

      Very good advantage by him. But this is just some small thing. Excellent movement. Constant. Good management of the players. A very good first YC for blatant holding. Full control of the game. Gidzhenov is definately a very good young referee with alot of potential to develop. After Euro17 final and if he continues with this perfermence i expect him to reach Europa League at the end of this group stage.

      two critical handball situations. i think the penalty which was given on the field, should have been reviewed. i dont think this is a punishable handball...a few minutes later the var sent the referee out for on field review...a clear punishable handball, blocking a shot on goal...the referee didnt give a penalty...in my eyes two wrong decisions...luckily the heidenheim team won, so wont be much talking...

      To understand the 80' call, one must look at referee's gesture, according to him, despite of a rather natural position of the arm, there was a movement by player in order to control the ball that was passing. This can be a bit visible immediately after the touch, when the arm seems to be more open than the previous seconds. Nevertheless, I think this is a very harsh call, one can't be sure player deliberately did that. In my opinion, there are some small arguments to keep this penalty once whstled on the pitch, but in reality shouldn't be whistled.

      Second incident: extremely hard to see live, indeed before closer replay during OFR I hadn't seen it. I think this was, personal opinion, more penalty than the previously given one, but of course one can't always compare the handball incidents. Here the arm is rather open, not close to body, but it's also true it's not 100% open, a middle way. And I think, to explain Albanian referee's decision, that he exactly assessed that. Not so much open for him, so no punishable. Nevertheless, if we think back even at Cucurella handball, deemed by UEFA as punishable because in occasion of a shot on goal, this must be similar. The attacker was trying to shot. The player stopped the ball by that arm, should be penalty, in case of no whistle you have more difficult arguments to explain, the penalty call would be rather accepted.
      It's not the first time Jorgji refuses to change decision after an OFR, it seems in Albania they have a quite "free" use of the too, but my opinion is that going at monitor and then keeping original decision must be extremely rare, and not the scope for which this technology has been introduced in football. So, either VAR or him, one of them was wrong.

      First penalty I'm agree with you Chefren but it can be supported since no clear evidence that the players dosen't make a move towards the ball.
      Second clip, if Cucurrela handball i assessed as punishable there is no way this is not penalty. Clear penalty, open arm shot of goal. Jorgi by doing this kind of stuff after VAR calls him is trying very hard to promote as soon as possible the other Albanian and demotion himself . Especially after Jorgi had a UECL game and second Albanian ref had a EL game.

      RC would have been supported by VAR, but I think YC accepted as well due to rather low intensity of the contact with studs in the back of the player. Still to me, better to send off.
