Wow, amazing game for Taylor! Also for Makkelie.
ReplyDeleteRocchi in Greece, maybe to deal with hot atmosphere.
It was bigger names on Tuesday...
ReplyDeleteGreat game for Anthony Taylor - he is in really great shape at the moment! Inconceivable that he won't attend EURO if he passes to the end of the year without (bigger) mistakes.
ReplyDeleteI would say that the most significant appointment is Paweł Raczkowski under the eyes of Leslie Irvine in Leverkusen.
Not important observer?
DeleteAbsolutely excellent appointment for Danny Makkelie and especially Anthony Taylor. I didn't expect the English to get THIS huge match, but it is surely deserved after Crvena zvezda-Young Boys and Slovenia-Israel (report to be found on the blog). Furthermore, the presence of Herbert Fandel might indicate something. Taylor really deserves to attend EURO 2020, no doubt about that!
ReplyDeleteAnd what about Oliver? Second EURO in row with two englishmen?
DeleteFor Euro 2020, I'm expecting two referees from England, Spain, Germany and Netherland
DeleteAre you sure that Rocchi won't be in Euro 2020? He will retire on December? I'm not sure...
DeleteRumors in Italy say that he will loose his FIFA badge end of December and will retire in June 2020 after one year derogation in Italy. Chefren do you confirm ?
DeleteCongratulations to Anthony Taylor, Danny Makkelie and Ovidiu Haţegan for their big appointments. Let's hope the 1st Matchday will start well for everyone!
DeleteThis is what we know as for now, maybe something could change, but the confirmation for 2019 on FIFA list for Rocchi was seen as the last act of his international career. He just wanted to officiate the final of an European competition, and he did that. He is already 46 years old and as you maybe remember, in Italy, if you are not a FIFA referee, age limit is 45. We will see.
DeleteWOW, game of his life for Taylor !! I think. If he will pass under the eyes of Fandel, I think that he will be at EURO 2020. Big appointment for him, unexpected to me.
ReplyDeleteBig engagement for Makkelie too, congratulation
Many 1st category appointed: 5 between tuesday and Wednesday, I didn't expect Raczkowski; probably some elite will officiate in Europe League during the 1st two matchdays. Poor assignment for Gil manzano in a 1st category match
Are Kuipers and Kralovec still injured ? Kuipers is officiating in Ederwisee if I'm not wrong
Kruzliak and Kassai in EL.
DeleteGil Manzano seems quite stagnated since his promotion to Elite. He's the Spanish candidate for 2022 WC (Mateu and Del Cerro will be retired) but IMO his potential role is not 'world class' but being like his fellow countrymen Arturo Daudén Ibáñez or David Fernández Borbalán, being appointed for big UEL matches and "uncomfortable but not big" UCL GS matches like those in Turkey, Greece, Russia...
DeleteYou are wrong about Kuipers. He has only had 1 match this season, and it was in Eerste Divisie (2nd highest division in the Netherlands) (7 September; MD5; Go Ahead Eagles (10.) 2:2 Excelsior (4.); 2 YCs).
DeleteRegarding Kralovec, he hasn't had a single match this season (his last match was on 16 May in Saudi Professional League).
@Quilava with the current situation, I'm not entirely sure that Mateu Lahoz will retire by then. If the WC was to be played in the usual dates, he would be able to attend. I agree with your opinion about Gil Manzano. If he doesn't improve (and I don't think he ever will, he has had many years already and he has not), FIFA won't select him. On the other hand, Mateu Lahoz is well regarded by both UEFA and FIFA. If his career doesn't fall as Kassai's, I could really expect CTA allowing him to go for one further season/half season until the end of the first leg. It is something that has not happened before, all combined. Let's see what happens, but what I don't see is Gil Manzano in the WC.
Delete@George Fully agree, there are lots of circumstances about 2022 WC that are such a disgrace, but the fact of being played in November-December is a pity because Mateu Lahoz for his age should retire on June 2022. Gil Manzano is the only Spanish candidate left but for me lacks the potential to be a WC referee.
DeleteBiggest match of the round goes to Taylor. Sensible appointment. He is on a really good form.
ReplyDeleteSo Turpin, skomina not appointed
ReplyDeleteFor now Turpin has a problem with uefa....
DeleteBecause of what happen in super cup he was poor in the Var system....
But skomina will be surely back in the next round of the UCL ...
A few notes from past weekend national league games
ReplyDeleteMALLORCA - ATHLETIC CLUB BILBAO, 0-0, Pablo Gonzalez Fuertes
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ue21vWAHQ_Q&feature=onebox
1’ correct YC ATH (SPA)
30’ correct YC (high studs)
71’ possible 2nd YC ATH
80’ correct penalty MAL - tripping
85’ possible holding, no protest
90’ penalty ATH - handball, after OFR - incorrect procedure https://streamable.com
90+5’ VAR review disallows goal for offside
General comment: Gonzalez had an average foul detection (for instance at 14’ and 43’, only one of these similar fouls was whistled). Disciplinary control was much better, brave early YC for SPA and sensible bookings throughout the game. He gave the impression not to be liked by the players for his strict and authoritative style, however the most tense moment he did solve it well, with the players apologising to each others (around 70’). 2 correct penalties, 1st spotted directly, 2nd with VAR but hard to detect live. IMO the 2nd penalty should have been re-taken, if was missed and the defender who then saved it was several metres inside the penalty area as the kick was taken. ARs were good (correct offsides 21’ AR2, 35’ AR1) except for the offside only caught by VAR at 90+5’. Overall positive performance with areas for improvement, he could handle hot clashes, on the other hand his style is more CONMEBOL than UEFA, maybe that’s why he never got international.
WOLVERHAMPTON - CHELSEA, 2-5, Graham Scott
28’ well played advantage but missed YC for 27 WOL
62’ acceptable YC CHE - SPA
63’ correct YC CHE
72’ correct play on - no punishable foul
87’ missed YC WOL
General comment: opposite to Gonzalez, Scott was great in foul detection (very enjoyable and suitable lenient approach, whistling only major contacts) but his card selection was sometimes debatable (28’, 87’). However, his performance was overall satisfactory in an easy game.
RB LEIPZIG - BAYERN MUNCHEN, 1-1, Sascha Stegmann
(replays available on comment by user Mhmd S. AlKhalifi on Saturday’s post)
18’ good advantage and excellent verbal warning to BAY
26’ double YC to BAY (elbow/reaction - correct) and RBL (tackle - harsh decision)
39’ correct decision to disallow penalty to BAY after OFR - no contact from the defender
45+2’ penalty RBL - tripping. I don’t like these penalties, the contact is minimal and the attacker goes down very easily, but there are arguments in favour of the penalty.
General comment: Convincing performance on overall all aspects: acceptance, personality and application of the LotG, only minor mistakes. Excellent fitness. A promising brand new international German referee.
INTERNAZIONALE - UDINESE, 1-0, Maurizio Mariani
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxDh1RyZrNo&feature=onebox
37’ RC to UDI after VAR review for violent conduct - correct decision, but missed YC to INT for provoking
90+2’ debatable whistle on a potentially dangerous attack by INT, with UDI player down in the penalty box but not injured to the head
General comment: not the best game to judge the referee. Some small inconsistencies but decent level of acceptance.
ASSE ST ETIENNE - TOULOUSE FC, 2-2, Jeremy Stinat
Deletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKaVpkLqTbc&feature=onebox
12’ missed YC TOU
13’ penalty TOU - soft penalty for pushing
25’ VAR review after goal, correct confirmation
35’ VAR review - possible penalty for similar pushing to 13’
38’ correct YC STE
41’ missed YC TOU
52’ missed penalty STE- inconsistent with 13’
71’ VAR confirms offside on TOU goal
87’ disallowed goal STE: excellent decision AR1
90+4’ disallowed goal by VAR (offside) - mistake AR1
General comment: disappointing performance with too many inconsistencies in foul detection and disciplinary. In particular, Stinat decided to set a strict approach towards pushing in the penalty box by whistling an early penalty (13’) but did not keep the same line regarding other incidents (35’, 52’). On a positive note, good relationship with players, quick procedure with VAR (but not accurate, IMO) and good foul kick on a player that did not fall to the ground but still was tripped, not everyone would have whistled that (81’). Good management of added time
AS MONACO - OLYMPIQUE MARSEILLE, 3-4, Antony Gautier
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1B-PLdnAnlI&feature=onebox
15’ excellent penalty + YC MAR after handball by defender. Very hard to detect
91’ mass confrontation after a head clash with MAR player taking the ball in his hands before the whistle, therefore risking a potential penalty. Gautier whistled a foul by the attacker - safe decision but was it correct?
General comment: very wise refereeing by Gautier, one of the most experienced in Ligue 1. Excellent penalty spotted, not much else noteworthy in disciplinary and foul detection.
Thanks for all these reports, Osborne. Very appreciated.
DeleteAbout Mariani, I can add that indeed the missed YC for provoking to the player who then caused opponent's reaction, was a blatant mistake. You can't manage such situation only sending off the player who reacted.
There was another possible VAR intervention in occasion of the YC shown to Barella in 28'. Very close to SFP, but I think supporting YC by VAR can be still OK.
You are right Chefren, I forgot to mention that episode. It was noteworthy as it occurred before the RC to Udinese. Here is a link to that episode

OT
ReplyDeleteSascha Stegemann will handle the Greek Classico between Panathinaikos and Olympiakos (22/09 19:30 CET). His Assistants will be Mike Pickel and Frederick Assmuth. FO will be Giorgos Kominis (FIFA, 2nd) and Observer Melo Pereira.
The Thessaloniki Classico (PAOK-ARIS) will be handled by Tasos Sidiropoulos with Kostaras and Baltas as Assistants.
This is how Melo Pereira works? Inviting foreign referees and even being paid for that?
DeleteI think excellent call by Rocchi with this penalty to Tottenham (minute 25').
ReplyDeleteHe indeed punished the last contact between players that was clearly inside the box. Stupid action by defender.
Yes, excellent decision. VAR probably confirmed it.
DeleteAgreed - very good decision. I really liked his natural way of managing the protests too.
DeleteVideo: https://streamable.com/z2ghn
DeleteCorrect offside call by AR2 confirmed by VAR to disallow a goal scored by Tottenham.
ReplyDeleteSecond penalty of the game - another correct decision by Rocchi.
ReplyDelete3 crucial decisions without VAR interventiom, it is something very good.
Now a correct penalty for Olympiakos. Excellent performance by Rocchi so far.
ReplyDelete40' form me foul was commited by defender(penalty kick)
ReplyDelete52' clear penalty but also reckless
ReplyDeleteAccording to M. Clattenburg, penalty to Napoli by Brych was a correct decision.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/columnist-1202970/Mark-Clattenburg-Daily-Mail.html
One can disagree, but if such opinions exist, it can hardly be a clear and obvious mistake.
DeleteGood luck to Mr. Taylor and Mr. Makkelie, very important games for them tonight !
ReplyDeleteInteresting end of the game in Brugge with a clear foul and mandatory YC now leading to a dangerous free kick for home-team when added time is already over.
ReplyDeleteInteresting possible hand/penalty situation in Paris after 50 seconds!
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion absolutely OK to play on, never a clear mistake.
DeletePenalty could have been whistled (no mistake) but in that case, very harsh decision. I agree with Taylor.
With the new interpretations of the LotG, I'm more for penalty than play on
DeleteHAND WAS OUT OF BODY.FOR ME PENALTY
ReplyDelete2-1 scored by Real Madrid is clear handball, even deliberate before change of the rules. Taylor must rewatch and disallow.
ReplyDeleteOh good that at least in Champions League English referees go to rewatch incidents! Thanks Rosetti!
DeleteCorrect decision to disallow the goal, surely
DeleteCorrect to deny the goal IMO, harsh, but handball...
DeleteI still don't think an OFR is really required in such situations. Maybe it makes it easier to sell the decision, but if there is no interpretation by the referee needed, they could spare the time for the OFR.
DeleteDanny superb.
ReplyDeleteVery reliable referee.
DeleteTaylor is so pretty perfomance what a game ig was
ReplyDeleteWow what‘s your opinion to the second denied goal for Real? Extremely difficult situation but I agree with the decision
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion excellent call by AR2 in Paris with this disallowed goal for offside. Lucas Vazquez interfered with the play, defender had also to run close to him for reaching the ball. Allowing goal would have been more controversial for me, but still maybe not 100% wrong...
ReplyDeleteMaybe to be compared with the first Lokomotiv goal, which was allowed?
DeleteThe difference being there was no opponent near the Lokomotiv player who was coming back from an offside position. Getting in the way of your own teammate is not one of the criteria for being involved in active play.
Deletehttps://streamable.com/yuvfr
DeleteI checked now the goal in Leverkusen, this is clearly regular indeed, only interfering by player in offside is with teammate (attacker), no punishable.
DeleteI read possible penalty for Red Star in Munich declined by Madden at 16'. Did anyone see the incident or is there a video?
ReplyDeleteImo no penalty, as the Ball is clearly played. Good tackling.
Delete83' Handball after teammate deflection in Madrid, Makkelie says play on and books Diego Costa for dissent.
ReplyDeleteNow interesting situation in Makkelie's game with a possible penalty for handball. I agree with PLAY ON, not deliberate. The ball had been kicked by a teammate who was very close, trying a clearance.
ReplyDeleteVery poor behavior by Atlético players, they do always that, mobbing the referee. Makkelie was very cool here by showing that card right in front of Diego Costa. You have a player so upset but a referee so firm, it was a very intense scene to see. The Dutch for sure doesn't suffer any pressure.
Is it a surprise with Diego Costa on the field who has never shown any respect to a match official?
DeleteGreat decision to play on and also firm management after heavy protest.
DeleteI really liked the way Makkelie dealt with that. He is a great manager.
DeleteNot convinced by Anthony Taylor today. Far too passive / lenient regarding many late challenges of Real Madrid players in second half. Non-existent management. Three minutes of added time to second half were a joke, same breaks for medical treatment lasted at least three minutes. Trying to be in the shadow at all cost?
ReplyDeleteI say again, Danny magnificent.
ReplyDeleteDanny Makkelie was a joy to watch in a very heated second half.
ReplyDeleteHats off.
Chefren what did you think about Taylor performance tonight...
ReplyDeleteI think it's a good decision for English referee to go to watch TV their self... Because rosseti said that they don't know who is in charge of the var...but they know the referee so the referee should go and check TV and make decision except offside.....
But I think excellent game for him so far... In his first competition game...more to come for him...
I didn't watch the full game, but I'm glad that he went to monitor to rewatch the incident when goal was disallowed. This decision was very difficult to take live from the pitch, I don't think that committee will consider this VAR intervention so much negative for Taylor's performance.
DeleteI also agreed with NO PENALTY decision in first half, and the disallowed goal by AR2 in second half (however, not a 100% black or white decision), if the rest of the game was OK, I think he can be satisfied with this performance in the first CL very big game for him.
Paris Saint-Germain FC v Real Madrid CF (Anthony Taylor)
ReplyDeleteKey Match Incidents:
01' - Handball penalty incident

35' - Goal disallowed for handball [OFR]
https://streamable.com/go8cj
76' - Goal disallowed due to offside
https://streamable.com/q529s
Disciplinary control:
30'-32' - YC Dani Carvajal (RMA) for persistent infringing the LoTG
https://streamable.com/ish35
55' - Play-on call after a similar but not so dangerous follow-through tackle to that on Mount yesterday
https://streamable.com/v84th
81' - YC Vinícius (RMA) for reckless tackle and Di María (PSG) for unsporting behaviour; very late reaction of the referee after the foul
https://streamable.com/4u5p7
84'-88' - very weak, if non-existent, management of late fouls of RMA players, no prevention, no calming down
https://streamable.com/drmrq
90+3' - YC Juan Bernat (PSG) for SPA reckless tackle
https://streamable.com/msc1o
DeleteSeveral play-on calls where a free kick was expected:
https://streamable.com/l3g2r
https://streamable.com/ios0q
https://streamable.com/g70m0
Thanks for the videos! I agree with play on at 1'.
DeleteTo be honest I don't see many similarities between the contact at 55' and yesterday's episode in Chelsea Valencia - lower point of contact and lower intensity, this one is definitely not a SFP to me.
Tbh, most of the play-on calls are good and brave refereeing for me.
DeleteOlympiacos - Tottenham, second penalty whistled by Rocchi:
ReplyDeletehttps://streamable.com/3wmv9
The player fouled by opponent is in clear offside position at the moment of last touch. We must assume this was a deliberate play by defender, VAR for sure checked that.
Clear offside!!!!!
DeleteI think Chefren is right. It looks like it was Erikson who played the ball last.
DeleteBayer Leverkusen vs. Lokomotiv Moscow
ReplyDeleteYour view on possible offside (goal for 0-1) for influencing the game? The player in offside clearly wanted to play the ball...
https://www.goalstube.online/557
Player could be considered offside if he attempts to play the ball which is close to him AND such attempt has an influence/impact on an opponent. Here we miss the second part, so very good decision by the assistant referee and a correct goal scored.
