Kuipers is already 46 and Rocchi will be 46 in a 2 months, but they are in list for next season! How it`s possible?
ReplyDeleteBecause new list for every year is in January and that last till Decembar. When 2019 started both had 45 which was enuff to stay.
DeleteThe age limit has been removed officially. Although refs older than 45 can be asked for extra requirements, the age itself is not a reason to stop refereeing for Uefa. In Spain though there is a 45y age limit, so that is why Undiano had to quit. In The Netherlands at national level there have been referees much older than Kuipers and also in England there are referees who are older at national level. Age is not the limit.
Delete5' correct (delayed) offside flag by AR2.
ReplyDeleteA few before, possible YC after a mistake by defender, Treimanis didn't show it, maybe not a 100% clear one.
More or less expected level for Treimanis, hecould have shown more cards, however the only crucial decision was right (offside, AR2).
ReplyDeleteMaybe a less "polished" performance than other referees, but still OK.
An interesting situation to be mentioned is a handball whistled in second half when Spain had a big chance to score on the subsequent free kick (crossbar and ball on the line). I think referee can be backed in this case but maybe more PLAY ON than deliberate.
Referees for friday games are not released? In normal order should be Gozbuyuk and Ekberg. Because Kabakov is the last referee to handle a game and Kovacs get a second match.
ReplyDeleteStill not released.
DeleteThis is strange. In CL and EL is two days before the game.
DeleteMinute 24' in Italy - Poland, play on by Kulbakov following a penalty appeal by Italy. In my opinion it was Italian attacker to create the contact, so play on better solution, maybe even correct decision.
ReplyDeleteIndeed VAR supported this choice.
About Kulbakov, he is the first elite referee in this competition?
DeleteI think so, but on paper he will be Elite only starting from 25 June, as it is reported on the official PDF. So for now he is still Category 1 at this tournament for the next week... :)
DeleteI must say assistant referees at this tournament are making a very good work about delayed flag, sometimes even unnecessary to wait so much, but what is important is to take correct decision, and now AR2 reported offside to disallow 1-1 by Italy, VAR confirmed.
ReplyDeleteHowever, unnecessary VAR gesture by Kulbakou after VAR confirmed assistant's offside call!
DeleteTotally agree both of you.
DeleteVery challenging first half for Kulbakou
ReplyDeleteVery sad news: Former English FIFA referee Bobby Madley collapsed during a fitness test in his new home country Norway. He is hospitalised and in a serious condition. Wish him all the best and a speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteTerrible news. Let's wish him all the best.
DeleteIs there any confirmation of this? I have not read this anywhere else and have seen tweets from Bobby Madley's account since.
DeleteHope all is ok of course.
Kulbakov facing a challenging second half. Another penalty appeal by Italy, he played on. Still supportable choice. Now a possible RC for SFP, very raised leg hitting opponent, VAR doesn't intervene. Not a 100% clear RC but for me better RC there. Very, very dangerous.
ReplyDeleteSame feeling here, I think this was a case for RC.
DeleteThis was a clear and obvious red card. There was nothing to even discuss. Unbelievable VAR.
DeleteNot surprised. Kulbakov has proven over years he is perfectly willing to ignore or not punish such challenges. How he got to be Elite is honestly beyond me.

OT: News about VAR in PL

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/vars-in-premier-league-will-not-order-penalty-re-take-if-goalkeeper-comes-off-line-next-season-ffd6h0qbq
So IFAB protocol will not be applied in the same way in different countries?
DeleteIFAB should exclude The FA from VAR use if they are proud to ignore the protocol and Laws of the Game.
DeleteAgreed with Anonymous. PGMOL's Anglocentric anti-intellectualism is incredibly irritating; they are genuinely convinced that not having On-Field Reviews will ensure a better execution of Video Assistant Refereeing. PGMOL don't care about the referees, only about the "product" of Premier League football, the referees are the 'idiots', and just used as cogs in a larger machine.
DeleteI cannot bare to see officiating in my country be destroyed by this organisation, who have nothing to do with real refereeing.
Premier League is the best league in the world, with the most average referees ( Old refs still handling derbies in lack of new talents, top position at average ref age amongst other leagues, big gap between the 2 best refs right now (Oliver, Taylor) and the rest).
DeleteStrange decision from the FA. It's one of the LOTG. And it's better to spot with a VAR than live.
DeleteWhats next: a country who says 'we wil not rule on offside'?
Mike Riley and co always want to be unique but they get it all wrong and it's quite frustrating but for the OFR I recently heard Riley had a U-turn and there will be on field monitors for the main referee to review
DeleteYeah there will be on-field reviews next season after Riley had a U-turn, but Riley's management and progression of referees is dreadful. Too loyal to referees who aren't up to standard e.g. Mason and Moss in particular but doesn't give referees like Kavanagh and Tierney who are FIFA refs an opportunity of handling a top 6 game, giving them less chances of improving.

3' Correct offside call by AR2
31' Good decision by AR2 to raise his flag
I didn't like his easy fouls whistled in attack.
Delete71' Kabakov whistled a penalty for Austria. Interesting situation. Did Denmark player firstly touchs the ball?
ReplyDeletehttps://streamable.com/qjs6g
I am quite sure, he did touch the ball first, therefore a doubtful penalty for me.
DeleteIt's very strange that they gave us replay from only two angles
DeleteThe key question here for referee by VAR is: "Did you see that defender touched the ball at first?".
DeleteIndeed, and now we must assume, that Kabakov answered "Yes". Then a VAR intervention becomes difficult, because probably the referee would not change his opinion after seeing the pictures.
DeleteHowever it still can be a wrong penalty...
Yes, after me. I don't know what VAR referee was doing.

49' Kabakov didn't show YC to Denmark player for illegal use of hands. He choosed strong verbal warning.
ReplyDelete64' Good time for first YC (stamping)
Crucial moments:
70' Correct decision from AR2 to disallow Denmark goal
71' Bulgarian whistled a penalty for Austria. Interesting situation. Did Denmark player firstly touchs the ball.
In my opinion acceptable decision by Kabakov.
Correct decision to give a YC for DOGSO in penalty area because Denmark player try to play the ball
Obvious mistake for me with penalty. Clear played the ball.
ReplyDeleteVAR didn't call him.
DeleteSo, we can't say it's clear.
There are four possibilities, why there was no OFR:
Delete1. Kabakov saw, that the ball was played
2. Guida considered it a clear penalty (i.e. no need to discuss it with the referee)
3. Guida did not see, that the ball was played
4. Someting went wrong in the VAR process (e.g. communication)
The options could overlap.
10' Kovács is forgive YC to Pantic for illegal use of hands.
ReplyDeleteStrong verbal warning.
13' Very good offside call by AR1
Delete36. interesting incident- goal scored after Germans gained possession after foul- was the var intervention impossible because there was a touch by another Serbian after the foul?
ReplyDelete36' Before 3rd goal was a clear foul commited by Germany's deffender.
ReplyDeleteCould VAR be able to call Covàcs?
https://streamable.com/6uxx1
VAR would be absolutely allowed to intervene in case of foul there, it is clearly the beginning of attacking phase leading to goal.
DeleteAR2 Artene was closer and he had better angle than Kovács.
Deletehttps://ibb.co/8zyC72Q
One can argue that the beginning of attacking phase is due to poor deliberate play by another Serbian player, not due to foul by German and therefore VAR intervention is not possible.
DeleteI can't be sure about this touch by Serbian player, did you check it? Because it looks to me that he tries to hit the ball but he doesn't succeed.
DeleteYou are right- German player played the ball, not Serbian. Sorry for confusion!!
Delete@Chefren

As I know Balkan mentality,I was very surprised there was no complaints from Serbians regarding that incident.
ReplyDeleteAlso,we saw in Serie A that VAR was being called im similar if not the same situations so maybe there was nothong at all.
Game is done, now Kovacs has to watch out for Setbians who will be frustrated so he should be careful about that.
So far average from him.

DeleteAnd now 2nd Deportivo goal controversial.
Ball nearly crosses the line,AR makes the call that gives Deportivo goal.
Now we see improtance of VAR and goal line technology.
What are your predictions - which referees could proceed to the KO stage based on the performances so far?
ReplyDeleteWe shiould wait the second game from all the referees. After the first game I liked Jovanovici.
ReplyDeleteThe performance I liked more so far is Jovanovic in England - France.
ReplyDeleteAfter this result in Ger Srb I think that in case of good preformance in Italy Belgium I think that Jovanovic is contender and top favorite for final.

1) Looks like a penalty, but not completely clear from the shown camera angles.
Delete2) correct (including the delayed flag)
3) Clearly wrong: The defender gets the ball first and the attacker is jumping down before the contact.
3) I think the attacker, who still has the big chance to get the ball, tries to jump over the sliding defender who performs extra legs movement that could be classified as trip. Personally, I like the call.
DeleteWatching carefully, there is indeed a particular movement of leg by defender, at least this makes the situation not 100% clear...

1) RC would be harsh, YC is the better decision
Delete2) Probably a missed foul, and started the attacking phase
3) Probably a missed foul. I am not sure, whether VAR needs to consider it, because it clearly had no influence on the penalty. Maybe a missed YC for DOGSO for the penalty?
1) Clear RC. VAR should intervene. Serbian player hit the opponent's head! Here's a screenshot of the moment of impact: https://ibb.co/LNXSqRS
DeleteMy view
DeleteIn favour of RC:
- player committing foul saw his opponent
- very high hitting point
In favour of YC:
- contact only by side of shoe/leg
- still not central contact with face
Other opinions? Could be a quite interesting discussion...
Delete32' correct delayed offside flag by AR2, a goal scored by Romania was disallowed.
ReplyDeleteI must say in both FIFA Women and Under 21 assistant referees wait in all situations, they don't raise flag even when offside is absolutely clear (this was the case).
This is differently from what we see in Italy, not all the attacking actions are allowed to continue. I can guess that international committees (both UEFA and FIFA) have decide to make it easier (wait in all situations), in order to have zero mistakes.
I don't think this is true. The issue is that the ARs at tournaments are new to VAR and they are afraid of making mistakes. This delay tactic is brand new to them and they each only have 2-3 matches to attempt it. They are officiating scared.
DeleteIn domestic league matches, the ARs have MUCH more training, get used to the tactic very quickly, and their tournament (or career) isn't over if they make a mistake. It's much more comfortable for ARs who have VAR in their domestic leagues.
I really doubt this FIFA instructed thier ref to delay the flag.
Delete74': clear penalty to Romania whistled by Ekberg. No need of VAR.
ReplyDeleteVery good Serdar today! I don't know if this will allow him to be appointed to KO stage but I would like to see him in another challenging game after ITAESP (approach, control, etc.).
ReplyDeleteDoes anybody knows something about Gözübüyük's performance tonight?
ReplyDeleteVery good @Whistle
DeleteVery good game from team Gozubuyuk with good VAR team. I watch the full game. This season I saw Gozubuyuk in the Supercup en Cup Final and again 2 excellent performance.
ReplyDeleteGood performance by Gozubuyuk this evening, indeed, with one correct decision about a possible penalty for handball (referee was in control, he made clear gestures), VAR confirmed. Arm was close to body.
ReplyDeleteAs for the rest, mandatory yellow cards correctly issued.
Easy game, good refereeing by the whole team. I noticed a more positive player interaction today compared to ITA-SPA.
