UEFA Under 19 Championship is back after 3 years, due to COVID international break on last two seasons. Here the selected officials for the tournament to be played in Slovakia from 18 June to 1° July 2022.

DeleteThey are from the same country as the referees, like the U17 finals. Personally it’s a very bad idea to only have pairs. It should be singular or trios
ReplyDeleteReferees from GEO,LTU,MLT in U19 finals. The trend of Rosetti with "small" country continues, this would never happened before. Anyway I wish good luck for all selected referees. IMO Nobre is clearly favorite to be in the final but lets see, is a long tournament.
ReplyDeleteSmall countries referees tend to be a lot better. They work twice as hard as they have massive private commitments with own jobs. The treatment for these small countries is still disgraceful however. If a referee from a big country makes a big mistake, they get the chance to come back from it several times. If a referee from a small country makes a big mistake, the career is over. You look at Rade Obrenovic from Slovenia for example, he makes many big mistakes, but because they have committee member, it doesn’t matter but a referee from Faroese Islands can do a less mistake and it’s end of career.
DeleteI think there are certain "small" countries that routinely or focus with produce elite referees with high quality, one of which is Slovenia, it's not that he has Ceferin or anyone up there but in fact, at the age of 31, Obrenovic clearly has an ability to become an elite referee. Don't compare with the different treatment for repeated mistakes referees from "small" countries with referees from "big" countries. You have to be more detailed in comparing, if you compare Slovenia with the Faroe Islands it is clearly different levels, if you want to compare it, try to make it more sense (equal) like to compare Slovenia with fellow Balkans, Bosnia and Croatia in this case we can refer to Peljto or Jovic after SUI-POR how he will get treatment as CRO No. 1 since Bebek no longer a priority. The definition of a "small" country in modern football has now completely changed, we have to look into the details, one of which is how the local competition climate is there, Slovenia is a big countries like England for refereeing but don't mess up with Slovenia is a big countries because Ceferin or the others.

ReplyDeleteWhat a don't like about the policy for these tournaments is that referees of the participating countries will not be invited. Off course, from neutrality and appointment point of view it is logic.
On the other hand. Most of the times the teams from the big socces nations will be present on these youth EUROS. The chance for referees and assistants to get expierence in these tournaments and big matches is reduced a lot.
I know it is a small tournament with only 8 teams and not a lot of matches, but still it feels outdated. Shouldn't it be the best upcoming referees no matter from which countrie like at the EUROS?
I like this approach from Rosetti. Referees from "big countries" have lots of opportunities to develop and get noticed in their own country. For referees from "smaller football countries", these tournaments are much more valuable in terms of experience and they are often the only chance to show that they have the potential to be considered for promotions.
DeleteOT: Dámaso Arcediano Monescillo (1984) has been appointed by CTA-RFEF for LaLiga promotion play-off final 2nd leg. 2 promotion spots are at stake between him and the other 5 referees appointed for the play-off games: Luis Mario Milla Alvendiz (1982), Javier Iglesias Villanueva (1983), Jon Ander González Esteban (1985), Juan Luis Pulido Santana (1983) & Francisco José Hernández Maeso (1988)
ReplyDeleteIn terms of demotion, Melero López, Cordero Vega and Jaime Latre should be the ones in danger, if nothing unexpected happens only one of them will 'survive'
Melero showed in last 2-3 years his inconsistency his demotion should have happened maybe years earlier.
DeleteAs for the other two if it were up to me,I would chose Cordero to stay and demote Jaime.
IMO Cordero had much more difficult games ,showed more consistency and can be given one more year while Jaime was not at Primera level this year.
Yeah, poor guy Melero is always in my demotion predictions :D, but he's lucky that there are always either 2 referees quitting due to age or there's one who has an even worse season, like Medié Jiménez last year.
DeleteWith both Mateu & Del Cerro staying there are no retirements expected this year so there's 2 demotion spots.
Yep I liked him alot 5-6 yrs ago,but then he changed his style alot,became much stricter and lenient during these 3-4 years and thats mostly why we see his matches get out of hand...
DeleteCause he has certain style and that style cant go on for whooe 90 minutes,something like ref in Kazahstan-Slovakia match....
Best example was Sociedad vs Valencia.
Are this new strategies from Rosseti? As far as I know this is maybe the first time in UEFA national competitions all selected officials are "into the unknown" and without VAR.. which is very bold decision considering the u20 WC using VAR and actually UEFA is very capable of implementing VAR in this tournament. Unexperienced referee+no VAR, let see
