ReplyDeleteSince 2018 (Ekberg), only referees from the Big 5 countries have refereed the Youth League final. That's really disappointing: this tournament isn't just a development tournament for youth players, the same applies to referees - the final should be given to someone who could really use this for their development (since their national competition offers them too little opportunities), not someone who officiates teams like Bayern, Liverpool and PSG every other week

His matches are quite like younger Maresca,plenty bookings and hot teams,but almost every his decision is by the book .
I say ,his style reminds me of younger Maresca or in Portugal we have 2 refs that are similar to him,Oliveira and Godinho.

ReplyDeleteUnthinkable decision at yesterday Alexey Kulbakov's performace at PAOK-AEK ATHENS for the Greece play-offs. In 5th minute of the match the player of the PAOK makes a mistake and gives the ball back to his GK without seeing that the striker of AEK haw followed the phase. But the Belarusian referee whistled something which not the same has understood. Even now whole Greece is wondering what has given in that phase. In addition, that whistle appears intention because he whistled before AEK's player score, with purpose neither VAR (Krogh from Denmark) can interfere to correct that monstrous decision.
However, to be fair he managed very well the whole match, but his decision in the beginning of the match marked his appearance.
It would be interesting to know the exact moment of the whistle, not clear in this video. If he whistled moments before and players continued the action it can be more understandable for some aspects, but still a mistake because phantom foul whistled. If the whistle occurred after the goal, then VAR could have intervened.
DeleteIt is assumed that he whistled before AEK's player score. But nobody (not the same) knows what has whistled. The video includes all the available replays and we don't have other replays from other aspects. But if you notice carefully until the camera lose the referee from the plan he haven't whistled something yet (a foul maybe) and he is running to catch up the phase. Therefore given that we don't have any offside, because the ball returns from PAOK's playerthe only epxlanation is that he had given defensive foul at Gacinovic (AEK's player) in the middle and he didn't olay well the advantage. But the match restarts with the possession at PAOK with a free kick!!!!
DeleteAnyway, the media in Greece today have publicized that after the end of the match AEK's player asked from the referee the cause of the cancellation and he characteristically moved his shoulders not knowing what to reply, staying silence!

I note Frappart will lead the team in the Finalissima on Thursday. Interesting to see a very different approach to in the men's competition were a much less experienced name was appointed. I'm concerned about the lack of development in women's officials in a way, where it seems only one name is trusted for everything. After Steinhaus-Webb's retirement it is clear that Frappart is the no.1, but it would be nice to have a more trusted pool to choose from, it's not like there aren't options! Another deserved accolade for Frappart, however

And I have always considered Staubli, after Frappart, the second best referee in Europe.

DeleteThe situation should be the following: according to last rumors, it seems as Rocchi has appreciated the officiating by Massa and I must agree, a very good performance at least until last minutes of second half, including the penalty call (possible that this was suggested by either AR1 or FO, you can see the delay in whistling by Massa). Then, coming into your question, we must start from the fact that Massa didn't hear about any racist chant, so for this reason he thought that the celebration of Lukaku was against the home-fans. Indeed the Inter player made the gesture and said "shut up". This, according to book, is identified as provoking celebration, so correct yellow card. There isn't a strict application of this rule in serie A and I must say that if we start from assumption that the racist chants were not heard by referee, the technical decision is just a correct one...

IMO very good performance by Martínez Munuera in the Copa del Rey semifinal 2nd leg Clásico today, including a correct PK for Real Madrid. Not faultless, maybe a couple of missed de iure bookings, but probably one of the best performances in recent Clásicos, considering the huge tension.

In General I agree with your opinion. But there is one thing totally annoing me about him. He needs so much time for couple of Things (don't know whether that was the case yesterday because i could not see the game). For example he sometimes blows the whistle and then about ten seconds later realizes that he needs to Take his Spray or has to communicate with some Players which then also Takes a relatively Long Time itself. Don't know whether you also recognized that but this is often my Feeling when i am watching His games

What a poor performance by Sanchez Martinez in Barca-Atletico. I had some expectations given his European appointments, including a recent UEL QF. Did Mourinho have nothing to complain about against Feyenoord? I am very dissapointed after this game today.

All correct after VAR interventions, first incident clear penalty but Siebert couldn't see the foul properly (best replay 00:40), maybe he could have struggled, trying to detect more. Rather passive appearance, but a miss that can happen.

I agree that his appointment was unexpected given the teams implied, but, meh... from 20' when I started watching the game to ~70' was at least ok performance. After that, he completely lost it, the final quarter of the match was a disaster.

And possibly orsato. Also, unless I'm making a horrible mistake Marciniak has never come to Greece to officiate a game between Greek teams!

He has previously refereed the Supercup twice (in both cases Ajax - PSV as well) and both times it was nothing short of a disaster, so an interesting choice to appoint him to his first cup final with the same two teams. However, you can't give Makkelie every cup final (he has been quite controversial as well recently, especially regarding Ajax) and Gözübüyük was appointed for the league clash between the two sides, so it was expected to be Higler
Makkelie controversial regarding Ajax? It’s not his fault they are so so bad… His Classico in March was a high level piece of refereeing. The best and most entertaining Classico in years. Decisions and management fully in line with the UEFA 2023 approach.

Controversial doesn’t mean he was bad. However, of the 4 games with Ajax this season, he missed a crystal clear RC against Utrecht, had a very controversial no-penalty decision in the cup game against Twente, had a controversial no SYC in the Classic (which was correct, but still controversial) and probably two missed RC (one for both teams), and against PSV he gave a wrong penalty (revoked after OFR), he really hasn’t been good in games with Ajax, nothing to do with Ajax’s form (the outcome in any of those games probably wouldn’t have changed)
DeleteThe fouls in the Classico are no RC’s according to UEFA RAP 2023. That’s why VAR did not intervene. And the other incidents: you just literally copy-pasted the rabble-rousing of the Dutch Ajax-minded press (Telegraaf), and they need a LOTG course.

It seems as Massa was attacked by fans after the game he had in Greece. When enough is enough, I invite FIFA and UEFA to take immediate action against Greek federation and their situation of refereeing.

Since we got many fake news about that in past, I would be still not 100% sure, let's wait. Other sources reported that he didn't want to retire!
DeleteIt is now more or less official, the sources are pretty solid. Basically, it is a leak from CTA. This also includes Del Cerro Grande, BTW. Mateu Lahoz didn't want to retire, but Medina Cantalejo wants him to leave. According to the news, both of them have been invited to carry on as VAR referees, but Mateu has rejected that offer.
DeleteIs it possible for Mateu to continue in other FA like Clattenburg or Mazic? And if that happened, is it also possible for Mateu to continue in UEFA like Faghani in AFC, considered that Mateu is still at good performance? If Mateu retired I think it was huge loss for UEFA consider at the moment UEFA is struggle to find another very trusted referee or the pool of very trusted referee was very light.

DeleteAlso, I understand the point of Medina Cantalejo, asking him to retire, with Gil Manzano and Sanchez Martinez to become new nr.1 and 2, and a chance for Hernandez Hernandez to get Elite. This should be indeed related to the next update of UEFA categories.
