  1. Interesting appointment for Irfan Peljto. Youth league semi-final and now Belgium-Kazahstan, maybe he is category 1 in the next season?

  4. Intresting games for Jovanovic and Taylor!

  5. Another game for Al-Hakim in Russia but Strombergsson as a fourth offical?
    His last game in Armenia?

  6. I think that Blom will retire after 2019, and that Kamphuis will take his spot. However, I don't think that he wil stop already. It's a match that needs an experienced referee, but not an ELITE one. Blom is perfect for that.

Anyway, Blom can look back at a remarkable career. He went up to ELITE very fast, had a great season, and than mismanaged a match in Scotland (bad luck), got only 2 minor matches in CL and was dropped again. After that, he really was in a bad place and had a bad season, but after that he has been there for years, without any significant problem and with usually relevant matches.

An honourable mention should be for the way he helped Makkelie at the start of his career. The former ELITE referee even went to Sweden u21 in december, as fourth official. And he is still part of his team.

  7. Wow! After the Champions League Final now an important match in EURO 2020 Qualification for Damir Skomina. Rade Obrenovic will attend as fourth officall. Clear signal by UEFA for young, talented referees.

Also for Anthony Taylor a big appointment between Greece and Italy.Big achievement after an excellent European season with two matches at intermediate stage, one last 16,one Quater-Final in Europa League.Very hard to decide which english referee is the future for European and international tournaments.Michael Oliver ahead of Taylor in FIFA and vice versa.

Istvan Kovacs will attend the pointing way match between Croatia and Wales. After an expected European club season (CL and EL) he is in my opinion a candidate for further matches. Two games in Nations League and already one EURO 2020 Qualification match in France.Great development!

Solid and unspectacular appointments for Ola Hobbar Nilsen,Nikola Popov and Fábio José da Costa Veríssimo,Kevin Blom and Daniel Stefanski.

For Robert Madden an interesting appointment between two EURO 2016 teams: Iceland agaisnt Albania. After some European experience this year and two national Finals (Scottish League One Playoffs,Scottish Premiership Playoffs) a positive match for him!

What a season for Irfan Peljto, the bosnian talent.Europa League debut and an excellent Youth League Semifinal.Great development in the last year and a potential candidate for more matches in the future.

With Bojan Pandzic and Mohammed Al-Hakim we will see two Swedish referees. After the retirement of Jonas Eriksson was Sweden no topic anymore. But with this two talented referees,Sweden will have a realistic chance for hotter games.

Srdjan Jovanovic-33-year-old Serbian referee.UEFA needs to know that they have a big talent in their rows. His development this season is amazing!Three matches in Europa League, one Nations League, one Qualification and more and more.I watched him a few times this year and I have to say that he is a real talent with many chances for UEFA Elite!

    1. 2 ”New”swedish referee after Andreas Ekberg, what happend to Strombergsson no more games only fourth offical after Armenia-Macedonia that was very low class. Uefa replace him? I think its important test for Pandzic, high rank Observer..

    2. Good analysis. I would also point out Verissimo's match: On paper, a quite open match between teams currently on 2nd and 3rd place. IMO one of the best matches for the 2nd category referees. And it's his first competitive match between senior national teams.

  8. Ethiopian ref Bamelak Tesema is claiming that CAF 3rd Vice President and the president of Morocco FA and RS Berkane headbutted him after the CAF Confed Cup final which Berkane lost to Zamalek, Ethiopia FC has since written a protest letter to CAF.

I expect it will be promations after this season.

For sure many changes in the groups.

    3. Big tests for Pandzic, Bognar Nilsen, Kovacs

      All referees can be promated

    4. A promotion for Bognar seems unlikely without previous CL matches.

  10. So no VAR for the qualifiers but how come no additional assistants?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Additional assistant referees have been officially abolished with the end of this season, the project is not compatible with VAR.
This means that UEFA can't go on in instructing additional assistant referees when the focus is on VAR, so there will be some games without any additional help for referee, but the target is to have VAR in future in almost all competitions, including European qualifiers.

  11. Kovács with an ok-ish first half, three potential YCs (14', 24', 31'), one given (28'). Especially the first one a difficult choice. Welsh player got the ball, but hit the opponent high above the ankle afterwards.

Not at all convinced by Madden, it must be said. Ignored PI by ALB #19 twice, third time he gave a good advantage; Iceland scored and he booked the player finally. This scene itself was well handled, but otherwise little personality. YC for simulation at 33' can be supported. But one big point is that he completely fails to deal with dissent: ALB #4 even shoulder-barged him without as much as a reaction (29', 33', 37', 45').

Jedvan gets YC,very orange card .

  13. Who gonna watch France-Turkey?

  14. Solid performance by Anthony Taylor in Greece against Italy.Good foul detecion, offisde positions were detected and all three YCs were correct.Overall very unspectacular for the referee team.

    1. Overall a good/solid performance by Anthony Taylor. Two correct evaluated penalty situation. The second half was like a international friendly game: fair and unremarkable.

    2. Except for a clear missed YC to GRC #22 at 55'. Taylor opted for a stern warning, but the way he gestured it was clear that he knew it should have been a card. Maybe he thought the game was already decided and nobody would complain too much, but it should not work like that.

      Delete
    3. Yes, I forget to write the crystal clear missed YC for the Greek player.

      Delete
    4. That would have been 2nd YC for the Greek player
