Valeri's decision as VAR in Fiorentina - Napoli has been officially assessed as wrong by AIA, he will be out from next serie A's matchday, according to some reports, but of course this appointment was made before that...

ReplyDeleteThe order of Stegemann and Dingert is a bit surprising, because Stegemann was only AVAR at the WWC and Dingert was VAR at the U21 EURO.
So Brych has no problems anymore with his old team.

ReplyDeleteIrmatov was appointed (or elected I don't know) as the vice president of Uzbekistan FA and he will pause his referee career for now.
Disallowed goal in Brugge by AR1 Borsch: correct decision, VAR confirmed. Very tight offside.
ReplyDeleteGood Zwayer so far. Perfect card management (3 cards, one reckless arm, one SPA and one a „mixture of both“). I absolutely love the way he communicates. He is the boss but is somehow on the same level as the players instead of blocking everyone that wants to talk off. Even the game is quite hot he manages to keep control

DeleteSlightest offside I‘ve ever seen but correct to disallow goal for Ajax by German crew. However I don‘t understand why Zwayer was invited for an OFR since it was no interpretation needed. However correct decision in the end
ReplyDeleteThe only reason for which that offside position might be punishable is interfering with an opponent. As that is not something objective, the referee must perform an OFR to decide whether the player interferes with an opponent or not.

ReplyDeleteIMO that is not enough to say that he interffered, he was completely behind the whole time after the fk was taken. Unless he made a foul (and it wasnt whistled) , i think it is a mistake.

DeleteI have a 'mixed feelings' about Zwayer tonight. He missed some yellow cards in the second half, for me 53rd minute is a RC. But on the other hand, full in controll during entire match, good foul detection, VAR situation well done. Apart from disallowed goal, which will probably be used as a teaching material, I dont think anybody will talk about Zwayer tonight. In that contex- Zwayer was ok tonight.
ReplyDeleteI rewatched penalty and 2YC in Brych's game. Penalty - there is a contact (even Brych took a second or two before he whistled it) but I personaly would not whistle that as a penalty. But supportable call from my point of view. 2YC for LASK's captain absolutely correct.

ReplyDeleteWell done to elite group referee Clement Turpin who halted a Ligue 1 match after a homophobic banner and chants. He then removed the Nice and Marseille players from the pitch.
ReplyDeleteO.T. It seems that Ravshan Irmatov has announced his retirement to become vice president of Uzbek F.A. Outstanding carrier and fantastic achievements at world level by a referee coming from a country which is not at top level in the football (with all respect). I always appreciate his refereeing even if in the latest period he became too much lenient and made some mistakes.

Delete2nd yellow card - too soft for careless 2nd yellow.
81' is not reckless IMO, but clearly SPA with nobody behind them. If the attacker gets the ball and turns, he is free in front of the goal.
DeleteSPA was on my mind too, but the attacker did not have the ball under control and there was a very little room for him to have it under control as the goalkeeper would be the first to have it. The 2nd YC should be issued for clear and obvious offences, and this one was not the case. At least that is how I see it.

ReplyDeleteI think the VAR intervention was justified. But in the stadium it remains very unclear what exactly happens. That must be improved
I think a second yellow card (48) and a direct red card (56) could have been possible. What is your opinion?
I agree with you, both decisions would have been better than what Zwayer did but maybe in both situations small arguments also in favor of the choices made by German referee. I remember Zwayer in PSG - Napoli, he had two quite clear red cards, he prefered YC. Maybe in such situations, he always goes for the minor punishment, but if I'm not wrong I remember in past he was not in trouble when having to show clear RCs.
