Referee of the Year - Alireza Faghani is the best 2018 AFC referee

The sixth contest of our "Referee of the Year", in cooperation with guesstheref.com, is over. Alireza Faghani from Iran has been voted as the best 2018 AFC referee with  370 points.
The referee from Iran has officiated at 2018 FIFA WC two group-stage matches, a round of 16 and then Third place final.. He has shown an excellent control in all the games, with a very strong body language and players management. In addition, he has managed to end all his games without any single VAR intervention, the most challenging one has been for sure the round of 16 between France and Argentina, ended with an amazing score of 4-3. For sure AFC has reached the top thank to the referee from Iran, who could be still there in Qatar 2022.

To follow, Nawaf Shukralla from Bahrain with 217 points. Russia 2018 has been his second WC, in which he has confirmed to be a quite reliable referee, with two group stage games. Unluckily, he missed the opportunity to officiate in KO stage, but for sure he is still among the best Asian referees.

Ravshan Irmatov from, Uzbekistan is third-placed with 135 points. His WC has been below expectations, with two group stage games and nothing more, but for sure he is still recognized among the best AFC referees with a more than big experience. He has consolidate his record of WC games officiated by a single referee (11) and maybe this is enough for certain aspects for being at least mentioned.
