sorry guys, didn't mean to shock you.... The "Break a leg" expression reflects a superstition in which wishing a person "good luck" is considered bad luck. So if you want somebody to perform well; never say "good luck" :-)

DeleteFrom Skomina viewing angle (which we first see in video), Columbian player was not moving very much. Japanese player came from distance and moved into him. Not a clear and obvious error. Unfortunately it results in goal.

You didn't get the light hearted fun obviously... I just eluded to the fact that he is the only one among this group to serve as 4th official in 2 World Cup tournaments!

ReplyDeleteGood Skomina in an easy game... Good penalty + RC early and very positive impression throughout... Only blemish is the wrong free kick awarded but with Japan winning that is almost negated out... He will definitely get a second important game!
ReplyDeleteIf i can make a point, you are to easily saying that games are easy for refereeing. For me only games for which you can say that are first couple of games and yesterdays second game. It is different thing that in most other games we had referees who did a good job and made it seam like routine job
DeleteIn every game the quality of the referee is important to note... Russia v Saudi Arabia and Egypt v Uruguay were not easy just like that, the referees with their pedigree made it easy for themselves and out of the respect for those referees, players didn't do anything out of the board... Same for Skomina here, he kept full control and never made the match difficult for himself, players respected him and trusted him... No game in World Cup is "easy" just like that and sometimes it's the referee involved that makes things easy for themselves or otherwise (like Roldan completely messed up an otherwise easy game)... But yes overall this game or the first couple of games weren't as combative as say Portugal v Spain or Germany v Mexico, so from that point of view the ones mentioned are easy games! :)
DeleteI would disagree that the game was so easy. There was a lot of passioned tackles and possible confrontational situations. Skomina managed the game well; he didn't call every players' flop and dealt with simulation with verbal warnings only.

Foul before COL goal was wrong and I think that his concentration went down at the end of the half.
He definitely deserves the second game.
Well, that is my point. When you say for games like this that they are easy, i think you are actually undermining how good referee actually was. It was not at all easy, he just made it look that way with his good performance

DeleteOverall solid. Liked his foul detection overall, the card selection in-line with his style. Wrong free kick decision is the big blemish. But that should never stop him from getting at least one more game, for me a good candidate for quarter-finals even.
ReplyDeleteI thought Skomina did a very good job with foul detection, prevention and communication. Most important decision was the PK+RC: brave and correct. Only an easy decision because he was in a good position.
ReplyDeleteImpressed with his management of the players, he was accepted and respected by all the players and was authoritative without being obtrusive. Contributed to a good match flow.
FK before 1-1 was never a defensive foul, so -0.2 for that. My mark would be 8.3. I would like to see him in another match in the group stage.
He will surely get another game as he made a really positive impression today... Good chance to see him in games like Argentina v Nigeria, Peru v Australia or even France v Denmark on MD3... To mention, this was a perfect appointment for Skomina, the tempo and pace of the match suited it well and he looked very comfortable throughout the match... Really well done!
DeleteAh, 90+4 I believe YC for Kawashima (Japan goalie) for time wasting. Cameras were focused on the fans but judging from the time that passed, correct decision.
ReplyDeleteSkomina did well by and large. I can't say he did very well because of that wrong FK resulting in Colombia's goal but luckily it had no bearing on final result. As usual, excellent fitness, elegant run, natural authority, common sense in management of all situations.
