    Dabanovic with another appointment, as well as Gozubuyuk.
    The referee from Montenegro was heavily criticized by English readers, I fully understand their point of view, but as long as you manage to have a regular game without issues and to solve the crucial incidents (very good no penalty call), you get more. It's not the quality in some cases, but let's say how a referee officiates a game.
    Very difficult game in Netherlands for me with the Italian team always ready to question, and we know.
    Turpin with an Europa League game, I have the feeling that he has lost some credits under the eyes of Rosetti, of course the poor performance at EURO, but I'm surprised he gets only Europa League now, with Letexier coming from poor performances. We will see in the next set, one could expect the contrary, with Turpin in CL and Letexier EL / ECL (rather EL). The VAR of Leipzig - Juventus is back.
    Most important observation for committee is Lukjančukas with Velasco, what are your ideas about the Lithuanian? Too early for thinking about a promotion? For sure now one should consider Rumsas. Then, he follows, having quite long time to develop. Nevertheless, committee seems very interested in him.
    The recent performances were overall good, but also true he never faced a very challenging game (not his fault, of course).
    Schnyder and Saggi to continue their journey in making experience, with regarded observers (Lannoy and Riley). Should be the first time of Norwegian VAR in Europa League, I think? Harald Hagen comes back after having been international referee in the "Ovrebo times" For sure Norway can't forget that. Important observer for Krogh as well.

    I agree with your thoughts about Dabanovic. Not a good match in Liverpool and now this match. It could be a hard match for him.

    The third important match in a row for Sylwestrzak (Olympiakos-Braga, Iceland-Türkiye and now Porto - Hoffenheim). I think he will soon make his debut in the Champions League

    The focus on Lukjančukas is interesting, I guess many of us expect his compatriot Rumsas to make the final step to Elite category.
    Is it true that Rumsas had no UEFA appointments in MD2-MD3? Is that a normal management? One could question that. I don’t remember how he performed in MD1, however there should be an argument to shift focus to Lukjančukas now.

    About the game in London: not sure why Carballo has to be there, in what should be a one-sided game on paper. The team from Alkmaar are in a bad moment and (with a lot respect and sympathy), they suit better in Conference league. Wonderful youth academy… But I almost never understand the choices to appoint a Refcom member. I think there are much better (and more technical) games available to observe a referee.

      On Rumsas: it is not the first ime he is out from appointments apparently without reasons (shouldn't be for previous performance), it happened also in past, it looks that he is not available all the time, that's a conclusion I have drawn.
      Maybe also for this reason there is more focus on the other Lithuanian, because indeed with a "full time" Rumsas, this should follow later.

      About the habit by committee members to observe referees not in challenging context, it's not the first time. Rosetti many times went to watch a referee in even easier context than this one in London. My final idea is that they just want to meet the referee, and there isn't a real technical plan behind, otherwise they would selected a by far challenging game. Also, many times Rosetti used to be in Switzerland, close to UEFA home, and in France, and he appointed referees to be watched just based on that, not based on the potential difficulty of a game.

    Only one Belgian referee appointed in three Leagues togheter ?? Even no Eric Lambrechts, no Visser (he had a NL game with bad comments on this blog again, but we were analysing very closely and we think that his appearance as such is not liked by Rosetti and his collegueas), no D'hondt (extremely promising in Belgian first class). To be clear : I am on this blog NOT the defender or supporter of the Belgian referees ; I am following (with others, not as professionally as most of you, but still) the path of appr. 2/3ds of Cat 1 referees and all elite referees. But the specialised followers in Belgium cannot but see that Rosetti and his team treats the Belgian referees as they were from Malta or San Marino (no offense againts those two beautiful countries). We are wondering why, comparing with all other refs who are repeatedly appointed for consecutive games.

      Lambrechts already had a CL match on Day 2 (Barcelona-Young Boys). I think he'll have a second CL match on the next day or a bigger UEL match.
      Visser has had one UEL match (Lyon - Olympiacos) and one NL Group A match. Admittedly, his performance wasn't extraordinary, but he didn't make any crucial mistakes. I can't see him getting less than 8.2 or 8.1. The rest of his performance is not to blame. I think it's the first time he's had to deal with a “star” and we all know how difficult some referees have been with Ronaldo in the past. I think he'll probably get a game in the CL in the next few days, or some other games in the UEL.
      D'hondt had his first match in the UECL group stage on Matchday 2. I have no information on the match.
      Vergoote had his first UECL group stage match this week.
      As for Van Driessche and Verboomen, they weren't convincing in the first round matches on the pre season. We can't expect much from them other than a normal UECL match or a small UEL match on the last matchday.

      Lambrechts (Eventually, but age problem), Visser (No), Van Driessche and Verboomen (No), Dhondt (if he is consistent but still very young) and Vergoote (too young)

      The last two mentioned (Dhondt and Vergoote) are not "too young" if they want to make real progress within UEFA; And Visser, well, he started refereeing in First Division more than 10 years ago and he still is not 35 yet. Beneath his own performances, fact is that he has no powerful mentor/people to "promote" him. Do you know who was the mentor of Frank De Bleeckere by the way ? It was a certain.... Collina ! You have to be good but you have to be lucky and supported as well to "follow a succesful path". Finally : I believe as well that Visser will never become Elite, but watch Dhondt and Vergoote (if they are supported by the right people and lucky as well)

      I mean this game is the only one that he can ref in the EL for me, he already got a UCL game this year, just think that UEFA wanted a top referee for a game that in Turkey can be really hard. We’ll see in the next few month though

      Very good. One should call him brave, because, be sure, the second YC wouldn't have been issued for "management" purposes by many referees. But both simillar fouls and botjh to be punished as SPA. Hope Serbia can find a good name after the long troubles experienced by Jovanovic.

    I am curious who will referee the PSG-Atlético Madrid (MD4) on November 6.

    Atlético Madrid have sent an official complaint to UEFA regarding the whistled penalty. PSG was probably not satisfied with the overruled PK either.

    Normally, I would say this is a typical Marciniak game. But now? Perhaps Taylor or Oliver?

    Correct decision, I think. Without foul, player clearly with the ball and without other defenders.
    In the early minutes, disallowed goal for offside after VAR intervention, I think not a big mistake by AR1 to miss it, very tight.

    Honestly, an offside flag that I can't explain by AR1 in Thessaloniki, disallowing a goal scored. Very clear ONSIDE, the assistant referee missed a defender in the assessment, otherwise no explanations. Very poor mistake. VAR corrected.

    Definitely an evident mistake by Lindhout in Frankfurt to whistle a penalty for a foul outside the box, it was clearly a free kick, not even close to the line of penalty area. Corrected by VAR.

      Defender tring to protect ball, in such situations rarely a penalty is whistled, but of course never a clear and obvious mistake, VAR should support. Coach from Qarabag also booked for dissent.
      However, a few ago, absolutely correct second YC with the player accepting the decision, very clear reckless action.

      Yes, it's hard for VAR, because the defender goes to make contact with attacker, you can never remove such penalty according to protocol, it's up to referee.

      Chefren, I don't like this way of doing things at all. I think this (shoulders and legs) is just a 'contact', not a incorrect contact and not even a 'cheap' penalty.
      Just as the bar for intervention is kept high for VAR, why not keep the threshold for awarding penalties be kept at a minimum? It's a contact sport, so it's no surprise that the content of the contact matters.

      If this is a penalty, then we can discuss what is incorrect with this contact.

      i completely disagree with everyone who said this is not a penalty.... has nothing to do with shoulder to shoulder, it's an ordinary foul, no intention to play a bal, ìff you look proper... you can see there is no shoulder push, but elbow/arm push in Rasmussens side of his back....

    Disaster already in Glasgow: Di bello blew the whistle instead of delaying for VAR to confirm the decision onfield for a foul on goalkeeper. He blows before players puts it in net so no VAR intervention allowed. IMO it was no foul and had he delayed an OFR would have followed

      Regular action by attacker, there is always a fear by many referees when keepers are involved and they are not seen like other players. This can be an example. In that specific incident, with a goal absolutely expected, he could have waited for allowing a VAR intervention, but I see that some referees don't absolutely manage to do that, differently from the delayed flags of assistant referees about offsides.
      I think this could be one of the last international games for Di Bello, it is reported by some rumors he could be replaced for 2025, maybe specializing as VAR. He had an extremely poor season on last year.

      Initially I thought the attacker got a touch on the ball but on the replay in slow motion the GK kicks it away and then is impeded on the other leg, so don't think it's a wrong decision - though obviously shouldn't have whistled before the goal.

      Maybe Di Bello wasn't in full focus as very early in the match but terrible to blow the whistle before goal was scored. Totally against VAR protocol. Even being Italian won't save him from big criticism from UEFA for this

      Agree..IMO not a good week for the German ref‘s..Zwayer with a disaster performance and today Osmers was very bad.(PK decision was disastrous and generally not accepted)

      Dabanovic was so far in terms of gaining control and he lost the match in 2nd half completely.

      Until Lazio scored 2nd goal,match was gone for him.

    Well, I m pretty satisifed what I saw from Dabanovic last night. One can not understand why David Coote call him, but at the end, nothing that can kill his good performance. Excellent red card given by him. I think that Uefa can consider him as candidate for promotion to Elite.

      For me, penalty was supportable or even correct call, I agree that regarding this aspect, the performance will not be spoiled, very good also the red card for DOGSO, but the rest is unconvincing. Struggled to have control of the game, allowed too much. I think he is basically a referee who can make very good calls, having a certain ability, but the management / control of the game when heated, is not at the same level. Since today the most important stuff in refereeing is to take crucial decisions correct and maybe not more than that, committee could be satisfied, but they can also see the level of appointments that can't be exceeded by the referee from Montenegro.

      Didn't watch yesterday but in Liverpool vs Bologna he was terrible, in a rather easy match played in good spirit issued 6 yellow cards and 4 of the were plainly wrong! Probably the worst refereeing performance I've seen this season in European Cups.

    Mourinho's expulsion seems exaggerated for the cards-for-managers (sth I would immediately remove :D) era but in previous years, he obviously would have been sent to the stands for 'conduct not meeting the required standard' so full support for Turpin sending him off. Penalty would have been supported by VAR (imo) but the contact on the Fener player's standing leg is fleeting at best and it giving would have given the impression that the ref was 'sold' by a dive of the home team. Despite the hot atmosphere, the game itself (this episode aside) was one of usual difficulty which was well officiated by the French no1.

      Imo great (double) call by Turpin. The penalty appeal for me is nothing. I am not sure we even have contact. A YC for a dive should have been possible (but I prefer not issuing it for management reasons). I disagree with the statement VAR would have supported a call, I hope not. The Mourinho RC I 100% agree with you. Maybe not a must, but fully supportable. Generally very strong body language by Turpin.

      Close to the tip of the foot, I agree it wasn't a step on foot and that's a very good decision, because live one could have been easily deceived. Of course players are aware that step on foot is always foul, so when they see a similar contact, they do everything to exaggerate it (well, not only this one, of course, but in this case even more, one could say).
      Yes, VAR would have supported a call, that's sure, you don't have the evidence that there wasn't contact, and once you have this situation, you can't act in a different way from the room. So, the decision by referee must be praised even more.
      About Mourinho, better if I not comment, I think he should really retire from football.
      But MIkael, did you know that in French official ranking (they upload a public document when sending new referees list for the next year), at moment Letexier is nr.1 and Turpin 2?
      This at moment seems valid in UEFA as well, but apart from EURO performances, one must indeed say it's a bit harhs against the "old" French.

      I hadn't noticed that document (and interesting to note the two new FIFAs), thanks. Unless FFF wanted to make a 'protest' about the Euro final appointment then it was probably mandatory to organise it that way. Most noteworthy imo is that for the arbitrary table in 23/24 for Ligue 1, Turpin was given the rating of 3rd place behind Bastien (2nd) and Letexier (1st). I guess they wanted to underline not being 100% convinced by his domestic performances.

      Here's some information:

      Referee Ruddy Buquet (47) recently failed physical tests and should no longer referee after more than 16 years in the league. This would explain his non-renewal from the future FIFA 2025 list.

      Concerning the two new referees proposed for the FIFA 2025 list (to replace Buquet and Gaillouste):

      - Romain Lissorgue, 33 (ranked 15th out of 20 in 2023/2024) has been refereeing in the top flight since the 2021 season (despite a season in the second division in 2022). To date, he has not refereed any benchmark matches, as he regularly referees matches involving mid-table teams.

      - Mathieu Vernice, 31 (ranked 18th out of 20 in 2023/2024) has been refereeing in the First Division since the 2022 season. He is one of the youngest referees in the French league. In one match in particular (Lyon vs Brest last season), several of his decisions caused a stir as he lost control of the match despite the spectacular scoreline and scenario.

    Almost all UCL MD4 observers are publiced.

    In PSG - Atleti there is a German observer which eliminates Zwayer. My idea is Kovács or Taylor.

    For the latter it would be one of the very few games he can officiate tbh — I don’t expect Taylor with Italian (and German?) teams on short term. Some games are more suitable for debut and don’t need Elite.

      Peter Sippel observer for that game in Paris means a very experienced Elite referee that committee fully trusts, of course no doubts about the kind of appointment, but indeed the nationality of the observer already says us that it will not be Zwayer (maybe also unlikely before knowing that, watching how committee treats him at moment).
      To me, impossible Taylor, even if he doesn't have problems with Spanish teams, the committee will avoid such choice, because, very easy to say, in case of another mistake in favor of a Spanish side, it would be the very end for him.
      Makkelie is still a name you have to consider, but getting this one meeting again PSG after a long time, sounds unlikely.
      Marciniak situation is still particular and he alreadywas in the spotlight for PSG. Honestly, I'm surprised by how much easy sometimes committee makes the choices for some games. I'm really in trouble to find a referee for this one, but at the end I will say that only real option seems to be Kovacs, passing from a big match, to another one (this could also find a confirmation in Rosetti recent management of some referees, as long as they come from good games, they get further ones). If we want to exclude the Romanian, well, Oliver is the other possible option.

      I think, your argument regarding Taylor and Spanish teams goes too far. It's already quite harsh, that he apparently can't do Italian teams (due to one game even without big mistake) and German teams (due to one mistake). But now also eliminating referees from countries, which they favoured with one mistake? Then we really have no options left.
