  1. Valeri's decision as VAR in Fiorentina - Napoli has been officially assessed as wrong by AIA, he will be out from next serie A's matchday, according to some reports, but of course this appointment was made before that...

  2. No surprise here with the remaining 3 names.
The order of Stegemann and Dingert is a bit surprising, because Stegemann was only AVAR at the WWC and Dingert was VAR at the U21 EURO.

  3. So Brych has no problems anymore with his old team.

  4. I don't know if you heard about Irmatov but I got the news very recently.

Irmatov was appointed (or elected I don't know) as the vice president of Uzbekistan FA and he will pause his referee career for now.

  5. Disallowed goal in Brugge by AR1 Borsch: correct decision, VAR confirmed. Very tight offside.

  6. Good Zwayer so far. Perfect card management (3 cards, one reckless arm, one SPA and one a „mixture of both“). I absolutely love the way he communicates. He is the boss but is somehow on the same level as the players instead of blocking everyone that wants to talk off. Even the game is quite hot he manages to keep control

    1. Agree, no problem for Zwayer in Amsterdam. Absolutely perfect card management, very consistent regarding YCs.

  7. Slightest offside I‘ve ever seen but correct to disallow goal for Ajax by German crew. However I don‘t understand why Zwayer was invited for an OFR since it was no interpretation needed. However correct decision in the end

    1. The only reason for which that offside position might be punishable is interfering with an opponent. As that is not something objective, the referee must perform an OFR to decide whether the player interferes with an opponent or not.

    2. But the player played the ball so it was clear :)

    3. He was invited to check if the impact of the attacking player being in offside position is enough for the call

      Delete
    4. No, he didn't! The ball went to another player that was behind him!

    5. He didn't played the ball, he blocked the defender

    6. OK then I am wrong, I‘m sorry everything well done by Stegemann :)

    7. I think a video would be good. ;)

  8. Very interesting situation in Amsterdam Arena. Goal canceled after OFR for offside for attacker impacting the process of the defender.

  9. GLT and VAR in the same situation in Amsterdam. Very interesting situation regarding disallowed goal for Ajax, if someone could post the video. Player who scored was not offside, but another player was in offside, and he wqs punished for interfering with opponent

  10. Now missed RC (IMO) for APOEL by Zwayer and VAR. Crucial mistake by both.

  11. 57'Now RC challenge by Apoel player,Zwayer showed only YC,looks like VAR backed it up.

    1. Not red for me because there was no deliberate stamp but I think RC would have been supportable

  12. I agree with George and M - clear RC for SFP to be given. Crucial mistake.

  13. I agree with George and M, 57 minute should be a red card.

  14. IMO that is not enough to say that he interffered, he was completely behind the whole time after the fk was taken. Unless he made a foul (and it wasnt whistled) , i think it is a mistake.

    1. A replay shows him slightly holding the defender, who fell to the ground. That call is supportable.

    2. Slightly... Ok, maybe supportable but i dont think it would be mistake if he allowed a goal.

  15. Well, after great card management in the first half, now some missed yellow cards by Zwayer (e.g. 74 minute) for Ajax captain.

    1. I agree. He already showed many cards and as we know UEFA doesn‘t like cards...

    2. Basen on 4 YCs in the first half, 93rd minute is also a missed YC...

      Delete
    3. And 48’ a 2nd YC for Merkis?

  16. I have a 'mixed feelings' about Zwayer tonight. He missed some yellow cards in the second half, for me 53rd minute is a RC. But on the other hand, full in controll during entire match, good foul detection, VAR situation well done. Apart from disallowed goal, which will probably be used as a teaching material, I dont think anybody will talk about Zwayer tonight. In that contex- Zwayer was ok tonight.

  17. I rewatched penalty and 2YC in Brych's game. Penalty - there is a contact (even Brych took a second or two before he whistled it) but I personaly would not whistle that as a penalty. But supportable call from my point of view. 2YC for LASK's captain absolutely correct.

  18. Performance of Zwayer was jocosely.. :)

  19. Well done to elite group referee Clement Turpin who halted a Ligue 1 match after a homophobic banner and chants. He then removed the Nice and Marseille players from the pitch.

  20. O.T. It seems that Ravshan Irmatov has announced his retirement to become vice president of Uzbek F.A. Outstanding carrier and fantastic achievements at world level by a referee coming from a country which is not at top level in the football (with all respect). I always appreciate his refereeing even if in the latest period he became too much lenient and made some mistakes.
I guess that a dedicated post in this blog should be fair for a great referee

  21. Is there a clip of the possible red card at Ajax-Apoel in minute 57?

  22. Crucial scenes from the Club Brugge - Linzer ASK game handled by Felix Brych:

    => 73' Penalty for a careless tackle

=> 81' 2nd Yellow Card for reckless tackle / SPA

    1. PK - supportable decision
2nd yellow card - too soft for careless 2nd yellow.

      Delete
    2. 81' is not reckless IMO, but clearly SPA with nobody behind them. If the attacker gets the ball and turns, he is free in front of the goal.

      Delete
    3. SPA was on my mind too, but the attacker did not have the ball under control and there was a very little room for him to have it under control as the goalkeeper would be the first to have it. The 2nd YC should be issued for clear and obvious offences, and this one was not the case. At least that is how I see it.

  23. Can you report the exact minute of possible RC in Ajax - APOEL?
    And also the other incidents.
I'm about to downlad the game, I can make clips.

    1. That would be nice. Exact minute of the possible rc is the 56 minute of the game.

VAR intervention offside was in the 49 minute.

Also possible RC in the 34 minute. Elbow from Merkis on Tadic

  25. Thank you very much. I was in the stadium as a Ajax fan so I am not objective;)

I think the VAR intervention was justified. But in the stadium it remains very unclear what exactly happens. That must be improved

I think a second yellow card (48) and a direct red card (56) could have been possible. What is your opinion?

    1. I agree with you, both decisions would have been better than what Zwayer did but maybe in both situations small arguments also in favor of the choices made by German referee. I remember Zwayer in PSG - Napoli, he had two quite clear red cards, he prefered YC. Maybe in such situations, he always goes for the minor punishment, but if I'm not wrong I remember in past he was not in trouble when having to show clear RCs.
