  1. Really big match for Karasev! Unexpected for me

Skomina in UEL means no in UCL next week ?

  2. I want to thank Slavko Vinčić and his Slovenian team for having accepted this appointment, for sure it wasn't an easy choice. I'm not sure this game will be played. No observer indicated by UEFA so far. Also, very particular, given the circumstances, to see a Slovenian VAR for the first time in UEFA competitions, this is clearly explained: UEFA didn't want to appoint another team from a different country just for this role, and it was impossible to see Italian officials there.
Slovenian and Italian officials who will work together in Wolfsburg. Valeri and Mariani are the only Italian referees appointed. Maybe no other choices there.
I didn't expect Karasev in a sonorous game after the blatant mistake he made on previous appearance, I think this appointment could mean that committee has selected him for EURO, otherwise he would have been out for a while.

    1. Chefren, do you think or know that other referees don't want to go to Milano for Inter match ?

    2. Well, in this panic and mass histeria atmosphere it is great that Slovenian team, as well as Croatian team today in youth league, accepted the appointments.
For me it is unnecessary and wrong to ban and postpone sport events, as athletes are young and healthy people and with no spectators there is no serious threat.

Regarding EURO2020 (as someone mentioned it in comments) , coronavirus is usually present in winter part of the year so it is unlikely that this epidemics will persist for so long in the warm months. I expect normal situation by then.

    3. Sorry #forlan but I cannot agree. In north of Italy there are several young people struggling between life and death in the hospital, needed intensive therapy and special treatments.
It's not panic and mass hysteria. It's a real dangerous situation and believe me, I live in Milan and I have some friends working day and night as doctors in the hospital. Right now sport and even must be banned otherwise it will be a never ending story

    4. It’s embarrassing to see such comments. Forlan, I don’t know if you have any specific knowledge of what is going on in Italy. France, Spain and Germany will follow soon if they don’t stop everything soon.
Footballers and team staff have families, they are not robot. Everything must be stopped now or we’ll regret it.
In northern Italy, thousands of people are fighting between life and death, stop comparing corona virus to a normal winter flu

    5. Regarding the progress of the virus, I heard many different opinions, from the most expert doctors, virologist and epidemiologists. They disagree each other. So the only thing to do is to wait and see. There isn't the chance to know more. Our opinion is not important in this case, facts must be analyzed.

    6. I am really sorry for all the people who are sick and all of you who suffer because of measures in Italy.

Regarding my comments, I am actually an expert in this field and, although not involved personally in medical care or institutions dealing with covid 19, I believe I can say something on that matter.

For example, 4-5% mortality rate in Italy is due to insufficient capacities for testing, so often only severe patients are diagnosed. In South Korea where there are 7x more tested people per million, the mortality rate is 0,6%.

As this is not general forum, I will not try to discuss it further, and instead will focus on refereeing topics. :)

And I really hope this situation (both real danger and perception) will soon be just history.

    7. and once again, my simpathy for all patients, and all doctors doing there best to help in this serious situation

  3. I'm surprised to see Valeri and Mariani: indication was to not appoint any italian official. Probably, this is possible due to the fact that Valeri and Mariani come from a region of Italy where the diffusion of the virus is still limited. Ekberg is the only 1st group appointed. Good achievement for the swidesh

    1. Good argument about Valeri and Mariani, indeed.
Excellent achievement for Ekberg as well, committee is working on him as the next Swedish Elite referee.

Hi friends I wanna to know your thoughts is this a save or deliberately play ? My thought is SAVE as the ball goes towards the goal even though defender plays the ball deliberately.

    1. Clear save! Offside must be punished. Very difficult situation to assess for AR, given also the post hit before.

    2. Disagree. Deliberate play by defender clearing the ball out of the penalty area. The ball is not going into the goal.

    3. completely disagree with offside here. No way should a deliberative action to kick the ball deemed a "save" just because it is on the goal line.

  5. According to Jug and Zunic are replaced by Sandro Schärer and Fedayi San (although official press kit still has Jug and Zunic stated as Vars).

  6. Can you summarize which European country is using VAR in their domestic league ? Switzerland ?

    1. Definitely not easy for UEFA the management of this game. I can confirm that VAR is used in Switzerland, so maybe this can be an argument for the replacement. At the same time, I wouldn't blame too much Jug if he decided to renounce. Scharer comes from Switzerland, not so far away from Lombardy, so this can be another reason. Slovenian officials don't use VAR domestically.

Some readers will correct me if I'm wrong, however this should be the list of European countries in which VAR is surely used:
Belgium, Croatia, France, Germany, Greece, England, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Czech Republic, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine.

  7. Inter - Getafe has more changes? UEFA list the following officials.

    - Fourth official: Dejan Balažič (SVN)
    - UEFA Referee observer: Alfredo Trentalange (ITA)

    1. Interesting, this would be the first time ever in Europa League with an observer coming from the same nation of home-team. We can clearly understand the reason behind that. Hopefully it is the final appointment this time. And thank again to all officials who accepted this duty.

    2. To be honest I am not surprised with Trentalange in Inter-Getafe and I agree with that appointment, it totaly makes sense. Despite the fact that Valeri and Mariani are not from North Italy I would not be surprised if they will also be replaced (Jug and Zunic perhaps).

  9. Marciniak jedzie na Rangers

  10. Italian VARs in Wolfsburg replaced as well. Now Spanish team in charge to assist Skomina.

    1. Firts time in almost 15 years, how long I am into refereeing, that UEFA made so many changes after the appointments have been published on their web site.

  11. Updatr: Felix Zwayer replaces Karasev in Sevilla.

    1. And one more change: Bertrand Layec will observe Soares Dias instead of Uilenberg.

    2. Sevilla FC - AS Roma

      Felix Zwayer
      Marco Achmüller (AR1)
      Jan Seidel (AR2)
      Marco Fritz (4th)
      Sascha Stegemann (VAR)
      Christian Dingert (AVAR)

      All referees from Germany

  12. Christian Dingert and Marco Fritz have to be swapped:
Marco Fritz is 4th official and Christian Dingert is AVAR.

  13. As Slovenia is closing the border with Italy at this very moment, including the air travel, I cannot see how Vincic and his team could travel to Milano against strict directions of the Slovenian government ...

    1. That could explain why there is no info on Vincic's and Skomina's appointments on Slovenian's Ref Committee web page. They usually publish appointments earlier or at the same time as UEFA. Now is 22:47 still no info on their appointments. Maybe we will see replacment of Skomina and Vincic tomorrow??

    2. You are right, still nothing. As a read in the other post, Getafe aren't travelling to Milano anyway. I think it should apply to referees too, the virus has started to spread in Slovenia also.

All symphaties to our Italian friends.

  14. I want to find out your opinion on this clip:

As a referee it's hard to disagree with this foul, although personally I don't like the way attacker left his leg behind, anticipating contact with a defender.
And the second question, I wonder about YC in this situation (SPA). Attacker run out of the penalty area and I don't know if it is enough for YC, especially second in this case.

    1. I disagree that the attacker was playing for a foul, his movement pattern is normal is playing / defending the ball.

It doesn't matter about first or second cautions, that is not a SPA foul. No LoR, and running away from goal and actually heading towards the corner flag - careless and not more.

I would have liked to see the referee have more courage to take the less expected but technically correct decision in this scene: freekick + no sanction.

  15. Roma just informed that will not travel to Spain, since local authorities did not approve the travel. More info will come directly from UEFA

    1. **UPDATE
Adam Kersey is now doing the game Chris Beath (FIFA) was supposed to be refereeing. Not sure why this was changed.

    2. UPDATE again.
Apparent calf injury for Chris Beath during the week is reason for replacement.

  18. Things are getting very serious in Spain. A minister who attended a massive feminist march last Sunday got infected and cases are exponentially rising. So, I'm afraid that lots of attendees will also have the virus.

LaLiga is suspended for the next 2 weeks, as well as every RFEF competition.

UEFA calls meeting of European Football Stakeholders
Stakeholders invited by UEFA to discuss European football’s response to COVID-19
Discussions will include all domestic and European competitions, including UEFA EURO 2020

  20. Basel-Frankfurt 2nd leg will be played in Frankfurt next week (without spectators).

  21. OT: All sport activities, including all football competitions, professional and amateur, are suspended for at least two weeks in Croatia.

  22. Solid performance by Soares Dias

  23. Very soft penalty whistled by Collum and a few before, possible foul by attacking team. However, penalty has been confirmed.

  24. VAR intervention in Wolfsburg, a very clear penalty for deliberate handball missed by Skomina. Arm not in natural position, ball stopped.

  25. I really dont like UEFAs choice for Turpin's team to wear the blue shirt with Wolves' green, similar colours to the eye.

  26. Turpin with a straight RC to Olympiacos. Correct decision, without foul, attacker would have had an obvious goal scoring opportunity.

    1. After a good advantage, well done :)

    2. Here is the RC:

    3. Excellent advantage and a correct decision the RC for DOGSO.

  27. Correct handball penalty after OFR in Glasgow by Marciniak.

    1. Yep. Ironic that Celtic and Rangers have had VAR decisions go against them, after calls for VAR in Scotland (especially from Steven Gerrard & Rangers)!

  28. The evening of deliberate handballs, rather missed by officials.
Now it is again Skomina turn in Wolfsburg, second penalty for handball given after OFR. However in both situations, given the position where the touch occurred, it wasn't easy for Skomina.
Maybe Marciniak's AR1 had more chances in Glasgow for spotting that penalty...

  29. Last season Skomina got UCL final after 3 games with missed penalties (during 2018-2019 season). Now he missed 2 penalties in 45 minutes. He has huge problems with handballs in the area. A referee like Skomina should have whistled those penalties without OFR.

    1. I don't know if I am the only one but it seems to be that with an introduction of VAR referees are less courage about making crucial decisions such as penalties and red cards waiting for a VAR correction.

  30. So, I think we watched last european matches this season...Unfortunately

    1. Well I would not be so sure.
Apparently UEFA is insisting to continue with Champions League, Europa League and EURO. I really don't know why??? Someone could say it is all about the money, but anyway, I can not believe that money is more important than people health :/

I really hope UEFA will be reasonable and suspend all competitions until this situation with corona cool down.

  31. IMO the best solution would be to cancel EURO, suspend club competition and finish them in June/July (if COVID19 will be annihilated of course)

  32. Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 will be suspended tomorrow and the FFF has suspended all their competitions.

  33. Did Skomina missed a double kick when Wolsburgs' penalty was taken?

  34. I want to thank Dr Emu a very powerful spell caster who help me to bring my husband back to me, few month ago i have a serious problem with my husband, to the extend that he left the house, and he started dating another woman and he stayed with the woman, i tried all i can to bring him back, but all my effort was useless until the day my friend came to my house and i told her every thing that had happened between me and my husband, then she told me of a powerful spell caster who help her when she was in the same problem I then contact Dr Emu and told him every thing and he told me not to worry my self again that my husband will come back to me after he has cast a spell on him, i thought it was a joke, after he had finish casting the spell, he told me that he had just finish casting the spell, to my greatest surprise within 48 hours, my husband really came back begging me to forgive him, if you need his help you can contact him with via email: or add him up on his whatsapp +2347012841542 is willing to help any body that need his help.
