Law5 Blog is close to Ovidiu Hațegan and we want to wish him a speed recovery!

As refereeing blog, we are close to the Romanian after what happened to him.

UEFA referee Ovidiu Hategan, 41, 'suffers a heart attack' just days after he was the fourth official for Wales' win against Austria, as he is 'rushed into surgery to have a stent fitted after complaining of chest pain'.
Our best wishes for a quick recovery, we hope that everything will end soon in a positive way!

    1. Ovidiu Hațegan released a statement through the FRF website after his survery -

"I am fine now, everything is fine, I am still under medical supervision. I would like to thank the medical staff who cared for me and all those who sent me messages and their good thoughts. I need peace at the moment, so I ask that my privacy be respected."

  2. According to various sources, Hategan should have been the referee for Chelsea - Real Madrid next week on 6. Obviously, UEFA changed the officials for this game.

    1. Mostly, Romanian sources about appointments even if confidential, are always reliable, so I would believe that. In case the assignment would have been ab expected one.
Observer appointed for that game on next week in London is Hugh Dallas, we will see whether UEFA will change.

    2. Maybe the final test for the UEL final. Bad luck...
3-6 months Hategan is in recovery. Sure, if he will want to continue, in the most optimistic scenario we could see him again earliest in the Super Cup.

    3. Yes more generally he has been an extremely unlucky person over the years. A long-time Elite referee without the opportunity to officiate a final, we know that he hadn't any fault for all the issues he experienced in past. My feelings are with him.

    4. Indeed, very unlucky! Could have been a final test for the EL final. So sad… I wish him all the best and hopefully he comes back even stronger. He deserves a final after so many years.

Considering that UEFA often makes political choices, is it possible to see Kovacs as a replacement in QF CL?

  3. First of all, all the best for him!

Another question: Is it known how referees receive UEFA appointments? Do they receive an email or are they called, do they have some kind of internal system?

  8. All the best wishes for Ovidiu! I really hope that he will recover soon and that he will continue his career. Let's be optimistic - Christian Eriksen managed to come back after a cardiac arrest, so maybe Ovidiu will be back fo finish his carrer with a final!
