Very balanced list of promotions and demotions taking into account recent appointments, performances shown, as well as hard and soft skills of all referees.
After all these important observations by members of the committee, and with so many decisions expected, everything is postponed. My opinion? Some of those who should have been promoted, were not ready. It’s easy to guess which names I’m referring to. So what now? Everything is delayed, and maybe in six months they will be ready too. That’s the only reasoning I can do, because frankly, after all the movements in May and June by prominent observers like Rosetti and other members, one would have definitely expected something to happen. But... it's not the first time we see a six-month "adjustment" period. So let’s wait for December, for some referees, the real competition begins in the following weeks.
The two biggest candidates in my opinion are Sundberg (DEN) and Dudic (SUI) who were both at U21 Euros this year and are on UEFA's talents and mentors program. I would also imagine the other participants in this program (who are not already promoted) to be big candidates as well: Vergoote (BEL), Alberola Rojas (ESP), Jaanovits (EST) and Colombo (ITA).
Could few or no appointments means that the National Associations should take the referee out of the list? This idea is only for Elite and First, the Second Category-referees have very few matches during springtime!
UEFA policy is for the national associations to remove a referee from the FIFA listing. The ref committee will not demote an elite referee they simply don’t appoint him or appoint him to the lower competitions with far fewer games

ReplyDeleteDefinitely, and I’m pleased to see that politics and nepotism this time haven’t played a major role in the recategorisation process.

No promotions no demotions?
ReplyDeleteWhat is the point of leaving Stieler, Sidiropoulos and Grinfeeld in the elite group of referees?
Not because they are bad, but considering their treatment and appointments in recent years
Personally i believe its respect, especially after the case of Collum, being there for years.
DeleteStieler definitely didn’t get bad games the last years. See for e.g. ECL QF 2nd leg Olympiakos - Fener last season and Porto - Roma this season.
DeleteWho from the second category should move up to the first?

DeleteI think referees like luis godinho and ricardo de burgos or antonio nobre deserved to be promoted to the elite because they are talented referees
ReplyDeleteFor me, Jablonski is also a candidate for the elite group
