  1. About Greece, it seems as FIFA has added a new woman referee, but she was not included in UEFA list and new categories: Alexandra Deligianni.

    Here the full FIFA PDF for 2020:

    1. Greece according to reports had 2 empty spots for FIFA women but the initial pdf didn't include them ( race between 3 women for 2 spots). Then Melo Pereira intervened and ultimately just only one name added to the list, this of Deligianni which happens to be one of my closest referee friends and training partner, fact that makes me really happy for her 😁

    2. There are times that I don't understand Melo Pereira and his decisions.

      Deligianni is a 4th League referee (promoted only this year). Piggiou on the other hand (the other candidate for the FIFA spot) is a 3rd League referee and more experienced and yet Deligianni gets the badge.

    3. Shoutout to Matthew Cream for being on the FIFA AR list for his 21st year in a row.

    1. This is an interesting appointment for Shaun Evans as VAR. He of course did the VAR training when Australia became the first country in the entire world to use VAR in it's top flight league. However he has not acted as VAR in the A-League for a couple of years. It seemed that he was removed from the list of VAR's after an incident in an A-League game where he wrongly recommended a yellow card be upgraded to red.
      It will be interesting to see if he will again act as VAR in the A-League after this tournament.

  6. OT
    Starting with Matchweek 22, I won't update my 'VAR at Premier League' spreadsheet after every matchweek as I did before. Instead, I am going to update it only once - after the end of the season (before the start of the next season). But until that you'll be able to find the stats about VAR in the league, information about every review and a video of every review before Matchweek 22 at any time at
    https://thefref.weebly.com/var-at-premier-league.html. Below are some stats extracted.

    Premier League VAR stats after Matchweek 21.
    => 209 matches played (1 postponed).
    => 20 referees have been in the middle of at least one match; 22 match officials have acted as VAR at least one time.
    => Match official with most matches as VAR: Andre Marriner (17).
    => Number of VAR reviews: 63 (63 VAR-only, 0 OFR). That's 0,3 per match or 1 review every 3,32 matches.
    => Distribution of reviews: goal - 42 (67%); penalty - 12 (19%); red card - 5 (8%); penalty retake - 4 (6%).
    If there are any mistakes or something missing in the spreadsheet (any mistaken identity reviews?), please contact me.

  7. Kuwait Crown Prince Cup
    Al Kuwait - Al Arabi

    REF: Sandro Schärer (SUI)
    AR1: 'Ali Karam (KUW)
    AR2: Humud Al-Sahli (KUW)
    4th: Muhammad Al-'Attar (KUW)
    VAR: Abdullah Jimali (KUW)
    AVAR: Zafir Al-'Ajmi (KUW)

    Crucial Situations:

    => 60'

    Satisfactory performance in a generally interesting game for the Swiss referee. Match was challenging until late in the 2H when the players probably got fatigued and then atmosphere on the pitch returned to calm.

    => Referee chose a classic European style for this game: generous approach with some verbal warnings. This was not the best choice - especially the verbal warnings were not really successful - and this inflamed the game a bit, and when referee chose to punish some smaller contacts (besides one or other full mistake in foul detection) in order to calm the game down, it made the players more frustrated.

    => Interesting reckless vs. violent conduct situation at 60' - in my eyes YC was the correct decision, player uses his leg to 'just' trip opponent as part of a tackle, as opposed to violently kicking him down when he had passed him.
    VAR supported the decision.

    => Four cautions were missed (aerial studs tackle 1H; reckless tackle 2H; unpunished standing leg tackle 2ET; unpunished reckless strike 2ET). All cautions given were correct, and specially the first YC, given at the end of 1H, helped the referee keep control.

    => Referee in a couple of scenes looked a little bit discreet in his talks with (especially at) players. Schärer overall uses his frame / natural authority to his advantage - he could do so even more!

    -> Despite the impression that Schärer was not fully prepared for this Arab-mentality match, overall satisfactory performance.

  8. UEFA RAP 2019.2 is out, you can find it at dutchreferee.com

  9. Coming back to the list of the international referees in the FIFA panel, let me say that pdf file is really uncomfortable and difficult to read. Mixing male and female referees in the same table makes it difficult to read it ! I don't like it.
    Is there any possibility to get the age and the date of birth of the referees ? In this file is not reported and it is very difficult to know how long will be the carrier for each of them and especially of they could be candidate for WC 2022.
    I have two questions:
    During previous WC editions, FIFA ref committee identified in advance a pre list of pre candidate for each confederation ? Is it the same for 2022 ? Have you such list ?
    I see that Pitana is still in the panel, while I heard that he was retiring for a political appointment. Is he still in ?

    1. Sorry, I can't help too much you in regard to most of the arguments of your message, it seems as this is the new policy by FIFA in publishing officials without date of births and therefore it is very difficult to know more about that. As I wrote some ays ago, maybe it is also a question of privacy, now with age limits abolishment, date of birth is not that important like before. But for sure it would be interesting to have this info, of course.
      About the list of preselected officials for WC 2022, so far I think there isn't any official document, the first steps were made one year ago, in Doha, Qatar, with the first meeting with VAR. Then other names will be surely added, starting from the officials who attended Under 20 and Under 17 World Cup this year. Maybe on next months (for sure there will be other meetings organized by FIFA) we will know more.
      I don't know about Pitana, this year he will turn 45, I would say 2020 will be his last appearance on the list for him. We will see.

  10. Dalibor Djurdjevic announces on his FB page that his will be his last year on international list.
